White-fronted bee-eater (Merops bullockoides) in the Africa Rock aviary, San Diego Zoo. These bee eaters have a distinctive white forehead, a square tail and a bright red/orange patch on their throat. They nest in small colonies, digging holes in cliffs or earthen banks. Conservation status: Least Concern
The "white-fronted" refers to the white patch on the forehead of this Goose. They are sometimes referred to as "speckle-belly".

Dark waterhen with white edges to the under tail. Bill and forehead shield are primarily red with a yellow tip. Juvenile and non-breeding adult may be confused with other species due to their less colorful bills, which may appear primarily dark. Occurs in a wide variety of wetland habitats and is a common sight in urban parks. Typically fairly vocal, produces a wide array of shrieking sounds. (eBird)

Seen occasionally. Based on the description above, I am glad we did not hear them "shrieking". There were plenty of other birds that liked to do that.

Noisy lapwing with a large yellow wattle across forehead and hanging over the bill. Two subspecies: southern “Black-shouldered” subspecies has a black shoulder band (not meeting in middle as on Banded Lapwing) and a larger black cap. Northern subspecies lacks black shoulder band and has a larger yellow wattle. Only “Black-shouldered” subspecies occurs in New Zealand. Abundant in most open country, being a common feature of urban parks, sporting fields, paddocks, riverbeds, wetlands, and coastal habitats. (eBird)

Emelia who walked the final path in the evening on Monday, 10th of august 2020, is survived by her husband. she finally succumbed to bone marrow cancer. at the final moments her husband never realized that she had started on her final journey as she had her eyes closed peacefully and a smile lingered on her lips.

There are isolated populations in: the Rocky Mountains, the northern prairies, the Great Lakes, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida. They winter in California's Central Valley and across the southern states from Arizona to Florida.

There was something about this Sadhu that got my attention while I was covering a vintage car rally in old Delhi. When I took his photo he raised his hand to give his blessing in typical Hindu style. His forehead covered with turmeric Tilak, turban adorns his head and face full of gray beard and mustache, eyes so intriguing. He stood there behind the railing like he only wanted to stop to give his blessings. He soon went his way with other Sadhus.

The tide is coming in making the branch in Long Nanny Burn, Beadnell Bay, Northumberland an even more precarious perch for this juvenile Common Tern. The Common Tern circling above with white forehead and black bill is probably enjoying its first summer.

The Full Buck Moon, July is normally the month when the new antlers of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It was also often called the Full Thunder Moon, for the reason that thunderstorms are most frequent during this time. Another name for this month’s Moon was the Full Hay Moon.

Distinctive stocky waterbird. Adult is dark gray overall with a white bill and forehead shield. Immature has a pale breast and a duller bill that becomes brighter white with age. When walking on shore, note big feet with lobed toes. Inhabits both freshwater and brackish marshes, lakeshores, and riverways; occasionally on saltwater. Breeding pairs aggressively territorial but nonbreeding flocks can number in hundreds. Unmistakable throughout much of range, but compare with very similar Red-knobbed Coot in areas of overlap. Calls are diverse, and include various high-pitched squeaks, squawks, and shorter, more clipped notes. (eBird)

I was not expecting to find out that the Eurasian Coot is a year-round resident of Australia. In fact, it has a huge range across Europe, Asia and Australasia. We saw them several times, but this was the only time one was close enough photograph.

This small grebe has beautiful golden tufts of feathers on its face, contrasting with its black head and neck. Its steep forehead makes its head look 'peaked'. A rare breeding bird, it is also uncommon in winter.
