This and the following tire photos is all that is left of the old Spur gas station and tire shop on U.S. 441.
Ruins of a gas station formerly owned by a man named Ed Young. In the late 1920's during prohibition he discovered he could make more money selling moonshine than gas, so he sold a lot of moonshine.
if you think it looks familiar it should, this also appears in my book, Abandoned Texas: Under A Lone Star Moon on pages 54 & 55.
Night, near full moon, 180 second exposure, handheld light producing device set to pink.

I have to wonder what the local gas company thinks of these stenciled decorations on their meters. Interesting that they are all different. Wonder who painted them.

Located at Silverhill near Teversal, ‘Testing for Gas’ is a bronze statue of a kneeling miner holding a Davy lamp. The sculpture was created by artist Antony Dufort as "A tribute to the Miners of the Nottinghamshire coalfields", commemorating coal mining at the 85 Nottinghamshire collieries.
A derelict gas station. Is it post-apoc? Perhaps. I'm not really sure. Just an experiment in terrain and building construction.
This was my unfortunately late entry to the landscape contest, which closed about 3 hours ago. I totally forgot about time zones, so I thought it ended sometime tonight...ahh well, at least it spawned this MOC :)
Enjoy!
EDIT: Sorry for the terrible photoshop, it was hastily done. I'll try again later.
This quirky collection of gas cans and drums just caught my fancy. Image size 11 1/2" x 14 1/2" on 300 lb. Arches Cold Pressed paper and W&N Artist Quality colours. Image credit to Lillian Bell of Paint My Photo (PMP)
Apparently there were three of these and the other two were demolished last year. This one was spared as it had ravens nesting on it. A local chap who ran a garage nearby told me that when demand for gas was high it could empty from full in two hours which I find quite mind boggling.
The ravens have moved on now and this one is also scheduled for demolition.

Gas Works Park contains remnants of the sole remaining coal gasification plant in the United States. The plant operated from 1906 to 1956 and was bought by the city of Seattle for park purposes in 1962.
Part of the ring on my gas cooker. We've had it for about 20 years now: it does get cleaned occasionally, but a lot of that muck is welded on pretty thoroughly! I did try an alternate shot for Macro Monday with more moody lighting- it's also in my photostream: let me know which you prefer.

Macro Mondays and the theme of "Triangle".
For this theme I figured that a Toblerone would be a popular choice and after a bit of further consideration I opted for the end of our gas cover key which does have a triangular shaped connector.
I decided to try a little light painting with my Maglite torch and this proved to be tricky as at first I was trying to draw an outline around the key but in the end I decided to paint streaks in the background.
I used flash to light the key itself and after loading the key image and 5 streak images into photoshop I stacked them and used the lighten blending mode. Then I added a hue/sat adjustment layer to each streak layer and changed the colour of the streaks.
Anyone need a former gas station in St. Augustine? Nikkormat FTn, Adox KB14 (expired April 1964, shot at EI 6), Rodinal 1:50.
Montana Rail Link's Gas Local heads east underneath the classic Northern Pacific Cantilever signal bridge in Plains, Montana, on MRL's 4th Subdivision. Unfortunately, the days of anything but SD70ACe's leading this train are probably gone. Montana Rail Link SD40-2XR (rebuilt SD40) leading this train is former Burlington Northern 6301.
