In the centre of the photo, at POELCAPELLE BRITISH CEMETERY, is the stone of Lieutenant Wilfred Aubrey Brewer of the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire regiment the Sherwood Foresters, my Dad's old regiment, killed at Passchendaele on Wednesday 21st November 1917 aged 23.

My first visit to Foresters Beach on the central coast of NSW. A great spot. Alas not much of a sky but it was worth the 60 minute drive to check out this great location. I will be back.

What a beauty! Imported in 2015. These are super rare over here

Built by Andrew Barclay in 1911, (works number 1260) the loco first worked at Abercarn, South Wales, at the Newport Tinplate Company. Later, it moved to Ebbw Vale steel works, where it was eventually put on display. Astonishingly, Newport Council had to pay out in excess of £10,000 to repair the loco after vandalism.

Eventually the loco was donated to the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway in 2012, although it is yet to return to steam.

I had never seen one of these Forester Moths before my trip to the Mach Loop this week. I enjoyed watching and photographing then in the quiet gaps when the aircraft were not around

We think these were Adscita statices rather than A. geryon (cistus forester) but its hard to be certain.

Hit up Foresters Beach for sunrise this morning. It did not want me there! I got there and all I could hear were huge crashing waves. I was trying to look around for the spots everyone had been capturing but it was too dark. When more light came I realised that all the good spots were being pounded by 5 foot waves. Dammit!! So I tried the best to get a shot but before i even clicked the shutter once I got smashed by a wave. Camera was ok but i was out of there. Walked down a bit onto another rock and got a long exposure but wasn't working. Headed back to the smaller rocks and the good stuff was starting. Good thing it lasted a while Which gave me time to grab a few different shots. Few rays about and a bit of colour which was good. From this mornings experience I am not happy with Foresters but I will be going back there in the near future to see if it will be nice to me.

A mystery caterpillar that I am fairly wildly naming a forester on a mystery plant.

Adscita statices taken at Ainsdale NNR nr. Southport. I saw 16 of these beautiful and striking moths this day - the most I've ever seen at this site where I've seen them every summer since 2013. They're only found at a few sites in the NW of England so seeing so many was amazing. You almost always find them nectaring on ragwort but this one was sat on a foxglove, making for a very colourful image

Today I revisited an abandoned building which had previously had a few interesting but clearly neglected cars in it, including a Mercedes W115 (which can be seen in front), however what I found was a few newer but equally neglected cars, the most valuable of which was this Subaru Forester. Why such a new and valuable car is doing in such a state is a mystery, although it does seem very dodgy that cars like this would be left in an unguarded shell. I don't want to jump to conclusions but it wouldn't surprise me if some of them were stolen.

In 2009 I wasn't nearly as active on Flickr, but was taking lots of photographs. There are quite a few untapped images in folders from that year, and some are worth sharing even this many years later.

I've learned a lot about how to shoot this type of subject between then and now, and the gear has gotten so much better, but I still like this capture of the very tiny, very flitty-type moth.

A day flying Moth described as local. Luckily we have a site just north of Cardiff, on coal spoil, where it is common.
