Meeting people is one of the great joys of overlanding. These folks in Aktobe were using the games cafe we raided to get our blog updated - they couldn't have been more friendly, interested, or helpful.
Okay, it's not a National Geographic shot but it's only the second one of these I've ever seen and the first where I had at least a cellphone camera with me. He was maybe 18 inches long and was calmly poking his head in one hole after another and didn't seem too concerned by me. I left him alone in case I misremembered that Friend of Jack poem. 8)

I met Shirley the first year I went away to school, when we were teen-agers in Grade eleven. Our faces have changed -- but the same "girls" look out of our older faces.

IN MEMORY of my Lifelong Best Friend who crossed over the dunne and entered eternity last night.. A true friend is someone who knows everything about you, and still likes you. FRED was such a person in my life. We met as teenagers about 60 years ago and though sometimes seperated by many miles, we were never to far away to help each other. I will never forget, but now must forever miss his counsel, assistance and friendshipship. Never more than a phone call away, the phone will now be sadly silent.
I ask that you, my flickr friends, keep FRED and his wonderful family in your prayers tonight.
I will be enjoying your posts as usual but will not be commenting for a while as my family and I adjust to our new life. Thanks for understanding.

My best friend Jill is moving to NC this month, so we will be apart again! :( It has been nice having her live so close to me the last two years. Fortunately, NC is very driveable and I have lots of friends there to visit!
Visiting me, at last, from Romania
Never too old to have fun ! we where not yet 70 but just a few month before it (she is born a week before me) and we have been friends from age of 16 and it remained even when I had to go away from Romania, and when she could not write me, and so on, we found each other every time as if we have never been far from the other.
