I was at my daughter's house last night and these raccoons came to the door, probably looking for food and warmth. Suddenly they both stood up at the same time, as though pleading. I took this shot handheld through the window - it was below freezing outside.

My photo outing got cancelled today and has been postponed to Friday, but with the below freezing temperatures and black ice on the roads, I have a feeling it won't be happening.

An "icy" Norwegian experience. Tromsø lies above the Arctic Circle, at nearly 70 ° N latitude, which corresponds to the latitude of Alaska and Siberia.

The snout of this creature looks really fluffy ... but is it ultimately rather scratchy, crispy, hard? Like a beard? In any case, it was buried in the snow for a long time – as I could see – and so I couldn't help but pick a few stalks and serve them :-) We didn't get much closer then.

Die Schnute dieser Kreatur sieht ja ganz flauschig aus ... aber ist sie vielleicht letztendlich eher kratzig, knusprig, hart? So wie ein Bart? Jedenfalls wurde sie lange im Schnee vergraben – wie ich beobachten konnte – und so konnte ich es nicht lassen und habe ein paar Halme gepflückt und sie kredenzt :-) Viel näher sind wir uns dann doch nicht gekommen.

Today is a great opportunity to dig out one of my fidget pictures from the winter time ;-). A path at the edge of the forest near my village on a snowy day with little light, icy paths for a shaky walk – the ideal conditions for experiments ...

I am fascinated by what such a simple snowfall can do with a simple landscape. A walk in early April – with the typical change in weather from warm spring sunshine to bitter cold winter snow. Changeable. A little like painting.

Was so ein einfacher Schneefall mit einer einfachen Landschaft so bewirken kann, fasziniert mich. Ein Spaziergang Anfang April – mit dem typischen Wetterumschwung von warmem Frühlingssonnenschein zu herbkaltem Winterschnee. Wechselhaft eben. Ein wenig wie Malerei.

Maybe a passable new way to get the latest news out? Maybe we should take an example from this tree, which apparently conducts its conversations by plucking ;-) Something like how a telegram works? Today I was on a long walk with a good friend to talk, a bit arduous through partially frozen and slushy paths – but very nice :-))

Vielleicht eine passable neue Möglichkeit, die neuesten Nachrichten zu versenden? Vielleicht sollten wir uns ein Beispiel an diesem Baum nehmen, der anscheinend seine Gespräche durch Zupfen führt ;-) So ähnlich wie ein Telegramm funktioniert? Ich war heute mit einer guten Freundin auf einem langen Spaziergang zum Reden, etwas beschwerlich durch teilweise gefrorene und mit Schneematsch bestückte Wege – aber sehr schön :-))

This spot is in the Southern Flinders Ranges, just north of the delightful town of Burra, South Australia.

It was mid-afternoon and a storm front was passing through with bands of rain, hailstones, and a gusting wind so strong that I found it impossible to stand in the one spot as I had to continually move about to avoid being blown off my feet.

I turned my 4W/D sideways to form both a wind break and shelter from the rain which soon eased, and this scene was captured through the open window of the driver’s door.

As can be seen in this capture, the sky was a swirling mass of clouds of every description, all rushing headlong across the sky as they headed south.

It was absolutely freezing cold, and the forecast indicated that snow was possible. As far as I know, snow did not eventuate however, I soon headed for warmer surrounds at Broken Hill before returning a couple of days later.

Sorry, no interest – that's probably what it means. This ignorant departure disappointed me a little ;-) but meanwhile it was forgiven, I am not resentful. This scene is from the beginning of February, when everything was sunk in the snow here – as it has not been for many years ...

As if you had been in a bewitched forest ... Even if it certainly looks rather strange to others who watch me fiddling with the camera. What is she doing there, why is she jumping around like that? But – it did turn out to be a nice pattern, is'nt it? ;-)

Still a lot of blowing snow.

Irgendwas passiert? Spuren in der Leere.

Even in nothing you can discover a lot. Who has been there, walked here, trampled, maybe hopped? Do I know any of them? Did I meet someone on my way – but didn't notice? Are there any traces of blood on the way? This view simply shows the view from a bridge, here in my village. And even if it looks so empty - there seem to be some on the way ;-)

Selbst in dem Nichts kann man viel entdecken. Wer ist dort gewesen, hier gegangen, getrappelt, vielleicht gehüpft? Kenne ich irgendwen davon? Habe ich jemanden auf meinem Weg getroffen – ihn aber nicht bemerkt? Sind das etwa Blutspuren auf dem Weg? Dieser Blick zeigt ganz schlicht die Aussicht von einer Brücke, hier in meinem Dorf. Und auch wenn es so leer aussieht – es scheinen ja doch einige unterwegs zu sein ;-)

... returns home with outstanding photographs of the even more outstanding Icelandic nature.

That morning was so incredibly cold that most of the time I was blinded by tears behind goggles and could not breathe behind the scarf wrapped around my face and yet, we had to stay and get these shots seeing that these two guys were braving the weather and getting incredible images of that storm having the surf throwing back all those ice floes onto the black volcanic beach.

-5 deg F sure makes for some cool images of Niagara Falls!

i was pulling a meganjane...too cold to go out and shoot, so i took this through my dining room window!

I had to be quick, because I had just turned around – these two brave runners were pretty fast despite the slippery ground ;-) This shirt shone like a ray of light in pastel winter gray, a welcome splash of color for my favorite game with the camera when it gets dark – long exposure with camera movement is like painting for me :-)

Schnell musste ich sein, ich hatte mich nämlich erst wieder umgedreht – diese beiden tapferen Läufer waren ziemlich schnell trotz rutschigem Boden ;-) Wie ein Lichtblick im pastelligen Wintergrau strahlte dieses Shirt mir entgegen, ein willkommener Farbklecks für meine Lieblingsspielerei mit der Kamera, wenn es dunkel wird – Langzeitbelichtungen mit Kamerabewegung ist wie Malen für mich :-)

This is our front yard after the wicked 2 day snow storm dumped 50cm's of snow!

Thanks to rist2796 for the conversion.....50cms=19.69 inches or 1.6 feet

There is a wrap around deck which is barely visible here....the birds actually could hop up to the feeders as the snow is that high.......

I hope that EVERYONE that stops in today has an AWEsome day.. :)

Este es nuestro patio después de los impíos 2 días objeto de dumping tormenta de nieve de 50 cm de nieve!

Hay una envoltura alrededor de la cubierta que es apenas visible aquí .... las aves realmente podría hop hasta los alimentadores como la nieve que es de alto .......

Espero que toda persona que se detiene en la actualidad tiene un AWEsome día / noche .. :)

Small flock of male and female Goldeneye Ducks in the freezing open water of Georgian Bay. In 24 hours this section of the bay was frozen and the ducks were further out in the lake.

A great idea to convert the old construction trailer into something like this. Now chickens live in it ;-) One of the hens is probably looking at the weather. Is it pleasant or would you rather go back in? It quickly disappeared again ... We also once had a site trailer in our garden. When we built – sooo long ago ... We could stow our tools there and hide in a rain shower ...

Eine prima Idee, den alten Bauwagen so umzufunktionieren. Jetzt wohnen Hühner drin ;-) Das eine Huhn schaut wohl gerade nach dem Wetter. Ob das wohl angenehm ist oder lieber wieder rein? Schnell ist es wieder verschwunden ... Wir hatten ebenfalls einmal einen Bauwagen in unserem Garten stehen. Als wir gebaut haben – sooo lange ist's her ... Man konnte da gut das Werkzeug verstauen und sich bei einem Regenschauer verkriechen ...

I love snow - even when it's only a few centimeters like here.

There was lovely warm sunlight peaking through the thick clouds for about 15 minutes before it went 'grey in grey' again - with freezing cold wind ... we were almost alone out there on our stroll on Sunday afternoon ...

Ich liebe Schnee, auch wenn es - wie hier - nur ein paar Zentimeter sind.

Während unseres Spaziergangs gab es etwa für 15 Minuten eine tolle Lichtsstimmung, bevor es wieder 'Grau in Grau' war ... mit eiskaltem Wind ;))
