I was in my friend's garden in the country when He almost steps on this beautiful baby swallow ! Then we found tree !!! and .her mohter was flying around...Their nest was in my friend's roof....We only hold this one cuz the others were "flying" .... after a while.( pictures!) we put it on the ground and his mother went to see him.

It is one year since the major earthquake and devastating tsunami hit Northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011. We are amazed at the resilience of the Japanese people, but scars remain and even small aftershocks bring a grim reminder of how fragile life is when you are living on a fault line.
I wanted to mark this anniversary in some way and decided to do another video based on a song written last year after watching the reports from Japan, and similar to a video about Sendai that I did at that time. I had some pictures of cherry blossoms from Tohoku in my files, but no pictures to document the devastation along the coast. Fortunately, Haribote (Tetsulaw Kimura), was kind enough to let me use some images from his photostream and I want to thank him for his generosity.

Avant-garde light and sound show in St.Giles Cathedral during Edinburgh's Hogmanay. Really weird and neat at the same time. Not convinced about the electronic music though.

Birch trees are the first to colonise open moorland. they live up to 50 or so years and then are replaced naturally by Oak. This area is returning to its natural forest. Harden moor.

Something completely different and not my usual subject matter. Taking a minute to stop (between shooting the decaying fishing boats and shacks) you notice what fantastic plant life is to be found.
Dungeness is a designated national nature reserve and contains 600 plant species that amount to a third of all of those found in the UK. I reckon that's pretty special!

Mayflies (or Mayflies) are fragile insects from the insect order Ephemeroptera. They are among the oldest living winged insect species and have been flying around the earth for millions of years. They live most of their lives underwater but as soon as they come out of the water they are literally doomed because they can no longer eat at that stage. The adult stage is only for reproduction and they therefore only live a few hours to a few days. This is why they owe their name 'Mayflies'. Not quite right because this is only based on the last stage of their life stage because together with the nymph stage they live considerably longer, up to several years. In addition, they also do not belong to the insect order of the Flies, which may also suggest this name. The name 'Haften' is therefore more appropriate and less confusing. Worldwide there are about 2000 species, in Central and Northwestern Europe about 70 and in the Netherlands we find about 40 species. They are usually found in large numbers near water. That water does not have to be very large, a small pond is already sufficient for the presence of this delicate insect.
