The cosmetic restoration of VIA 6309 (made possible by a successful fundraising campaign) is now finished and it is seen coupled to some AMT equipment on a sunny morning. Interestingly enough, sister unit VIA 6302 was leased to the AMT in 1999 and would have been coupled to the same type of car as seen here. Soon VIA 6309 will enter the Angus Pavilion as part of the permanent collection.

14 layer focus stack taken with 60mm M.Zuiko macro with Raynox DCR-250 conversion lens. Focus shifting was done manually because camera based focus bracketing would not work with the Raynox lens. If you look closely you can see bits of the red pencil that was recently sharpened in the same sharpener. Not great "art," but an interesting challenge.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. A freshly lit cigarette and the guy stepping into the harsh sunlight from out of the shadow - I couldn't resist with such gorgeous light. Enjoy!

"And it has nothing to do with frogs. Frog fruit was originally called 'FOG' fruit. Apparently, in the Middle Ages, farmers would call low growing plants that took over their freshly hayed field “fog fruit.” Over time the name transitioned from 'fog' to 'frog.'” txmg.org/hendersonmg/publicity/have-you-heard-of-texas-fr...

Driver: Bobby Unser

Another Joe Huffaker creation with "liquid" suspension, similar to the MG Liquid Suspension Specials he built in the previous years, this 1966 versions better known for innovational the rear of the machine.

The Gordon Van-Liew-owned Vita-Fresh Orange Juice Special was one of three cars in the 1966 field equipped with a turbo-charger. These cars marked the first time since 1952 that a turbo-charger appeared in the field, and that turbo boost was used on a Offenhauser engine in the 500.

The addition of a turbocharger gave the tried-and-true Offenhauser four-cylinder the advancement needed to compete against the newly dominant Ford quad-cam V8's. This ushered in the turbocharging era at Indianapolis, which vastly increased the horsepower in Indy cars over the next few years.

Bobby Unser not only experimented with the turbocharging for the 1966 Indy 500, but also practiced with a supercharged engine. The team decided the turbocharged engine was the better option, and after qualifying in the 28th starting spot, Unser drove the car to an eight-place finish.

I'm alone at the park most weekend mornings, but, in a good way, I felt particularly alone on Boxing Day last year. It's a very special privilege to have such a wonderfully maintained resource feel as though it's just for me.
