«Mes espaces sont fragiles : le temps va les user, va les détruire. Rien ne ressemblera plus à ce qui était, mes souvenirs me trahiront, l’oubli s’infiltrera dans ma mémoire, je regarderai sans les reconnaître quelques photos jaunies aux bords tout cassés.» Perec.
“My places are fragile: time is going to use them, to destroy them. Nothing will look like it was, my memories will betray me, forgetting will seep into my memory, I shall look without recognizing them some photos turned yellow with quite broken edges.”

These maple leaves are the only thing I have asked my brother to bring me from the States...

4th photo of my "No one likes you when you're 23" self portrait series.
Fun Fact: After these photos I took another concept set and had this random black stuff on my face and could not for the life of me figure out where it was from. It wasn't until editing these photos I realized it was from the black pollen stuff coming off the one yellow flower I had held up to my face.
Probably won't be able to write a blog post for tomorrow's photo, I work during the day and then I'm going to see The Used at night =]
I had been on the lookout for a hummingbird to photograph for months. The first one I see in a long time and it landed right in front of me for 5 seconds. Sometimes when you stop looking for something, you find it.

From the Scotland retreat. We spent some time at this little loch and I was intrigued by what I found in the water. The delicacy and fragility.

A fragile machine from another age crosses a vast and troubled sky. For a brief moment, the earliest dreams of flight seem alive again.

If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrow´s rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay.
Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime´s argument
That nothing comes from violence
And nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall like tears from a star, like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say how fragile we are, how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall like tears from a star, like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say how fragile we are, how fragile we are
How fragile we are, how fragile we are
Wenn Fleisch und Stahl eins geworden sind
Fließt das Blut und trocknet in den Farben der Abendsonne
Morgen wird der Regen die Flecken wegwaschen
Doch in unserer Erinnerung bleibt immer etwas zurück
Handle with care, don't be rough
Don't break my heart because I'm not tough
Be gentle, and be kind
Clear your thoughts, get a peace of mind
Watch over me and be take care
And I'll try to handle all I can bear
Even when you're gone keep an eye over me
So safe I will always be
But until that day protect me while
I lay here quietly, so fragile
“There are so many fragile things, after all. People break so easily, and so do dreams and hearts.”
― Neil Gaiman, Fragile Things
Fragile things
dreams are
clinging
to the outskirts of the mind
so easily torn away
by the harshness of many realities
I sometimes wake
with visions of you
still clinging to me
barely hovering
and I am caught
in an inbetween
Not awake
Not asleep...

I found many of these shells in our yard underneath a dead plant. I am assuming they are from snails, but don't know for sure. I was amazed at the number of them all in one place and the fact that all but one were in perfect condition; i.e., they were not "broken." However, the one that struck me as most beautiful was the imperfect one--the one that was broken. It allowed me to see the spiraling structure inside.
This week's theme for Macro Mondays is "Imperfection" and I wanted to do something that would incorporate the philosophy of "wabi sabi" which is the Japanese concept of aesthetics stating that beauty is found in things that are "imperfect, impermanent and incomplete." There is a wonderful book on the subject: Wabi-Sabi: for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers by Leonard Koren. I highly recommend it.
