Clean, non-polluting smoke, released as steam, from a chimney which is connected to urban heating.

How to resist the blue of this sky in contrast to the white chimney and gorgeous cloud of white smoke?

Palace of Xerxes, in Persepolis, Iran, was destroyed and plundered by Alexander The Great in 330 B.C.

.

The Palace of Xerxes is quite similar in architectural style to the Palace of Darius, although it was twice as big and is slightly less well preserved than its neighbour. The best preserved part is the staircase. The main palace hall originally had 36 columns and was surrounded by six smaller rooms.

Directions: As you approach from the main staircase, the Palace of Xerxes is to your far left, in the southern corner of Persepolis.

On the death of her lover, George McEwan, a half French/half Scottish woman, recounts in flashback her passionate relationship with Gavin McCall, a humble fisherman. Their romance goes back in time more than thirty years.

In the 1950s, George, then a vivacious young woman living in France, comes to Scotland to spend her long summer vacation with her younger sister, Frédérique. While helping the locals take in the straw, she meets an attractive and simple man Gavin, whose sister, Mary, becomes one of her friends. Smitten with each other, George and Gavin begin a torrid affair going for a moonlit swim. As the summer ends, George and her sister return to attend school in Paris where they live with their parents. Mary asks the two sisters to be her bridesmaids. Back in Scotland for Mary’s wedding, George and Gavin continue their romance escaping the wedding celebration on a cave at the seashore.

Months later, back in France, George is surprised by Gavin’s visit. She shows him Paris while they continue their love affair. He asks her to marry him but she refuses. George wants to study at the Sorbonne and pursue her intellectual goals. She does not see herself as the wife of a fisherman in a Scottish Village. Realizing that, for her, the cultural and life style differences between them are too great to overcome, she refuses his marriage proposal. Their lives take separate ways and they stop seeing each other. George becomes an intellectual and feminist activist. She marries and has a son. Ten years later, George, now divorced, moves to Quebec pursuing an academic career teaching and writing a book on women's studies. Her second marriage to Sidney, an intellectual, proves to be dry and ends in divorce.

George's friend, Ellen, a fellow feminist writer, invites her to accompany her for a summer trip to England. On a street in London, she comes across Gavin once again. He still resents her refusal to marry him a decade ago. She would like to rekindle their romance. Gavin, hurt and still in love with her, initially refuses. Soon, however, he has a changed of heart and accepts to go with George to a romantic vacation in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. From then on, they begin to meet each other with some frequency through the years, loving each other despite their differences. Scotland, Montreal, and the St. Bernard de Clairvaux Church in Florida, served as the background for their encounters.

George and Gavin’s romance ends abruptly with his death. At the funeral, Josie, Gavin’s widow, gives George a letter Gavin left to her. It reads: Before you came in to my life, I believed that each day resemble the other. And they will continue this way until I died. Since you, and don’t ask me to explain, I only know that I want you in my arms from time to time if you wanted too. A thought that you exist somewhere and that you think of me sometime helps me to live...

================

To make this photo I mixed two, in one I made a sweep and the other I focused on the umbrella, then in the edition I added a little more movement and color. It is this same umbrella: www.flickr.com/photos/soymae/35776643092/in/dateposted/

Every flower quite simply shines ~ KissThePixel2018

The clock overhead has made some great moves in the past several months, 2014 tetrad, 2017 solar eclipse, and now the moon heads for the waning new moon but on September 23, the 11% moon joins a constellation story, of Virgo meeting Leo, in which supposedly from what I read Virgo or the Virgin at 12 noon will be over the sky of Jerusalem clothed in sun with Leo at her head giving the virgin 9 stars above her head, also at this time Mercury, Venus, and Mars will line above the virgins head to make it a full twelve stars crowning her head, and at her feet will be the crescent moon right, and under the left a comet 67P. Then to top all this for 9 months Jupiter has been inside the triangle of the virgins constellation and at 12 noon, Jupiter will come out of the belly of the virgin and move between the legs of Virgo, but as I said none of it will matter because it is all washed out by the sun which is why it is said to cloth the virgin, the alignment never has happened in the time of the solar system so if a unexplained eclipse was to happen so this could be seen then this would be the ah and wonder never before seen by mankind.

You know it's love

when you want to keep holding butts

I was drawn to FLICKR after I published a cookbook and Harper Collins did not include any photos. I wanted to try my hand at food photography. I have a few cameras and my fav is my Canon Rebel.

I fractured my wrist in 2015 and the camera was way too heavy to handle while I was healing so I switched to my Iphone. This is a photo I took during that time. It was chosen by Apple for display advertising their latest phone and published on billboards and Saveur magazine.

Star-shaped flowers shoot out from the center of a decorative allium plant. I have always admired allium flowers (alliums? allia?) for their dramatic, globular shapes, but up close they are even more startling, like mini universes at the moment of creation.
