After seeing this quilt : www.flickr.com/photos/21109064@N04/3799401530/
I was inspired to make my own version. I used mostly Heather Bailey's Freshcut and a little pindot. The sashing is Moda Bella in Snow.
It measures 50"x70"

This quilt is a gift for my oldest son for his recent birthday. He wanted "aliens" on his quilt, hence the martians fabric bit in the border. :)

Thanks!

The quilt top for my friend's baby complete!
Using Heather Ross's Lightning Bugs & Other Mysteries Fabric.
Fons & Porter's pattern - Crossroads Baby Quilt
Finished size should be 36" - mine will probably be a little smaller since I was off on the 1/4" seam allowance... it's only my second quilt! :)
here's the full set of stripes coordinates that are part of the Lightning Bugs & Other Mysteries line by Heather Ross for Free Spirit.
I changed the 215 & 240 around-sorry about the mixup...
due to some new info today (a shop that has both stripes and numbers on the bolts), I changed it back to the original numbers!
Day 27/365
Rosanna and I got back from London at about 4PM today having left early this morning. Every time I get back from London it's an instant relief. The countryside, the fresh air is far too soothing to make the city ever look good enough to be home.
Today's photograph is a moment of joy <3

Doing a photo essay and reflection piece with Amy. She told me her heart and mind come together when she is in nature. Unfortunately, I was on a deadline and couldn't wait for the snow to disappear.
So we went to the McNeely Conservatory at the Como Zoo. She had never been there, so her facial expressions and body languages were a "de novo" reaction.to what she saw, and our running dialogue.
We talked about her life in a small town, and her yen to go to the "big city". She graduates this December 2019 and plans to go to grad school in virology in San Diego. She said, "I like miniature things."
The audio we recorded I will have adjacent to the photo that reflects the moods and her reaction to that point in our conversation.
Below her quote, I am going to do a reflection piece . . . Don't know what that is going to look like, but it is a "WIP" work in process. I'm not even sure that I will use these photos in the essay.
She just did her thing, I followed engaged in dialogue and "shot" when things seemed to creative a frission qne q connection . So while these may look "posed" . . . they aren't . . . The accompanying text will tie everything together. At least that's the plan.
But for the Flickr folks, I'll be posting various pix from this shoot.
Used a Tamaron 24-70mm, 2.8, AF and image stabilization which gave me a 4-stop advantage since I could not use a tripod or lighting. It's a great lens and the difference between that and the Canon 24-70mm L lens is the Tamaron is significantly less expensive,
Plus the Tamaron has vibration control, and is tack sharp without a discernible difference between it and the Canon equivalent. It's heavy rascal as you might expect with a 2.8 and the build quality is excellent.

The sun goes down on a French beach and a dog runs in front of the camera. In a split second I capture this wonderful moment. The orange glow pushing through the shadow and the reflection from the sand, makes it one to treasure.
A few days ago I got a shot of a black dog on frosty white land and here the inverse...

This image depicts a Hopi Snake Dancer in full regalia, with feathers and face paint. The dancer is holding a rattle in one hand and a staff in the other, with a look of determination on his face. The image is grungy, with a distressed texture and a muted color palette.
A girl dancing on one of the dance nights at P60. It took a while till I could hunt this shot, but I really like the result :)

How do you practice self-care?
For the past few months and for the forseeable future, I'm hooked on weight training.. not loads of weight, but lots of reps as well as yoga to stretch out muscle aches & pains. I want to be as strong on the inside & outside as I mentally feel on the inside!
It's okay to remove yourself from vulnerable situations, stop the roller-coaster, retreat..
Life happens at an alarming pace and we often unknowingly add to that momentum with the unecessary stress & pressure we put upon ourselves, let alone stresses from others.
Cancelling plans is okay. Staying home to cook is okay. Disappearing for a bit to get your life together is okay.
Resurfacing in a foreign country with a new name 10 years later is okay; it's called self-care.
I guess we haven't had much of a choice with the pandemic and lockdown for much of this year, but it's important that this message is instilled in us all the time.
Here's something a bit different from me for the first day of June 2016. I doubt very much whether any of these three boats is called The Candy, and in fact the one on the right has the name Freespirit, but some of you will probably recognise the title which seemed to fit quite well. This is the view at Clevedon Pill looking across the Bristol Channel (or is it still the Severn Estuary here? I never know) towards Wales on the evening of Thursday 26th May 2016.
