freezing snow crystals. on roadside cow parsley, (anthriscus sylvestris) also known here as wild fennel, down at murtholm farm. langholm, dumfriesshire, scotland.

The owls weren't very active on this day. Most spent the afternoon perched on the fences and preening.

Most of us in the deep South received freezing rain during the night. This fellow told me he was grateful for the feeder. he did mention that it was half empty but he understood that I didn't want to slip slide over there just now to refill it to the top. Please view large on black.

  

When the temperatures are low enough (-35C) to through boiling water over your head knowing that it freezes instantly.

it was grim this morning. 66117 idles away ready to work 0M94 to Milford. 66206 is shut down with frost forming on the cab. Knottingley fitter goes about his business servicing a 66. unfortunately the hose is frozen.

Along the defunct railway bridge which spans the river Lune are scores of spiders' webs.

 

Following a severe overnight frost, the remains of these webs were covered in the most delicate hoar frost.

 

With the sun shining on them, and the river as a backdrop, they looked beautiful.

 

I wonder where spiders go when it is so cold. Do they hibernate?

Freezing winter morning in southern Germany.

Huntington Beach (Bay Village, OH) in the winter. Temperature was hovering around 5 degrees F.

It was freezing cold on the Empire State Building, but the view was really spectacular.

Freezing fog on the Lincolnshire Wolds turns the world white.

Hoare frost clothing trees on the Ouse while mist clings on through midday ready for evening resurgence.

She spiders web on the finial of our gate has attracted some condensation that has turned into very attractive frost.
