*[We had such a good time at this new Hollywood Studio's exhibit back in Dec/2019 that we came back for the grand opening week of a new 2nd exhibit that they just completed. Unfortunately, many of the exhibits were shut down (including this new one) because it was too cold, the machinery does not operate properly if the outside temp is below 40 degrees, and we were at about 35 degrees! LOL For Florida that is very low! So, I just took all the new exterior shots.
They are pretty cool. Hope you like them. Thank you for looking]

prior (to above) on December 5th, 2019. Since we were in Orlando
for a company holiday-party we checked it out. As expected, it was jammed in the daytime with a 90+ minute wait for the ride. We went back in the evening (with a 35 minute wait) and it was very cool! With everything all lit-up at night it was fantastic and we truly felt
as if we were on the Galaxy's Edge! A must for the Star Wars fan!]

Many books on "How to" photography techniques show people the techniques in-camera or digital darkroom skills such as lighting, exposure control, shutter speed etc. These are how to but not about what to shoot.
But first things first, what to shoot? What kinds of subjects shall we shoot? Most of the time the subject chosen decides whether your shot is successful or not. No matter the light, no matter the techniques used.
Do you just shoot while you are on vacation? Because you find only foreign places interesting?
Or you shoot only spectacular landscapes in the book "50 places you must see before you die"?
Or do you just shoot the scenes you see in the postcards of those landmarks?
So you won't shoot in your hometown or any places without international fame?
Some photographers even move and reside in the scenic place so that they can have easy access to it!
Do you shoot subjects only that you think they will interest the viewers?
Or do you shoot only in the golden hours i.e. 1 hour before/after sunrise and sunset? And then you let the camera sitting idle the other times including bad weather?
Do you shoot only natural scenes and no man-made subjects?
Do you shoot interesting subjects only (colourful and rare) but not mono and boring mundane objects?
Do you shoot only beautiful faces but not characters with great personality?
Do you shoot only portraits of people with permission but not candid of strangers?
Give me a pointer please! On what to shoot!
What am I shooting now? I don't know!

The Oostvaardersplassen is a nature reserve in the Netherlands. Despite its young age, it is in a polder which was only created in 1968, it already has international importance as a European wetland. The Oostvaardersplassen can be divided into two areas: wet and dry. Before the establishment of the reserve, the dry area was a nursery for willow trees, and in the first year hundreds of seedlings could be found on each square metre. This led to concern that a dense woodland would develop, significantly reducing the value of the habitat for water birds. To avoid this, the park's managers brought in a number of large herbivores to keep the area more open, including Konik horses, Red deer and Heck cattle. These large grazing animals are kept out in the open all year round without supplemental feeding, and are allowed to behave as wild animals without, for example, castrating males. The ecosystem developing under their influence is thought to resemble those that would have existed on European river banks and deltas before human disturbance. Twelve hundred of the estimated thirty-six hundred cattle, horses, and deer have perished from today's winter starvation. Scientists and managers have deemed the deaths normal. People are not very happy that the government is letting the animals die. They see the Oostvaardersplassen as more of a zoo than a wild space. Well, I think the managers are doing the right thing to maintain a healthy population within the park’s carrying capacity.

It is hard to survive the winter. All animals are kept without supplemental winter feeding. Many Red deer and Konik horses already crossed the frozen water in search for food. Some horses were stucked due to their weight did crush the too thin ice. These konik horses where consuming the fibres of tree trunks, because food is very hard to find, although it is not there daily nutrition. Especially when there is deep snow, lack of food causes starvation among the weak and the strongest will survive . So the survival of the fittest keeps the herds strong and healthy. Also Foxes, which are quite common in this reserve, profit from carcasses of deer, cows and birds in winter. Maybe in future a pack of Wolves could do a great job as natural predators in this part of Holland.

Staatsbosbeheer verwacht dat door de strenge winter dit jaar 30 procent van de edelherten, heckrunderen en konikpaarden in het natuurgebied de Oostvaardersplassen dood gaan. Het gaat om ongeveer 1200 dieren. Op zich is 30 procent niet meer dan in voorgaande jaren", aldus Staatsbosbeheer. ,,Maar de kuddes zijn door de zachte omstandigheden van de afgelopen jaren flink gegroeid. In absolute cijfers is het aantal dieren dat dood gaat daarom wel hoger dan normaal." Voor de winter liepen er in het natuurgebied ongeveer 570 heckrunderen, 1140 konikpaarden en 2320 edelherten. In de winter is de sterfte, vooral onder jonge dieren, groot. In de Oostvaardersplassen worden ernstig verzwakte dieren die toch zouden sterven afgeschoten. Zo wordt hen nodeloos lijden bespaard.

Everytime I saw the sun shining on the snow. It was a very spectacular sight...stopping, normally in my case, means sun gone:-( This time the sun was very nice to me to shine at the right moment on the best snowy spot:-)

In the basement of this house, Spanish merino wool was washed and dyed using lime-free water. Spinning and weaving took place within the pre-industrial publishing system by homeworkers. In this way, the owner Johann Heinrich Scheibler of the Red House proudly told his jealous neighbors that he was "feeding 4,000 people through his factory alone.".

Monschau - Architecture
The popular historical town center has many preserved half-timbered houses and narrow streets have remained nearly unchanged since the 18th century. Very touristy in the high season but outside of this busy period you can still explore the beauty of this beautiful town.

Long Pond, Parsonsfield, Maine.
The hard winter freeze has come to Parsonsfield over the past few day's bringing record setting cold and strong North West winds.
Wind blown water spray on Long Pond has created many ice formations along the eastern shoreline.
Shooting models is fun. I hope I have more opportunities in working with some amateur models locally in the future.
In this shooting, we were lucky to have a short-lived snowfall and this added interesting elements to the picture.
This is picture taken in 2012 with my photo club friends.

We had mixed bag of weather last Sunday. We had cloudy and overcast sky. We had snow and flurries. And we had sunny break too. Our leader Jacky said this is great day for an outdoor shooting like this.
I believe in his judgement on this. The late February snowfall did create a very special setting for our portrait shooting.
The snowfall is beautiful to look at anytime. But it is freezing cold out there. Jennifer is our model and she is amateur too. However she did pose for us professionally.
You could not imagine how she can stand the cold weather with such short skirt and little clothing. The photographers are all wearing down jackets at the time of shooting!
On behalf of the group, I would like to thank Jennifer for her great job and professionalism.
Hope you find the result pleasing. I am not confident at all with my portrait photography. Your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Closing in on the meat market (Kjøttbasaren) the rain turned into a waterfall! The dark patch at the top left is my hand keeping the lens dry and almost succeeding! Five seconds after this I was inside there taking some shots and leaving a pool of water everywhere I stood!

Tis Time for the Holiday Print Exchange. I have finalized some details and would like to make this formal announcement.
I am hosting the 1st Annual Flickr Holiday Print Exchange. December 5th 12:30pm at Kells Irish Pub in Downtown Portland. This will be a great time for all photographers to get together and share their work with others and talk about any and all things photography.
Here is how the Exchange will work.
Everyone brings one of their own pieces of work to exchange. I would like to see all images be 11x14 or 12x18 as these sizes are really nice for viewing and I think most people can find room for an image this size in their home or office!.
Please have the image wrapped before you arrive. When you arrive we will put a number on the image and a number in the hat. At the time of the drawing we will then draw numbers and whatever number you get will be the image that matches. Very simple and fun. If you have never had any images printed up at the larger sizes, I can recommend some great places.
I DO need RSVP's for this. This is NOT a locals only event, if you wish to travel and come visit us, that would be great....I welcome everyone from anywhere in the world. Once I get your RSVP, I will add your name to the list....

The red haired animated android named Rogg beams down to his home planet Exo III to find a phaser he collects and will not use from the 10th episode animation short. Designed in Spring 2021 by Ian H. Stewart. Rogg is voiced by actor Nate Wrista.

For those of you following the 100 Strangers group, you might have heard the beginning of this story already. Over the weekend, I flew down to Melbourne with Pete for our annual stranger shoot with Neil. Why we always meet in May when it's ridiculously cold? I have no idea. But to sweeten the deal, Sylvia joined us from Perth this year as well!
Off to an early start, I spent nearly the entire day on the sidelines watching everyone else search out, approach and photograph strangers. It's always inspiring to see Pete and Neil at work and I was equally impressed shooting with Sylvia for the first time. After lunch, I was still stranger-less and the pressure was mounting.
It generally takes me a while to warm up when shooting strangers, particularly given how infrequently I go these days. This time it took a while to warm up both literally and figuratively. But towards the end of the day, I spotted Jessie by the tram tracks in Bourke Street Mall. Her sister was in town—visiting from LA where she has been living for the last six years working as an actress—and they were spending the day together with their mum doing some shopping. Jessie is also keen to do acting and is currently studying it in Melbourne with aspirations to become a screen actor as well.
Jessie agreed to a portrait right away and waved her mum and sister off as I led her towards a suitable background, explaining the project along the way. Afterwards, I was kicking myself for shooting on the "wrong" side of the tracks where there was less natural light, but I am a sucker for a plain white background.

The general term ice age or, more precisely, "glacial age" denotes a geological period of long-term reduction in the temperature of the Earth's surface and atmosphere, resulting in an expansion of continental ice sheets, polar ice sheets and alpine glaciers. There have been at least four major ice ages in the Earth's past. Outside these periods, the Earth seems to have been ice-free even in high latitudes. There is evidence that greenhouse gas levels fell at the start of ice ages and rose during the retreat of the ice sheets, but it is difficult to establish cause and effect (see the notes above on the role of weathering). Greenhouse gas levels may also have been affected by other factors which have been proposed as causes of ice ages, such as the movement of continents and vulcanism. Although the last glacial period ended more than 8,000 years ago, its effects can still be felt today. For example, the moving ice carved out landscape in Canada, Greenland, northern Eurasia and Antarctica. The erratic boulders, till, drumlins, eskers, fjords, kettle lakes, moraines, cirques, horns, etc., are typical features left behind by the glaciers.

A hummock is a boss or rounded knoll of ice rising above the general level of an ice-field, Hummocky ice is caused by slow and unequal pressure in the main body of the packed ice, and by unequal structure and temperature at a later period.

Alhoewel er een zekere consensus bestaat onder wetenschappers, zijn er nog vele onzekerheden en tegenstrijdigheden in dit onderzoek.
Hierboven een foto van kruiend ijs. Zoetwatermeren kunnen spectaculair bevriezen. Grotere meren zoals het IJsselmeer (IJmeer) hierboven hebben bijna altijd wel golven, en dit werkt directe bevriezing van het wateroppervlak tegen. Eerst vormen zich kleine ijsschotsen, die naar de kust drijven onder invloed van de wind. Deze schotsen vormen zo een ijsveld op het water dat de golven dempt, en uiteindelijk vriezen alle schotsen aan elkaar vast tot een massa. Voordat dit gebeurt schuren de schotsen voortdurend langs elkaar heen en schrapen zo stukjes ijs van elkaar af; elke schots krijgt zo een witte rand. Zulk ijs is dus totaal niet geschikt om op te schaatsen. Wanneer grotere delen van het meer bevriezen beginnen de platen, die soms een paar vierkante kilometer groot zijn, langzaam tegen elkaar te bewegen onder invloed van de wind en stroming. Dit heeft kruiend ijs tot gevolg: de ijsschotsen worden met kracht gebroken en op elkaar gestapeld langs de dijken langs het meer. Dit hoeft niet alleen bij dun ijs te gebeuren; soms kruit het ijs bij een dikte van meer dan 20 cm. De stapels ijs worden dan hoog, en het geluid is oorverdovend.

Technical Seagull: Check the EXIF data and settings. Comment on the aperture and shutter speed! That is the essence of photography! Aperture 25.3 is better than 23.5!
Gear Seagull: Look at the camera and lens used. Praise the greatness of modern camera and optics! See if they use the right focal length. 300mm is better than 299!
Well-mannered Seagull: Always return comment to people who leave comment on your pictures!
Accounting Seagull: Substance over form! Subject is always the most important thing! When you see a self portrait, you want to say the subject is beautiful not the light, composition or camera skills!
Composition Seagull: Give your suggestion on the framing and arrangement on elements in the shot! Crop it! Rotate it! Put it upside down!!
Film Die Hard Seagull: Film is King and Queen! Though he or she is dying! Point out all the ridiculous tricks in digital editing and bring back the beauty of film (and wet darkroom).
Always Great Seagull: Use “Great” “Fab” “Amazing” “Beautiful” “Wonderful” and no other adjectives!
See the Light Seagull: If there is light, there is picture. If there is good light, there is good picture. If there is bad light, there is bad picture. It is that simple!
Ego Massage Therapist Seagull: Don’t criticize. Give supportive comments only. Everybody needs an ego massage after a long day’s work!
