Medium-sized woodpecker with unique face pattern: red crown, pale yellowish forehead and throat, and pale eye. Otherwise glossy-black with streaky underparts. In flight, look for blazing white rump and wing patches. Typically fairly common from western North America to Colombia, especially in mixed oak forests and other open woodlands. Social and conspicuous. Occurs in family groups that breed cooperatively. Well-known for stashing large numbers of acorns in telephone poles and tree trunks. Listen for nasal “waka-waka” calls and chatters.

This elderly gentleman with the blossoms over his earwas the attendant at a ruined Buddhist temple nearby the Elephant Cave, in a light rain. He has ritual wet rice grain attached to the middle of his forehead. Rice is applied between the eyebrows, a place where Buddhism believes all our energy is concentrated, and it is one of the 'chakras' in our body called agni chakra, the center of spirituality. It is the spot to connect to our inner self.

20/05/2017

Quite a long time ago - almost two and a half years in fact, I felt unwell. The tissues and the linctus were dragged from the cupboards along with the extra strong Lemsip and the cheap whisky (I refuse to waste the single malt on maladies). I spent the entire May afternoon lying on the sofa with the back of my hand over my forehead feeling sorry for myself.

In one sense I'd picked a good day to be ill. Manchester City rewarded me for being poorly by matching the long standing record score for an FA Cup Final and beating an unfortunate Watford team by six goals to nil. Later on I could enjoy the crazy annual political manoeuvring that is the Eurovision Song Contest - again Britain finished last and barely managed a single point, while our Dutch friends romped away with the title. At least I felt I'd been entertained during my convalescence. Meanwhile the following day's appointment festered inside my brain, playing mind games. I'd already cancelled my stay with Colin in Saltash before heading over the bridge the next morning to take part in the annual half marathon in Plymouth, or Britain's Ocean City as it styles itself for these events. I'd told my friends I wasn't going. For the second year in three I'd developed a serious case of man flu twenty-four hours before the race. The previous time I'd succumbed I still ran, despite eating completely the wrong type of food (erm fish and chips actually) the night beforehand. It went badly and the picture of the red faced sweaty man hiding behind his mirrored running glasses and heading to his slowest ever finish time on the final strait tells the tale on its own. I wasn't going to put myself through that again.

So it will come as no surprise at all for you to read that at 5am the following morning I was in my car, readying myself for the sixty mile drive to Britain's Ocean City, for the frankly unreasonable 8:30am Sunday start. Quite what I was thinking of I'll never really know, but I have an unhealthy obsession with adding medals to the collection - I'd paid the entry fee and I wanted the bling, the goody bag and the finisher's shirt so that I could add them to the pile. I was armed with a bag of dates, which I'd recently discovered to be a magic ingredient. "What could go wrong?" I reasoned. Well frankly a lot could have gone wrong, but bizarrely the opposite happened and I knocked more than three minutes off my previous personal best - even more bizarrely on a hilly course where I'd never dreamed I could run such a time. I still can't explain what went right that day, but I'd never felt so strong, all the more odd after the previous day's indolence on the sofa. I think it was the dates; either that or there was an unknown ingredient in the Lemsip that would have a vastly more capable runner ejected from the Olympic Games.

Buoyed by my success I duly signed up for a fourth consecutive year despite the 8:30am start in a city 90 minutes drive away. This was some time in the back half of 2019, before the word "Covid" entered unpopular parlance; before the world stopped and everything you'd booked and paid for months in advance was cancelled. As I write I'm still waiting for three concerts and a holiday, all of which are now re-scheduled for the first half of 2022; all of which were supposed to happen in the first half of 2020. But you know that because you've got your own collection of postponements to attend at some point in the future,

Apart from the concerts and the holiday I'd also had to wait for the races I'd entered to take place twelve, eighteen or twenty-four months later, including Britain's Ocean City Half Marathon. But in the meantime my fitness had suffered without the benefit of regular exercise, and I'd got to the point where I wasn't sure that I could run thirteen miles at all, let alone in a time I'd be happy with. So when the event finally came and went on 5 September, I excused myself from the proceedings in favour of a lie in. Money down the drain, but at least I'd still be walking the following day.

And then I received an email, inviting me to run, jog or walk the distance at a more convenient time, with an end of October deadline. All I'd have to do is register, pay a delivery charge, submit the evidence that I'd actually done the distance in one go and I'd get the bling sent to me in the post. I couldn't resist. Today Ali and I put on our walking boots and pounded the thirteen and a bit miles along the local bike trail. She deserves a medal for putting up with me most of the time so I'll share this one with her.

And while I was at it, I thought I'd try out the new toy, the one they gave me when I retired last month - the Olympus underwater camera, that's likely to remain dry until next summer. It's even got RAW format files among the options. It's a while since I've used a point and shoot camera - remember when you used to get your fingers into the frame all the time? Yes I did that a lot - I'll learn hopefully.

I hope you all have a good weekend - I've got another postponed event tomorrow - a five mile obstacle course involving mud, mud and more mud - apart from the bit where we have to wade chest deep through a river and the bit where we have to crawl through a swamp under barbed wire that is. On Sunday I'm going to lie in a darkened room with the rest of that bottle of whisky.

Hymn To Life

The hair falling on your forehead

suddenly lifted.

Suddenly something stirred on the ground.

The trees are whispering

in the dark.

Your bare arms will be cold.

Far off

where we can't see,

the moon must be rising.

It hasn't reached us yet,

slipping through the leaves

to light up your shoulder.

But I know

a wind comes up with the moon.

The trees are whispering.

Your bare arms will be cold.

From above,

from the branches lost in the dark,

something dropped at your feet.

You moved closer to me.

Under my hand your bare flesh is like the fuzzy skin of a fruit.

Neither a song of the heart nor "common sense"--

before the trees, birds, and insects,

my hand on my wife's flesh

is thinking.

Tonight my hand

can't read or write.

Neither loving nor unloving...

It's the tongue of a leopard at a spring,

a grape leaf,

a wolf's paw.

To move, breathe, eat, drink.

My hand is like a seed

splitting open underground.

Neither a song of the heart nor "common sense,"

neither loving nor unloving.

My hand thinking on my wife's flesh

is the hand of the first man.

Like a root that finds water underground,

it says to me:

"To eat, drink, cold, hot, struggle, smell, color--

not to live in order to die

but to die to live..."

And now

as red female hair blows across my face,

as something stirs on the ground,

as the trees whisper in the dark,

and as the moon rises far off

where we can't see,

my hand on my wife's flesh

before the trees, birds, and insects,

I want the right of life,

of the leopard at the spring, of the seed splitting open--

I want the right of the first man.

Mini Formal Merida is standing next Queen Elinor. They turn towards each other and have a face to face discussion, or are they butting heads?

Formal Merida has a round face, with round deep blue eyes, thin pale pink lips in a smirk, freckles about her face, and a great mass of curly red-orange hair. Her hair is soft and resilient, except for a patch over her left forehead, and a couple of the curls on the right side. So hair product was used sparingly.

Her outfit consists of a full length teal satin gown with glittering gold hemline and sash. Her shoes are flat heeled and also teal in color. Her feet are not angled down as sharply as the usual Disney Princess mini doll, so they are more suitable for wearing flats. She has the usual mini doll joints: rotating joint in her neck and ball joints in her shoulders and hips.

Elinor has a very pretty, elegant face, long dark brown hair held in dual pony tails by gold threads, a green satin gown with gold trim and long bell shaped sleeves, golden crown with green disc, dark green flat shoes. Her feet are not angled down as sharply as the usual Disney Princess mini doll, which is more suitable for wearing flats.

Her joints the usual mini doll joints: Her head rotates 360 degrees, will maybe 5 degrees of play up or down or sideways. Her arms and hips are on ball joints that allow for 360 degrees of rotation and 30-45 degrees of motion up or down. Finally her rubbery legs have internal knee joints with 3 click stops, at about 20 degrees up and 20-40 degrees back.

The Brave mini dolls have been completely deboxed, and are displayed standing up. The three 5'' dolls are supported by small doll stands (not included with the dolls. The 1.5'' Triplet Princes have been stuck onto a sticky mat consisting of multiple layers of heavy packing tape to stand them up.

My first look at the Brave Mini Doll Set, 6 pieces. It was released by the Disney Store on Monday May 14, 2012 online and in stores, along with many other Brave merchandise. It's cost is $24.50 US. The set consists of Princess Merida in formal blue dress, Queen Elinor in green gown and crown, Princess Merida in adventure dark green dress, and the triplet princes in kilts. Merida and Elinor are 5'' tall, the princes are 1.5'' tall.

First I photographed the set in the unopened box. Then with the dolls taken out of the box, but still attached to the inner cardboard backing, which slides out of the box like a tray. Finally the dolls are completely removed from the box and all packaging restraints.

Pushkar is one of the oldest existing cities of India. It lies on the shore of the Pushkar Sarovar (Lake). The date of its actual origin is not known, but legend associates Brahma with its creation. The city has many temples and ghats and has people from all over the world coming here. It has flourishing market with loads of tourists and pilgrims. This old Sadhu I spotted in one such market. Thick gray eyebrows and mustache, stubble and wearing head scarf, he looked stern and gave a very angry look to me showing displeasure at being shot.

Australian Spotted Crake

Scientific Name: Porzana fluminea

Description: The adult Australian Spotted Crake is dark grey on its face, forehead, throat and chest. The crown of its head, the back of its neck and its upper parts are brownish olive, streaked black and finely spotted with white. Its lower flanks are black barred white, and the underside of its tail is white. It has an olive-green bill with an orange-red area at the bill's base. Its legs and feet are green to olive yellow. The female is similar to the male but duller with less contrast in its plumage colours. This bird is also known as the Australian, Spotted or Water Crake. The Australian Spotted Crake was first scientifically described by John Gould in 1843. The first part of its Latin name, Porzana, is a local (Venetian) name for the smaller crakes. Fluminea just means 'frequenting rivers'.

Similar species: Baillon's Crake, Porzana pusilla, is smaller but generally paler, with richer cinnamon-brown upper parts and a pale grey underbody. The underside of its tail is barred not white and it's call is quite different to that of the Australian Spotted Crake. The Spotless Crake, Porzana tabuensis, is also similar but it is darker and more uniform than the Australian Spotted Crake. The Spotless Crake also has barring on the underside of its tail and has pinkish or reddish legs. Again its call is quite different to the Australian Spotted Crake's. Lewin's Rail, Rallus pectoralis, can be distinguished from the Australian Spotted Crake by its reddish forehead and neck and its long, slender pinkish bill.

Distribution: The Australian Spotted Crake is mainly found in the south-east and the south-west of Australia. It is rare in Queensland. It is widespread in much of New South Wales away from the coast, in much of Victoria and in north-eastern South Australia. It is uncommon in Tasmania. In Western Australia it is found in the south-west and also in the Kimberleys. It is sparse or not found elsewhere in W.A. It is now probably common around Alice Springs also.

Habitat: The Australian Spotted Crake is found in the well-vegetated edges of wetlands, whether permanent or temporary, fresh or saltwater. It is usually found among dense growths of plants such as saltbush, reeds, rushes, mangroves, thick grass, or dense shrubs such as Bottle-brush (Callistemon) or Tea-tree (Melaleuca).

Seasonal movements: The Australian Spotted Crake does not appear to be a migratory species. They do appear in unusually large numbers at times, suddenly appearing and then departing. They can be abundant after heavy rains and floods.

Feeding: Australian Spotted Crakes eat seeds, molluscs, insects, crustaceans and spiders. They usually feed early or late in the day, on the ground. They forage on mudflats, and in reed beds. They will also wade in shallow water or swim probing underwater, oftening submerging their heads while doing this.

Breeding: Australian Spotted Crakes nest in swamps or lakes in a variety of vegetation types, such as rushes, grass, low shrubs and water-lilies. They may also nest on overhanging tree branches or on the ground. Nests are often in the centre of a clump of rushes. Some nests have a stage or track leading to them. Nests can vary from a flat, flimsy structure to a cup of fine, woven material, sometimes with a dome or with rushes interlaced over the nest. Nests are made of rushes or grass and lined with soft grass.

Calls: The Australian Spotted Crake most common call is a sharp, metallic double-note call. Other calls are a single-note call, descibed as querulous and given when the bird is disturbed from its nest; a chattering; and a prolonged wheezing note.

Minimum Size: 19cm

Maximum Size: 23cm

Average size: 21cm

Average weight: 60g

Breeding season: August - January, but late April recorded

Clutch Size: 3 - 6, usually 4 - 5

The Toddler Merida is outfitted with a blue satin dress with gold trim and a gold sash, long white stockings and blue shoes. She has a huge round head with a huge blue eyes with a hint of yellow around the pupils, freckles across her cheeks and up her nose to her forehead, thin lips in a sassy smirk, furrowed rusty red-orange eyebrows, topped with a massive head of red-orange curly hair.

I just bought all three different Merida dolls from my local Disney Store, on release day. They are the 16'' toddler ($24.50), 20'' plush ($19.50) and 11'' classic ($16.50).

The US Disney Store has just released (on Monday April 23, 2012) various merchandise, including poseable dolls, for Merida, the Scottish heroine of the upcoming animated feature Brave. They are available both online and in stores. The movie's premiere is on June 22 in the US.

Are you smacking your forehead for missing out on these truly spectacular roads by Luca Python of Blue Sky for FLF last week? Well, they are full price now at 990L.: but they are well worth it. As with everything he does, Luca has worked hard to give an impeccably textured and designed product for us to enjoy. Shown here are the cobblestone version of his roads (also available for 990L)_ Keep an eye out for more texture packs in the future, too! In the mean time, do yourself (and your sim) a favor and go pick these up!! ♥

The male Surf Scoter is a striking sight: black, with white patches on its forehead and nape, an oddly shaped and multicoloured bill, white eyes, and deep-orange legs and feet. The male's boldly patterned head is instantly recognizable even at a distance. Its large, strong, and colourful bill is no mere ornament — it is an efficient tool that allows this sea duck to pry marine shellfish off rocks as it feeds underwater. Spring is a wonderful time of the year. This is the moment when nature begins to awaken. During this period, the flora blooms, the first buds and leaves appear on the trees. A little later, most of the trees acquire a white color, being painted with snow-white, with a soft pink center, flowers. But have you ever thought about this time of year as a wonderful period for photo shoots? No? Then just imagine how you can capture yourself and your loved ones in a beautiful spring landscape.😉😁

Spring is also the time of many holidays. For example, you can arrange an interesting photo shoot in honor of Victory Day or the Day of Laughter.

Do you have any ideas for spring photo shoots? If so, feel free to share your ideas in the comments! I will read each of them with pleasure.😉😁

Unknown characters with light on their forehead slithering under the night. Common astrophotographer, often confused with the following: an obsessed mountain creature, a yeti, a ghost, a lost cop, or another creature active only at night. It features a yelling at clouds, seeing different beings and objects in the sky, long and boring talking about invisible things. It often talks in numbers and shortcuts, for example: set ISO 6400, aperture to 2.8, do not forget RAW and sRGB, 5780 Kelvins. In the wild, he is usually shy, characterized by poor integration with the female gender. He loves correct weather forecast, long nights, and feet in warm. Among his weaknesses belongs full moon, a forgotten card, a discharged battery, or foogy night. This was a brief characteristic of our kind.

Shimmer on Forehead of Petals

Towards the summits of the Borgustan ridge near Kislovodsk

They’re underneath your bed…running across your forehead…

While capturing this photo along the beaches of Ft. Pickens Florida this past March, I grinned ear to ear from the joy-filled memories of a night that included the Sand Crab. Memories of a night that brought a small band of misfit youths to nearly be arrested by four different police officers in four different locations. Cindy Lauper famously sang about how girls just want to have fun…and they do. Please know upfront that in this story I was merely the innocent host trying to show my future bride and cherished friends a good time. But then alcohol got involved…

It was the summer of 1984 when I got the call that my then fiancé Joann, and friends Terry and Nikki (Last names withheld due to possible statute of limitations issues) were making the drive from Jeffersonville Indiana to Charleston South Carolina to visit Mark and I. Unfortunately, Mark had duty the evening of their arrival, thus passing the hosting responsibility to a much younger John Dattilo…who’s hosting experience at the time consisted of asking if a guest would like a beer. So that is exactly what I asked when the ladies arrived after the 10-hour drive. A unanimous yes was received.

Officer encounter #1: Not having much money at the time, it was decided we would drive to the Charleston Air Force Base to buy the beer. It was worth the drive to save a buck or two but we also knew that historically, any rule broken while on base would result in tickets/arrest of visiting Navy personnel. We provided them the same courtesy if visiting our bases as well. Knowing that the USAF MPs keyed in on open containers, as host it was my responsibility to share this insight. Just as the warning was exiting my mouth, the distinctive sound of an ice-cold beverage being opened echoed from the back seat. In that same second, blue lights appeared in my rearview mirror. The front gate was in sight, we almost made it.

While providing all my credentials to the officer, I explained how the ladies were visiting from Indiana and we needed alcohol. I’m sure all three ladies were providing the saddest of eyes as an act of contrition as he inspected the inside of the car. A warning was offered (maybe the first ever received by a sailor) and my information was returned. Before departing he offered me that little grin that said…three girls, you squids (a term of endearment for a sailor) crack me up! We departed the base, feeling very lucky and heading for the beached of the Isle of Palms.

Officer encounter #2: Believing at the time that it was a sin to let cold beer get hot, our first stop after the base was to get ice for the cooler. Sitting in the parking lot of a roadside convenience store, I had just finished icing down the beer (a huge, time-honored responsibility of any good host) when a sheriffs car pulled alongside. Being over 21, I knew there was no problem this time. We spoke briefly as he passed between our cars. His kind southern smile instantly disappeared when he looked inside the car and viewed an open bottle of rum. For the second time in the last 20 minutes, I was handing an officer my license and registration.

For the next few minutes, the officer informed us of all the fines and penalties that he could impose. However, due to all four of us providing the saddest possible looks (Google “Cartoon Puss in Boots sad look” if interested in how we looked), he took the open rum bottle, provided us with a warning and sent us on our way. Driving from the parking lot we felt so lucky…having no idea that we were only half way there!

Officer encounter #3: At sunset we arrived safely at a remote area of the beach as far from any other people and officers of the law as possible. I remember caring the heavy cooler through the deep, loose sand…trying to be a good host…acting as if it wasn’t heavy. It was a cool evening as I also remember wearing a red hoodie with large white letters spelling out INDIANA…unknowingly, the hoodie would come back to haunt me in just a few hours!

We sat and consumed many beers that evening near the dunes. There may well have been some other harder libations consumed…this part is a blur. I know we took dozens of polaroid pictures, none with duck-lips as we were way too cool for such a pose! Pictures that I would pay heavily to have now and wonder if they may still exist. It was a very dark night, so a couple of flashlights were brought out. Within minutes we were chasing sand crabs up and down the beach…difficult to catch sober…impossible when not.

The movie Ghostbusters was a huge hit and apparently, we had all seen it as someone started calling us “Crabbusters” leading us to begin singing the song “They’re underneath your bed, running across your forehead…who are you goanna call…Crabbusters!!” What a great night it was, laughing so hard, I remember tears in my eyes as I knew this night would live in my memory forever.

We were less that a hundred yards away from the cooler, chasing crabs in all directions when the bright white lights way down the beach were noticed. So many lights and so bright, at first, I thought it was a UFO! We all stopped and stood silently in the darkness and it came closer and closer. I had no idea that the local police department had a beach patrol, we quickly learned that they did and what it looked like. The vehicle stopped by our cooler, now surrounded by empty beer cans and shined a side mounted spot light on all of our stuff. Without noticeable reaction, he turned off the side light and proceeded directly towards us. We quickly agreed to do the right thing and deny any knowledge of our mess.

As the officer came to a stop, he immediately asked it that was our cooler up near the dunes, and like a group of overly caffeinated chickens we all started telling him at the same time that it wasn’t ours…the most suspicious response we could have given. We then started telling him that we saw someone farther up the beach and it may be theirs. He seemed to be ok with the new information and slowly started driving away. It was then that one of our chickens took the lie to the next level, running next to the police car telling the officer that they were a mile or so up the beach. Without response, he immediacy made a U-turn, driving now strait back to the cooler. We all stood in shock as someone muttered the words…” oh no, the pictures!!”

To this day, the walk back to the cooler has been my longest. When we arrived, the officer was out of his car, squatted down next to the cooler with a flashlight in one hand and a fist full of polaroids in the other. We just stood there…all looking very sad with slumped shoulders…for the third time that evening. I’ll never forget seeing that man luminated face as he flipped to the next picture, one of me wearing the bright red hoodie…looking intently at the picture, then shining his flashlight into my chest and then back on the photo. A brilliant way to express the word gotcha!! It was then that the chorus of chickens returned, only this time expressing sorrow. As he stood up, he expressed how he didn’t appreciate being lied to (He would have died if he knew he was the third officer of the evening…but the first lie) and what we could be charged with. By the grace of God, we were granted a third warning and told to clean up our mess and go. It was decided that we should return to the safety of Marks apartment to continue the nights festivities.

It was an hour of the night that I rarely see anymore when we arrived back at Marks. Having great neighbors, we could have stayed in the apartment and continued the party as long as desired…that would have been the smart thing to do. Why start now with good decisions.

Officer encounter #4: The decision was made to go swimming in the complexes swimming pool…a pool that had been closed many hours before. Since we were on a first name basis with the manager, we authorized ourselves access. I thought we were being quiet, but I guess not since the police were there as if we call 911 ourselves. We were rounded up for a one-way discussion of the word trespassing, provided a fourth warning and told to conclude the party.

We decided to listen this time as the ladies were going to be visiting for a few more days and we needed to pace ourselves!

Since that night, now 37 years ago, sand crabs have always made me smile.

The wigeon is a medium-sized duck with a round head and small bill. The head and neck of the male are chestnut, with a yellow forehead, pink breast and grey body. In flight birds show white bellies and males have a large white wing patch.

Wigeons breed in central and northern Scotland and also in northern England. Many birds visit the UK in winter from Iceland, Scandinavia and Russia. With large numbers of wintering birds at a few UK sites, it is an Amber List species.

"Sandhill Crane Beach Gathering" by Patti Deters. A dance of seven (7) Sandhill Cranes gathers together on a sandy beach. The adult birds can be identified from the juveniles because of red on their forehead, so this could be a family group. Sandhill cranes live around 25 years in the wild and up to 80 years in captivity. Interesting fact: construction, sedge, siege, and swoop are other names for a flock of these prehistoric-looking waterfowl. his particular image is for sale at patti-deters.pixels.com/featured/sandhill-crane-beach-gat... Code is much larger and more muscular than the two ladies with whom he lives. But, the girls are the ones who want to protect their territory. I think Code would let me pet him if I could reach him.

Update June 2011: Look, I've stuck an enormous copyright sign on it. That's because I've actually sold the rights to this image for a while. Huzzah!

The light cost 5.99 from Thorns and I've already spent more that than on reflector bulbs by doing stupid things like this. Still, the cheap blue plastic is nice and shiny. Like my forehead.

Lampist: 1 plastic clip light swinging around a bit.

The end is the beginning

Part 1

I was going to ignore the small dot on my forehead, but I had a dream 3 nights in a row where I died – usually I take dreams metaphorically – so dying in a dream would signify a new beginning – not actual death – but when a dream persists, it can mean you are not addressing the situation. So I went to the doctor.

Dream (1 of 3 different ones).

I was in an office, large, open plan, plenty of light and activity – it was a lovely space, we all knew each other and there was a great atmosphere. Then the sky outside began to change, a deep beautiful grey turned dark, then green - outside became black with sparking lights.

An apocalyptic storm was approaching.

I thought I saw lights in the sky, inside the storm. As I watched, fascinated, the world around me turned into chaos. People running for the exits, others brandishing small curly tubes in their hands. The tubes glowed softly with points of soft blue light. They held them up and were lifted out of the building and began to fly off, over the storm, into the distance. Going somewhere a little more sunny and calm I thought.

I noticed that I too had one in my hand, it glowed beautifully.

A family friend emerged from the corner of the office. I’d not quite noticed before, but I think he’d always been there, watching me go through life, waiting for now. I felt detached and calm amid the panic around me.

He held out his hand, “come”, he said, “you are safe with me”.

Then we were flying up out of the building, the people scrambling in the office below seemed from another world. The city was in panic and I looked up and saw, he had a large tube of light, I sensed there was love and power. And I understood, I was leaving this world, I was going home.

Dream Ends.

Each time I awoke from a dream I was left with a strong sense of love, peace and acceptance– It felt like a guardian angel had come to take me home. So the dream cycle has made me experience the feeling of going home, not dying, and that in a way, is a great comfort.

Part 2

When I went to my doctor, my doctor didn’t know what to make of the small blue dot, so she called another doctor, who knew what to make of it. He suggested my doctor enlist the help of another doctor to help her remove it.

However, my doctor went away on holiday. When I tried to see another doctor instead of my doctor, I was told there was no other doctor other than my doctor who could see me. So two weeks later, I saw my doctor with another doctor, who took one look at it and said “oh, that’s not good. I can’t touch that, you’ll need to see yet another doctor, or should I say, surgeon for a biopsy”.

I made a few calls and got myself put on the urgent list for the biopsy. When I saw the surgeon he asked me why I was so worried about a perfectly concentric blue dot, as it’s the wrong shape and colour to be dangerous. All blue dots are benign, well, except in the rarest of cases.

I said “It’s a little inconvenient to die at the moment”, but I felt reassured by his certainty that all was well.

Dream 4

That night - I had a dream that I was backstage, in a dressing room – the make-up person was removing parts of my face and patching it back together again with paste – I got a little worried, but he told me not to worry – once he was finished I received the curtain call and went back on stage and saw myself performing under the lights. It was fun out there and I loved it.

End of Dream 4

Now I don’t base my entire life around dreams, but sometimes we are given a little help to set our minds mentally for the task ahead. My reading of this is that I will have some more time, but it’s going to be a long rough road.

Ah, alas, the reassuring surgeon was wrong, I am stage 3-B as it has metastasized into the lymph system. Survival odds, about 60% to make the next five years. I will make the best of it, and win, because I know if I don’t, my wife will kill me :-).

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Il valore di un uomo non si misura nei momenti di agio e benessere, ma in quelli dove affronta sfide e avversità.
