This shot is particularly dear to me for many reasons. Mainly because it was quite difficult to take it the way I wanted to. I often try to give a "painting-like" feeling to my shots working exclusively in camera, without adding PP and I think this is my best result so far.
It is a 1:1 macro taken with my EOS500D and my best lens, the mighty (for my budget) Canon EF 100mm L IS USM, at 1/80 sec f/3.5, ISO 100, with my homemade flash diffuser put on a 270 EX.
This is a repost that I originally captured in april 2010.
If you like it, favourites are really appreciated! :D And they come back!
I would love if you could pay a visit to my blogs:
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in
– Leonard Cohen
P.S. - If you squint* you can see Emerson’s rock in this photograph.
To wit:
The rock cannot be broken. It is the truth.
It rises from land and sea and covers them.
It is a mountain half-way green and then,
The other immeasurable half, such rock
As placid air becomes. But it is not
A hermit’s truth nor symbol in hermitage.
It is the visible rock, the audible,
The brilliant mercy of a sure repose,
On this present ground, the vividest repose,
Things certain sustaining us in certainty.
from Wallace Stevens, CREDENCES OF SUMMER
*Note: Your squint may, or may not be, metaphorical.

I continue to be amazed at the images I may remember well when taking them (or forget taking them altogether) and then "stumble" across them when looking over "old photo folders" in my archives (which are meticulously filed by time and place.)
I arrived in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco by bus from my hotel at around 8:30 am to specifically photograph Broadway where the old Condor Theater stands. This was where the XXX rated clubs were in the 1970s and I wanted to photograph the area. I ended up walking up Broadway toward Chinatown, and then walked Grant Street all the way through to California Street, where I took a cable car all the way to Fisherman's Wharf.
This is a highly processed telephoto shot taken at 87mm with my kit lens, then sharpened and filtered in Photoshop and Aurora HDR. Photomatix Pro, as usual, combined the three exposures for the HDR. I would say this is pretty much where Chinatown "begins" (on Grant Street anyway, which is the "Main Street" of the neighborhood.)
Because it was early in the morning, there weren't a lot of folks walking up and down the street, and very little traffic as well. And I'm amazed that in over a year I've never processed nor presented any of the photos I took of the area (except for one shot of the Condor Club and one of the Zoetrope Cafe which aren't in Chinatown) till now.

La canción.
You and whose army, Radiohead.
Come on, come on
You think you drive me crazy
Come on, come on
You and whose army?
You and your cronies
Come on, come on
Holy Roman empire
Come on if you think
Come on if you think
You can take us on
You can take us on
You and whose army?
You and your cronies
You forget so easy
We ride tonight
Ghost Horses
Demi Lovato- Don't Forget
Did you forget
That I was even alive?
Did you forget
Everything we ever had?
Did you forget?
Did you forget about me?
Did you regret
(Did you regret)
Ever standing by my side?
Did you forget
(Did you forget)
What we were feeling inside?
Now I'm left
To forget about us
But somewhere we went wrong
We were once so strong
Our love is like a song
You can't forget it
So now I guess
This is where we have to stand
Did you regret
Ever holding my hand?
Never again
Please don't forget
Don't forget
We had it all
We were just about to fall
Even more in love
Than we were before
I won't forget
I won't forget about us
But somewhere we went wrong
We were once so strong
Our love is like a song
You can't forget it
Somewhere we went wrong
We were once so strong
Our love is like a song
You can't forget it at all
And at last
All the pictures have been burned
And all the past
Is just a lesson that we've learned
I won't forget
Please don't forget us
Somewhere we went wrong
Our love is like a song
But you won't sing along
You've forgotten about us

As of today, the music video for 'Forget' by René van Munster can be seen online. The track is part of the eponymous EP released in February.
This EP is the first collection of tracks showcasing René’s exploration into his dreamt-up computer-sequenced cello sound. The EP growls, screeches and sings like an acoustic instrument while the electronics launch you in a gigantic cello into outer space, flying through cosmic clouds of rosin, resonating with strings from other planets along the way.
The videoclip was shot by filmmaker Paul Bezuijen on location in Midden-Groningen (the Netherlands). The static pattern of a cultivated forest functions as a visualized memory grid. In this surreal world filled with everyday objects, dancer Quentin Roger is seemingly confronted with memories and ghosts from the past. Through expressive motion Quentin heightens the urgency and drive of the electronically manipulated cello music.
Forget Me Not (Myosotis arvensis) flowers
The Wikipedia entry for Myosotis arvensis tells us that:
Myosotis have 5-merous actinomorphic flowers with 5 sepals and petals. Flowers are typically 1 cm diameter (or less), flat, and blue, pink, white or yellow with yellow centres, growing on scorpioid cymes. They may be annual or perennial with alternate leaves. They typically flower in spring or soon after snow-melt in alpine eco-systems. Their root systems are generally diffuse.
Their seeds are found in small, tulip-shaped pods along the stem to the flower. The pods attach to clothing when brushed against and eventually fall off, leaving the small seed within the pod to germinate elsewhere. Seeds can be collected by putting a piece of paper under the stems and shaking the seed pods and some seeds will fall out.

Need to Know Stuff:
R2A [First time blogging!]: This is a lovely representation of a 60s dress, nicely pleated and floating just how you want it too, the texturing and colours are amazing, really catching on to that 60s vibe. How this has been created is simply stunning. I do like this dress, and it was certainly fun to be able to work with and setting up the avatar, I really wanted to get the whole 60s feeling to go into it. If you love the 60s and want the style, you have to have this adorable dress, it certainly gives off a cool refreshing beach walk feeling for the summer.
MIURA[First time blogging!]: These sunglasses are brilliant, they automatically come with a resize script so you can fit them perfectly to the shape and size of your head, there’s really not much messing needed which makes them superb. A great variety of colours are offered for these along with a few options for lens colour, which is great since you’re not stuck with the choice of clear, and black, you can have colours too! Simply fantastic. If you want to lay on your SL beach and look awesome while doing so… Then head on over and grab these sunglasses!

Forget ‘Manic Monday’, Think ‘Magic’ (In Memory Of ONJ & My Earliest Loves) - IMRAN™
Yes, it was another Manic Monday as The Bangles sang. But as the hot day came to an end — after being cooled by typical Florida summer thunderstorms — a Magic Monday emerged. The misty quiet mood of the impending sunset also marked the sad end of an era.
The beautiful, talented, brave cancer warrior, movie star, and singer Olivia Newton-John passed away. She sang some of the top pop songs of the 70s and 80s, including one that has deep sentimental value to me.
Her song Magic was released as a single on May 23, 1980, on my 18th birthday. It includes the lyrics, “You have to believe we are magic, Nothin' can stand in our way.”
My first-ever (teenage) crush (S.A) and I were on the phone, and had just said “I Love You” to each other for the first time, and this song started playing on the radio in Karachi, Pakistan. It was the first time saying those words for both of us, and she started crying with emotion.
Of course it was a puppy crush — and we were very young. Later, we carried on with our lives in different cities, provinces, and eventually different countries and continents. But the song has always been a source of pure joy, in addition to the beautiful memories.
Over the years I experienced far deeper loves. Each of those most powerful later loves in my life had a song or two associated with them. But those are stories for other days. Tonight, it’s all about Magic.
I am grateful for all the love I have received and expressed since the first time I said “I Love You” with this song. Thank you, Olivia Newton-John. Rest In Peace.

Love how these pretty little flowers form a blue carpet in the borders at this time of year :)
Many thanks for all the lovely comments and faves on my images :)
Forget-me-not flowers symbolise true love and respect. When you give someone these tiny blooms, it represents a promise that you will always remember them and will keep them in your thoughts. They are also considered a symbol of fidelity and faithfulness. The Forget me not flower is the symbol representing Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.
There is a room called the Forgetting Room. To find it, you close your eyes, breathe deeply and imagine......and it will take you there.
Whatever is on your mind to trouble you, or keep you awake, that you want to forget......you place it in the bottle, cork it tightly and the Fae will throw it into a Stream, where it is carried away...and away...... and you have forgotten it completely.
Thank you so much for your visits and comments. Hugs dear friends. xx

"The men in grey had an uncanny knack of making themselves so inconspicuous that you either overlooked them or forgot ever seeing them... Since nobody noticed them, nobody stopped to wonder where they had come from, or indeed, were still coming from, for their numbers continue to grow with every passing day."
(Momo - Michael Ende)
