For Looking Close…on Friday, a heart shaped trinket box holding semi-precious gems from the North Carolina gem area.
One gem has been wrapped in silver wire to wear as a pendant.
Turkish Diaspore. What makes this stone special is that it changes color according to the light spectrum.

In different light sources, the Turkish Diaspore can also exhibit khaki greens, sage greens, cognac pinks, pinkish champagnes, canary yellows, rich champagnes and reds. During a candlelit dinner, the same gem reveals shades from pink to raspberry.

On a recent trip to the South Island we visited Gemstone Beach. A rough coast line shaped by winds from the Arctic. Gemstone Beach is known for its constant state of change from sand to stones with the storms and tides. Semi-precious gems such as garnet, jasper, quartz and nephrite can often be found on the beach. The erosion of the cliffs is very apparent. I walked down the beach to find some interesting compositions. The weather combined with the tide going out made great conditions for some long exposure images. I like this simple layered composition. We spend hours there, just exploring and looking for gem stones.

Pam's tennis bracelet. Originally gifted as a collar on a new puppy with it taking 2 hours before she determined there were two gifts.

Looking Close... on Friday: Gemstones
There were some strange looks, but I had a lot of fun playing with this broken amethyst necklace at the beach.
Happy "Looking close... on Friday!" with "gemstones".
... and thanks a lot for your views, faves and comments! :-)
Image from our most recent visit around New Years to the rugged and remote location of Gemstone Beach, New Zealand. It was a bit of a rough day so the beach somewhat deserted and waves from the wild Southern Ocean hammering the beachfront. I found this little stream interesting, in particular the large washed up kelps and shapes created by the driftwood. A great place to explore.

The Geisel Library is the main library building of the University of California San Diego Library. It is named in honor of Audrey and Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. The building's distinctive Brutalist architecture has resulted in its being featured in the UC San Diego logo and becoming the most recognizable building on campus.
The library was designed by William Pereira and opened in 1970 as the Central Library.
