Smile on Saturday; Open for anything, within reason...

Out hiking and the time flies. Coming down from the mountains and the marvelous light, and you suddenly realize that its pretty dark in the forest, all colors disappear and its very, very quiet.....

Phew, I had my torch in my pocket 🙏.

😆.

For Smile on Saturday - "free theme"

"And so I'm offering this simple phrase

To kids from one to ninety-two

Although it's been said many times, many ways

Merry Christmas to you".

- The Christmas Song

...my favourite version has to be the one sung by Nat King Cole:

For Macro Mondays "Member's Choice - Bokeh" theme. Merry Christmas to all my Flickr friends, and may you have a beautiful New Year. HMM!

Vatadage is a unique architectural building which completely housed the Stupa. These building were constructed at the very early periods as the Stupas in this time were quite small.

This Vatadage at Medirigiriya is built on a small rock. The entrance to this is on the northern side. At the bottom of the staircase is a massive stone frame. This is 9’9” feet tall and 4’9” feet in breath. After climbing 27 stone steps you come to a resting area. Thereafter there are 4 more steps to reach the Stupa house. Around the Stupa house is a stone wall which is about one meter in height. On the four sides are four beautifully carved Buddha statues in the seated position. In the centre there has been the Stupa which is in ruins today.

The roof of the Stupa house has been built on three concentric circles of stone pillars most of which still can be seen in the original state. The inner most circle of 16 pillars are 17 feet in height and the other two circles are 16 and 9 feet in height and 20 and 32 in numbers respectively. There are many opinions of what the roof would have looked like by many archaeologists. Some even believe there never has been a roof considering the sizes and the number of pillars. Anyway this site remains one of the best examples of local craftsmanship of the ancient Sri Lanka.

Plumbago are everywhere and the flowers are such a pretty shade of mauve, but what grabbed my attention was the forest of little green 'hairs' with their sticky droplets along the bottom of the stems of each flower. They are so willowy and delicate. Nature is amazing.

I love going to the hardware shop and looking at all the shiny metal things. I wouldn't know what to do with three-quarters of it, but hardware can be so pretty.

My original idea for Macro Monday's theme "Drips, Drops and Splashes". Ink drops on a CD form the word "drop" in Braille. Since I preferred this blurry version with only the pinpoints of light sharp, I decided to not add it to MM's group pool, but to upload it as an outtake.

Thank you for your kind comments, I appreciate every single one, and your faves!

7DWF Monday: Free Theme

We are starting a diner project, for the second time, where this year we will "Eat in Eight". Eight diners of our choice, out of New Jersey's 525 diners.

First up was The Pop Shop Diner in Colingswood. They had 48 flavors of milk shakes, 18 types of French fries and 33 different grilled cheese listed. But only the party room was open on this day, so the retro diner ambience I read about was less than I expected.....

For Smile on Saturday - Free Theme:

this smoke brought to mind an old nursery rhyme

I'm a Little Tea Pot

Short and stout

here is my handle

and her is my spout.

MALACHI: "Oh look, Mutzli! A whole basket of pretty chocolate Easter Eggs in a basket, just for me!"

MUTZLI: "And I received a large foil wrapped Easter Egg! I'm so lucky!"

MALACHI: "Oh I do love Easter, Mutzli! I think it's my favourite time of the year!"

MUTZLI: "Even more than Christmas, Malachi?"

MALACHI: "Well..." *Considers.* "Maybe as much as Christmas!"

MUTZLI: "Happy Easter everyone!"

MALACHI: "And happy Easter everybear!"

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 19th of April is “free theme”, where any photo is admissible. It was suggested that if I have a photo somewhere in your photostream or archive that you would love to showcase, then this is the perfect time to do so! I have hundreds of photographs that have never seen the light of day, and I could have used any number of them, but as it is Easter, I have decided to stick with the seasonal theme commenced yesterday with the “Looking Close on Friday” theme of “Easter Greetings”. In this case, I have used two of my 1:12 miniature bears, Malachi and his cousin Mutzli who are sitting inside half of the rather charming Russian papier mâché egg I acquired a little while ago from a Russian gift shop in the city, which opens up and is hollow inside, lined with a pretty stencilled pattern. Another little Russian hand painted wooden egg featuring a folk art floral pattern I picked up at the same time can be seen to the right of the egg Malachi and Mutzli are sitting in. The other delicate and fragile Easter eggs that surround them have been painted completely by hand in Turkey in a beautiful Art Nouveau style, known as Arts and Crafts Movement or “Style Liberty” in the United Kingdom. The eggs all have a solid background over which a stylised pattern of flowers in a William Morris style has been painted. The decorated eggs are then covered in a varnish to protect the fragile hand painted surface. The eggs are all painted in Turkey by one family, and then shipped to Australia. The family also make stylish wooden spherical Christmas ornaments with similar Style Liberty design. I hope you like my choice of this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile!

Malachi I acquired in mid-March 2020 (and mid Coronavirus) from a wonderful Melbourne stalwart toy shop: Dafel Dolls and Bears, when I went looking for a present for one of my goddaughters. Malachi is designed by Mary and hand-made by Wendy Joy in Australia. He has articulated arms and legs, and an extremely sweet face. Malachi was the name he came with, written by hand on his little tag.

Mutzli was a lovely surprise gift from a dear friend in Britain who kindly slipped him into a parcel of other delightful gifts for me. Like Malachi, he is mohair, has articulated arms and legs, and an extremely sweet face. Mutzli got his name from the tiny gold tag around his neck. He is made by Mutzli, a Swiss bear manufacturer since 1949.

OK, so the trees downhill have actually a "reason" if they are feeling jealousy.

This white tree had the best view of them all..

The other trees can't move their roots and find another spot.

They are actually stuck.

When someone says they are jealous because of something I have achieved or how I live my life, then I wonder.

Jealousy is a powerful word. It's indeed loaded with negative stuff and I bet we use it in a casual way without thinking what it really means.

We all have choices, whether you like it or not.

Sometimes we don't feel that we have choices, but I think we do.

I think that we don't want to see that we can choose, because it's convenient.

If you feel in your gut, your intuition, that something should be different in your life, than you should move towards the change. Try to listen what your intuition tells you. It can be difficult because you have an Ego that tries to decide for you...

Ego is definitely something else than intuition.

If you feel deep down that you are moving along the correct path, you should rest in the peace this gives you.

There will always be someone out there that questions your choices, ignore them and give yourself a nice stroke on your cheek if you know that this is correct for you ♥

Been there, done that!

Life can be difficult, but its worth the struggling.

Life becomes more and more satisfying and beautiful.

But you must listen to your intuition - it knows what is best for you.

Trying to cook spaghetti differently. Somehow the recipe was not that delicious. By the way, besides the smell, my house is still fine ;-)

... for love and peace

Doves are often seen as a sign of peace and hope. This week I watched a Mourning Dove start to build a nest in the cedars in our backyard. I had to take the picture through our patio window so I did not scare the pair off. The male brings the materials to the female who actually builds the nest. In these times, I am taking this as sign of hope and renewal in our world. I wish much peace to everyone on this Easter Weekend.

We passed this colorful South American restaurant while walking downtown Collingswood after lunch.

We are starting a diner project, for the second time, where this year we will "Eat in Eight". Eight diners of our choice, out of New Jersey's 525 diners. First up was The Pop Shop Diner in Colingswood. Then a walk downtown where there was a shop of any kind you could imagine. This is a town that is being resurrected and is so far known for its eateries but trying for an arty type atmosphere....

No better spot from which to take in the sunset than the Wailea Beach Path in Maui. Perhaps my very favorite place to be. Taken about a week later in the same area: flic.kr/p/2r2jkTY .

Macro Monday: Blues

7DWF, Monday: Free Theme

Size of the pyramid: 4,5 x 3,5 cm / 1,77 x 1,18 inches

The real Blues was behind the camera. Blue is a favourite colour of mine, and I have lots of blue bits and pieces, but somehow couldn't think of anything that really made sense or was blue and bluesy. So I decided to settle just for the colour. I almost decided to skip this week when I remembered my Faber-Castell Pitt India ink pencils. I have a box with 48 pencils (and some extra pencils), and there are many shades of each colour, including blue. The "B" on the cap is for "brush".

A Happy Macro Monday Everyone ;-)

The change in colors is quite amazing and the white seeds on the Rosebay Willowherb are quite phenomenal in how artistic they are in their looks 😊

So happy to capture this little blue bird, and he even turned to strike a pose for me.

How I wonder what they're talking about? Boys are nothing like girls! 🤔
