Modena - Piazza Roma -

Into the Badlands with an absolute burner from this alien throne chamber. An incredibly rare and peaceful place to post up for a couple days. Could’ve stayed in this photo-playground for weeks. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to get out into the wilderness, but on my first Father’s Day I’m extremely grateful for my son, family, and that I still have the opportunity to explore these wonders of nature.

It has been a few years since I last visited the Hampshire village of East Meon which is surrounded by the South Downs National Park.

Like many picturesque villages it has a problem with parked cars and photographic opportunities can sometimes be limited. However, no such difficulty with this cottage which I notice has had a new thatched roof since last time - a very expensive outlay. As it is no longer a golden colour, it was probably done about 12 to 18 months ago.

Forge Cottage was built circa 1600 and was probably a small yeoman farmhouse. Presumably in the past it had some link with the village blacksmith hence the name but is now a private dwelling.

Grateful thanks to everyone who has looked at my photostream and commented and/or faved this photograph. Your interest is very much appreciated.

Most important of all, continue to keep safe during these increasingly uncertain times!

Alternate take on this week's Crazy Tuesday theme: on fire.

Happy Crazy Tuesday

Arrived back home last night after spending a few days in my favourite part of the world. This is a shot of Lord Berkeley's seat, the first pinnacle of the Corrag Bhuidhe ridge on An Teallach. Lord Berkeley is reputed to have sat down at the top with his legs dangling over the edge and smoked a pipe.

An Teallach - which in Gaelic means 'the forge', due apparently to the colour of the surrounding landscape of Torridonian sandstone - is on the northern edge of an area of north-west Scotland known as 'the great wilderness', and is widely regarded as one of Britain's finest mountains.

Encircling Toll an Lochain (seen here at the lower left), An Teallach has ten distinct summits over 3,000 ft (including Lord Berkeley's seat) but only 2 of them are afforded Munro status. I climbed 5 of them on Friday and have no hesitation saying it was physically one of the hardest things I've ever done.

This image was taken from the side of one of the Munros, Sgurr Fiona, the fair peak.

Had to have surgery last month, which is the reason for my absence on Flickr. I'm told that my recovery time will be lengthy, but I'm feeling better daily.

Earlier this week we had a snow fall and I could not resist getting out and shooting Valley Forge. I paid for it later that day, but got some material to last for a bit. I hope to be posting more from the shoot in the near future.

Meantime I look forward to visiting your streams that I've missed so much. I will be doing this gradually over time as there are other personal issues I'm dealing with. Little by little, one step at a time, I'll get there.

Hope you all are happy and well!

See it on black.

An Teallach, West Highlands, Scotland.

A photograph of the mountain An Teallach reflected in Loch Toll an Lochain. The mountain is nicknamed the Forge, although its literal translation into the English from the Gaidhlig (Scots Gaelic) gives it as the hearthstone of the forge.

The photo was taken after camping out beside the loch to get the sun striking the mountain in the morning. The walk along the ridge of the mountain is one of the great experiences of the Scottish hills and not for the faint hearted. Several people are killed walking the ridge which is no more than a foot wide in places. The drop is about 2000 feet / 600 metres.

In the Woods in Valley Forge National Park

Photo taken in 2009 on color negative film with an Olympus OM-10 camera (lens unrecorded) then desaturated and post processed with Adobe Elements to add a texture titled "Old Painting" created by Renee found here: www.flickr.com/photos/playingwithpsp/3285332590/ with Creative Commons license: creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/ .

This timber framed thatched cottage is situated in a village completely surrounded by the South Downs National Park, possibly one of the most scenic areas in the County of Hampshire.

The cottage was built circa 1600 and was probably a small yeoman farmhouse. It is now a grade 2 listed building which gives it legal protection from substantial alteration or development.

This photo was taken on an amazing morning in the Italian Dolomites. I went up to the hill between Tre Cime and Cadini di Misurina. A spot with impressive mountains in almost every direction. The conditions and light changed from minute to minute and made it possible to take so many different photos. Like this one which I call“ forge of light“. I’ve rarely seen such epic light.

An abandoned RV park sits about 0.25 miles (approx. 402 meters) from my home. Tall grass, a rusted chain and hook, a busted door, and a weather-worn sign are all that remain to let those who pass by know that, once upon a time, this was a resting spot for weary travelers.
