Permission visit to the 237m long Inchindown tanks hidden in the hill from the Nazis for WW2. They was used to store fuel safe from the German bombers and was last used to fuel some of the ships for the Falklands war in 1982. Since then they have been left empty and it now holds the record for the longest echo in the world.
It was quiet an experience to hear the echo inside the tank. The mark on the ceiling running the length of the tank is where they filled the 12m high tank to.
This was a permission visit and can easily be obtained by the group looking after them.
BSA's adventure began in 1861, in England, the company being founded by fourteen gunsmiths of the Birmingham Small Arms Trade Association, who had supplied arms to the British government during the Crimean War. As the gun trade declined, they began to manufacture bicycles in 1880. The first motorcycle was produced in 1903 and the first automobile prototype saw the light in 1907.
The BSA automobile was, for sure, a success, if we take into consideration the fact that in 1908 there were already 150 vehicles on the streets. In 1920, the company bought some assets of the Aircraft Manufacturing Company and a year later returned to the love for cars, being proud of its four-cylinders models.
During the World War I and II, the company produced a lot of rifles, shells and motorcycles for the troops and post-war, BSA expanded the range of goods it manufactured. From 1937, it supplied 126,000 M20 motorcycles to the armed forces. In 1951, the BSA Group bought Triumph Motorcycles, increasing their fame and production and in 1954 entered a team of riders in the 200 mile Daytona beach race where the bikes took first, second, third, fourth, and fifth places. Ten years later, BSA gained fame in motocross, thanks to Jeff Smith and his B40.

About :

“SKETCH III:
One of primary targets for Lunar Orbiter photo craft will be site where Surveyor I soft-landed on the moon to return more than 11,000 pictures from the lunar surface. Surveyor’s flat-faced solar panel and high-gain antenna have been positioned to the largest possible shadow to aid in catching Lunar Orbiter’s photographic eye. Photographs taken by Lunar Orbiter as low as 28 miles will permit precise study of terrain surrounding Surveyor site, as well as eight other proposed manned landing sites lying along lunar equator.

Technique for the fuel tanks.
The undercarriage needed two cylindrical fuel tanks with a radius of more than 2 bricks but no more than 3 bricks.
No round, curved, sloped or other modified pieces I'm aware of would make this possible so this became my solution.

Not my normal photography scene today but I was out locally and came across this old Fuel Depot which was ran by Certus. Located on Tramway Road in Banbury, it is due for demolition in just a few days of taking these photos. A Council notice is present saying demolition to start no later than 4th August 2025

"The Interplanetary Transport System (ITS), formerly known as the Mars Colonial Transporter (MCT), is SpaceX's privately funded development project to design and build a system of spaceflight technology and remote human settlements on Mars, including reusable launch vehicles and spacecraft; Earth infrastructure for rapid launch and relaunch; low Earth orbit, zero-gravity propellant transfer technology; and extraterrestrial technology to enable human colonization of Mars. The technology is also envisioned to eventually support exploration missions to other locations in the Solar System including the moons of Jupiter and Saturn." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interplanetary_Transport_System

I've been spending time researching the Spokane, Portland & Seattle railway lately, but I haven't decided what to build yet. So instead a GN SD7 came out. Dark green and orange look pretty good together. This one should be a stud or two longer and the fueltank needs to be fixed, but you get the idea. Any votes for SP&S equipment? I'm leaning towards an Alco C636 or maybe their amazing Challengers.

New Haven Railroad ALCO HH660 class DEY-1b switcher # 0923 and an ALCO RS-1 DERS-1b road Switcher # 0664 are seen in the yard locomotive service area, Boston, July 29, 1966. This old high hood ALCO switcher was among the oldest switchers operated by the New Haven Railroad. The HH660 still utilized plain bearings in its trucks. It appears that the radiator core has been removed, so this may be a dead line or a repair track. Notice the sanding tower and fuel tank seen in the background. This photo came from my Houser Collection photos.
