Day 209 of 366.
Inspired by the 1960s music Dan had playing in the background.
I was lucky enough to go in a quilting store a week ago that had some of the Mendocino fabrics in the golden and purple colorways, and they didn't know they were rare or discontinued! I bought about 3 yards of the Underwater Sisters print, about 3 1/2 of the gold octopus print this dress is made of, and about 3-4 other yards total of assorted prints. All for the price per yard of every other regular quilting fabric. Finally my lucky day!!
I used the Serendipity Studio Monique Dress pattern in XXS. (the dress seems to run a little large because of the ease, so I sized down)
Kona - Pepper, Charcoal, Slate, Coal, Medium Gray, Ash, Snow, Bone, White
Free Spirit - Nu Gray, Manatee, Slate Gray, Pastel Gray
Moda - Gray, Feather

I had a few packs of free spirit solid charm packs (I think they had 100 charms in each) and I wanted to learn how to sew curves. Ha, well now I know.
I used a stack and wack method to make the blocks, stacking two or three at a time, and randomly paired the colors (I threw them into a paper bag and pulled them out and stuck 'em together). I realized too late I was cutting most of my curves the same direction, but I don't mind it as much now.
This isn't very big (the squares, unfinished, are 4.25") - I actually have one more charm pack I could use to make more blocks, but I'm almost inclined to just sew this up, add a huge simple neutral border, and call it good.
And can I say that I just LOVE working with all solids?
It's been so long since I've bought any new fabric to play with, but I just couldn't resist this lovely print...
It’s been almost 6 months since I photographed my last stranger, I was searching for interesting and unique people with character as my subject and nothing felt right. I have spent more time on my mountain bike than behind the camera taking portraits, but today I decided to carry my DSLR with me on my ride and headed 10Km into the mountains. I stopped at a lookout point and pulled out my camera, a few moments later Angie road up on her mountain bike and sat down just beyond the lookout.
Being a one time hardcore mountain biker, I instantly recognized her slightly older, but quality Kona bike she was riding. Its not often I see a young woman riding an old school bike, it just stood out to me; she later explained that it was her dad's old bike.
I rode away briefly to find a few other shots to take, but came back empty handed. When I returned to the lookout, Angie was practicing her Maori Poi Ball (pom-poms) and Chinese Fans, it was a beautiful backdrop, so I decided to see if she would mind being photographed. Initially I didn’t consider adding her to “My 100 Stranger’s Project” as this exercise had stalled for me; but as we chatted and got to know her a bit more, she became the perfect subject to get this project restarted again.
Angie is a naturally beautiful young woman who even after a wearing a bike helmet in the near 20 degree C temperatures still looked terrific. She has a free spirited organic kind of soul & was very comfortable in front of the camera.
She is currently expanding her wings in various post secondary studies and trying to find her calling and place in our hierarchical capitalistic society. I know she will find her calling, as her heart is in the right place.
A young woman with a top with various camera prints on it needs to be photographed.
