Michel Pastoureau (born 17 June 1947) is a French professor of medieval history and an expert in Western symbology.
Biography
Pastoureau was born in Paris on 17 June 1947. He studied at the École Nationale des Chartes, a college for prospective archivists and librarians. After writing his 1972 thesis about heraldic bestiaries in the Middle Ages, he worked in the coins, medals and antiquities department of the Bibliothèque nationale de France until 1982.
Since 1983 he has held the Chair of History of Western Symbolism (Chaire d'histoire de la symbolique occidentale) and is a director of studies at the Sorbonne's École pratique des hautes études. He is an academician of the Académie internationale d'héraldique (International Academy of Heraldry) and honorary president of the Société française d'héraldique et de sigillographie (French Heraldry and Sphragistic Society). When he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Lausanne in 1996, he was described as an eminent scholar who has made a radical contribution to several disciplines.
Professor Pastoureau has published widely, including work on the history of colours, animals, symbols, and the knights of the Round Table. He has also written on emblems and heraldry, as well as sigillography and numismatics.

My ONLINE SOURCE FOR MONTRÉAL BUILDING ERECTION YEARS, the Rôle d'évaluation foncière, does not list an erection year for this particular building, but it tells that all the surrounding buildings are from the mid-1940s. I feel in my heart that this one is from the 1940s also. Is the lamppost from the 1940s?

The French procureur (a sort of French attorney general) has released statistics about the November rioters. Typical profile : under 18 (63%), from Paris,(82%), French citizen(87%) with no criminal record (50%).
Half of all the minors involved were school drop-outs. The attorney general says that rioters were not acting on political or religious motives, but mostly for the fun of it, and were influenced by the "virtual influence of shock images shown on TV". (Libération 12 janvier)

Found a bunch of 1980s vintage French Asterix comics! My favorite was always Idefix, the little dog.
The French version of a notice explaining a flower garden in the exterior of Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte, Seine et Marne district, just east of Paris.
Interviewer: But coming back to the music, what sets these personalities apart? You are generally said to have given back
a youthful boost to beautiful French singing and French diction. And besides, you have a musical personality also very italian
Alagna: That's right. And often you notice that when I sing in Italian, my voice is different, clearer.
It is the language that wants this : the voice is placed higher while French is more guttural. It is thanks to the presence of
two languages in my musical universe that I was able to bring my own diction in French. An example : the rolled "r" (Italian style)
is obsolete in French: it was the way Maurice Chevalier was singing. Today, it's "cheesy", precious, too sweet.
(the interviewer specifies that, to illustrate his point, Roberto Alagna sings: "Salut, demeure chaste et pure" while rolling the "r").
As for the contemporary French "r", it is a bit harsh. It's not pretty either (ditto, he sings pressing the tight side of the French "r").
That's why I made a mix of both, Italian and French. The secret is not to say exactly the "r": it is soft without being rolled
but we hear it anyway.
