Morning Glory Pool is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Upper Geyser Basin despite being less beautiful than it once was, since large amounts of rocks and trash have been thrown into the pool by thoughtless visitors, significantly reducing the water temperature. The pool used to be filled by rich blue water, with a narrow ring of orange-yellow bacteria only around the edge; now the water is more greenish and the algae band is much wider. The pool is 20 feet in diameter, 23 feet deep, round and symmetric, with a conical vent at the center, and may be viewed from a raised boardwalk that extends along nearly half its circumference. The spring drains westwards into the Firehole River, 100 feet away. It was named in 1883 for its resemblance in color and shape to the morning glory flower.

I thought this is another mural from communist times when I took this shot. But the painting "Wall of Glory" was created in 2017 on the wall of this pump factory and shows Decebal, the last Dacian king before the Romans invaded his kingdom. A clear nod to independency.

Convolvulaceae, known commonly as the bindweed or morning glory family, is a family of about 60 genera and more than 1,650 species of mostly herbaceous vines, but also trees, shrubs and herbs, and also including the sweet potato and a few other food tubers.

Morning glory was first known in China for its medicinal uses, due to the laxative properties of its seeds.

Most morning glory flowers unravel into full bloom in the early morning. The flowers usually start to fade a few hours before the "petals" start showing visible curling.

They prefer full solar exposure throughout the day, and mesic soils.

Some morning glories, such as Ipomoea muricata, are night-blooming flowers.

Morning Glories grow wild in these parts. I always carry my phone on my morning walks and take random photo along the way. This week I'm sharing some phone photos, even though I consider them inferior to shots taken with my Canon camera.

A little wild Morning Glory with a firm grip on the beginnings of fall. Today is the art show that my camera club is participating in. This is a regular art show and the club will have a booth in it. We donate 15% of our proceeds to local school's art programs, so here's hoping for some good sales!

Ipomoea is a genus of tenacious, flowering vines, shrubs, and small trees with over 600 species, and includes such commonly known plants as Morning Glory, Sweet Potato, and Moonflower. Species in this genus feature blooms of pink, lavender and purple or blue that open each morning and fade at night. They tolerate a wide range of average to poor soil and sunny to partial shade conditions. Though they are not perennial and grow from seed, they are very successful at spreading quickly, returning annually and can be difficult to control if allowed to get out of hand. The genus name comes from two Greek words: ips meaning "worm" and homoios meaning "resembling", in reference to the sprawling underground roots of plants in this genus or to the worm-like twining plant habit.

I had such high hopes for my Morning Glory plants this year. They are an annual here in Wisconsin and it had been years since I'd planted some. So I planted a mixture of seeds from a pack and they all sprouted and grew profusely, but hardly any blooms...

My soil is very fertile and this is often the cause of few blooms on Morning Glories. They are a plant that grows and blooms better in poor soil!

The flower above is my 6th flower of the season and I thought I should get a shot of it in case it is our last bloom!

Enjoy...

once you have them in your garden... you ALWAYS have them!!

The Torre Glòries a.k.a. Agbar is a high-rise building designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. It is located in the Poblenou neighbourhood of Barcelona. According to its architect, the tower is intended to recall the shape of a geyser rising into the air. It was inspired by Montserrat, a mountain near Barcelona. In an interview, Nouvel described the tower as having a phallic character. It measures 144 m.

A hot spring in the Upper Geyser Basin at Yellowstone National Park. The distinct color of the pool is due to bacteria which inhabit the water. On a few occasions, Morning Glory Pool has erupted as a geyser, usually following an earthquake or other nearby seismic activity. Several entryways have been clogged due to objects being thrown in by tourists, reducing the hot water supply, and in turn altering the overall appearance of the pool. Several attempts by park officials to artificially induce eruptions to clear the pool of debris and clear blocked entryways have been met with mixed results. Due to the damage caused by ignorance and vandalism, it has been suggested that Morning Glory is becoming a "Faded Glory".

This was our first trip with digital cameras, almost 10 years ago. I am slowly adding photos to this album as time allows.

A bush morning glory playing host to a little skipper butterfly.

Skippers are a group of butterflies placed in the family Hesperiidae within the order Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies). They were previously placed in a separate superfamily, Hesperioidea; however, the most recent taxonomy places the family in the superfamily Papilionoidea, the butterflies. They are named for their quick, darting flight habits. Most have their antenna tips modified into narrow, hook-like projections. Moreover, skippers mostly have an absence of wing-coupling structure available in most moths. More than 3500 species of skippers are recognized, and they occur worldwide, but with the greatest diversity in the Neotropical regions of Central and South America.

I had a fun afternoon yesterday on the beach with tall Paul, but as I was driving back home I spotted this late burst of sunlight at Little West . It wa great watching the suns rays light up the Devon coastline. Glory days is by Pulp. It's a lovely sunny day today and the washing is on , so a day for kestrels again perhaps.
