I have never folded tomoko fuse's navel sheel before although I have always and forever admired hilli's beautiful renditions.
last weekend I happened to catch a workshop for this model by christiane from switzerland. and I was even luckier: I was given exactly the one sheet of paper that I had watched christiane paint earlier and that I had deemed the most gorgeous of her beautifully painted papers. :-DD
all of the shells in this picture are from a thick paper that christiane painted. the paper caught the humidity of the air and was very interesting to fold. in the end it was more like moulding than folding (when we got to the thick parts).
my shell is the blue one on the left. the others were folded by lisbeth, alexander, stefan, arno, christiane et al.
the model is quite a delight and I expect to fold it more often.
sara adams did an instructional video for this model, too.
Paper: 7.5 cm
Modules: 10
Model: Tomoko Fuse
Book: Unit Origami Essence p. 92-5 (Variant D)
This is the paper from Maria Sinayskaya's book. There's 40 sheets of each pattern, therefore a 10-piece-icosahedron is an ideal usage for the 10 left over sheets after (or before) folding a 30-unit-origami :-)
So one more for my collections of those icosahedra.
Paper: 20 cm

Book: Spirals: Origami Art Design p. 113
This is folded the same way as Fuse's Naval Shell, but not the distances are equal but the angles (I used a set square and scored all folding lines). Got very fiddly in the centre, segments are very small there.
Western Xixia tombs - Inner Mongolia - China
The most famous and most visited landmark of the Yinchuan Region by far is the Xixia Wanling - or translated the Tangut Royal Tombs. Although the words Xixia Wanling mainly refer to the No.1
West Xixia Imperial Tombs, Yinchuan, Inner Mongolia, China
West Xixia Kingdom (1038-1227) stands among the once powerful kingdoms, with its capital in Yinchuan shaded by Mt. Helan imperial forests. Its Imperial Tombs reflect the past glories culturally and militarily.

Occupying an area of some 50 km2 , the Western Xia tombs at the foot of the Helan Mountains in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of northwestern China includes nine imperial mausoleums and 250 tombs of imperial relatives and officials. This burial complex lies some 40 km westward from capital city of the Western Xia, the Xingqing fu or Xingqing, what is modern-day Yinchuan, capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
Some 17,000 m2 have so far been excavated, and efforts are underway to secure and preserve the remains of this poorly understood era.
The Western Xia dynasty (also known as Tangut Empire), existed between 1038 and 1227, when it was conquered by the Mongols under Genghis Khan. The empire was founded by the Tangut ethnic group, about which little is currently known. Of current excavations, only the No.3 mausoleum has been adequately excavated and researched. This mausoleum is attributed to Western Xia's first emperor Jingzong, born Li Yuanhao, (1003-1048), has been determined as a pavilion-tower construction fusing both traditional mausoleum and temple styles with Buddhist characteristics.

For most Coil Folds, you have to bother with either an straight edge or inkscape or the like. These two work easily without: 6|30|S is folded form a twin equilateral triangle with angle bisectors and creases parallel to the edges, 8|45|S I folded from a square with some parts cutted of (again: angle bisectors will do).
Curbside gelato break at the Piazza Navona. I saw the red leash and red zipper lining close by so tried my best to line them up.

In my local town there is an area which is going under redevelopment. The factory unit has been boarded up for a good couple of years but lately it has been opened to the elements. It's being knocked down soon so i thought i'd go and play with a derelict environment. As it's one of my fav HDR style. This what made me fall in love with HDR. very much the style of HDR master Jens Hartmann.
The treatment of this HDR is more powerful then i usual do. But i do believe it suits images with a derelict narrative. I had a heads on this style of processing by flickr pal
He stated if i blended two images from the hdr using exposure blending in photomatix and then tonemapped the final process, then i could create this look. after i played around with it i think i good it. cheers dude. :-)
