Breeding males have obvious white blaze on forehead and broad green slash behind eye. Females are plainer brown with rusty sides. Females are very difficult to distinguish from female Eurasian Wigeon; note colder grayish-brown head on American that contrasts with warmer orangey sides. Also look for brighter white, not gray, underwings in flight, but this can be difficult to judge, especially at a distance. Widespread and common in North America, occasionally wintering as far south as northern South America. Typically in flocks on lakes and wetlands, often grazing in nearby fields. She is the smallest and most fierce of my cats (she can also be very lovable, on her terms, of course)! Birds from Texas to Honduras have a blue crown, dark eye, and relatively uniform lime-green body, and occur in small flocks in woodland with brushy understory. Birds in South America, sometimes called Inca Jays, occur in Andean cloud forest from Venezuela to Bolivia. They show a white crown, pale eye, blue forehead tuft, and rich sulphur-yellow belly contrasting with darker green upperparts. Both populations give a variety of strange mechanical calls. (eBird)

Conspicuous blue and black waterhen with gigantic red bill and forehead shield. Has large feet and white under tail feathers which it flicks up and down when walking. Occurs in a wide variety of wetland habitats and is a common sight in urban parks. They are very vocal, often making loud crowing calls and a range of other shorter squawks, including a single note squawk at night. (eBird)

Emelia who walked the final path in the evening on Monday, 10th of august 2020, is survived by her husband. she finally succumbed to bone marrow cancer. at the final moments her husband never realized that she had started on her final journey as she had her eyes closed peacefully and a smile lingered on her lips.

Posting this next to yesterdays Western Grebe as makes it easy to see the difference in Grebes. The Clark's Grebe the black crown ends above their eyes and their beaks are more orange, where the western Grebe black crest ends below their eyes.
Grebe chicks will ride on their parents backs for 2-4wks. I read the red patch on their forehead which is not often visible indicates they are hungry.
They were pretty far out in the water. This is a big crop.
Wikipedia: The racket-tailed treepie (Crypsirina temia) is an Asian treepie, a member of the crow family, Corvidae.
It has a velvety-black forehead of short, plush black feathers with the rest of the bird being an oily green color, though appearing black in dim light. The tail feathers which in this species are long and broaden at the tail's end are black also with a greenish tinge, as are the wings. The iris of the bird is a turquoise-blue darkening towards the pupil to a very deep or near black. The bill, legs and feet are black.
This bird occurs in southern Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, Indo-China, Sumatra, Java and Bali in scrub and secondary growth, open fields and gardens, bamboo thickets and open forest often near villages.

En France, le guêpier s'installe à proximité des cours d'eau dans des milieux assez ouverts mais contrairement à nombre d'oiseaux, il niche au sol, dans des talus de terre meuble ou artificielle. Il y creuse alors son nid avec son bec, progressivement usé, de sorte à offrir une cavité de 1 à 2 mètres de long. Près de 10kg de terre sont évacués du nid pour sa construction !

The coot grows 32 to 42 centimeters and weighs 585 to 1100 grams. The feathers are completely black, the beak and forehead shield are white and the eyes are red. The coot has large blue-green legs with splayed swim lobes. Both sexes have the same appearance.
The coot dives a lot, especially when looking for aquatic plants. He does not like to fly, but prefers to run on the water. Also when taking off from the water, a lot of running is done. However, in migration, which usually takes place at night, it can travel long distances.
The coot is an omnivore, which mainly feeds on aquatic plants, molluscs and aquatic insects. Seeds, grass and berries are also eaten. The coot is monogamous.
The nest is built on the waterfront from reed and water plants, but also from floating waste such as pieces of paper or plastic. In a nest, 5 to 10 gray-white to sand-colored eggs with brown-black spots and dots are hatched over a period of 21 to 25 days. In the Netherlands it is a general breeding bird - in 2015 there were 140,000 breeding pairs. The bird is also very common in Flanders. Outside the breeding season, large groups of migrants and winter guests occur. The coot is also called 'water chicken'.

Between 34 to 48 inches in length with a wingspan of nearly 7 feet. They are very tall with a long neck and long legs. Largely gray with a red forehead. Juveniles browner with no red on head. Plumage often appears a rusty color because of iron stains from water of ponds or marshes.
They inhabit large freshwater marshes, prairie ponds and marshy tundra. They are also on prairies and grain fields during migration and in winter.
They range from Siberia and Alaska east across arctic Canada to the Hudson Bay and south to western Ontario. There are isolated populations in the Rocky Mountians, northern prairies, and the Great Lakes region along with in Mississippi, Georgia and Florida. They winter in California's Central Valley and across the southern states from Arizona to Florida. They can also be found in Cuba.

There was something about this Sadhu that got my attention while I was covering a vintage car rally in old Delhi. When I took his photo he raised his hand to give his blessing in typical Hindu style. His forehead covered with turmeric Tilak, turban adorns his head and face full of gray beard and mustache, eyes so intriguing. He stood there behind the railing like he only wanted to stop to give his blessings. He soon went his way with other Sadhus.

The Full Buck Moon, July is normally the month when the new antlers of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It was also often called the Full Thunder Moon, for the reason that thunderstorms are most frequent during this time. Another name for this month’s Moon was the Full Hay Moon.

The thrush-sized warbler is one of the largest species of the former family, the Old World warblers and it stands as one of the largest species in the family Acrocephalidae. It measures 16–21 cm (6.3–8.3 in) in length, 25 to 30 cm (9.8 to 11.8 in) in wingspan and weighs 22 to 38 g (0.78 to 1.34 oz). The adult has unstreaked brown upperparts and dull buffish-white chin and underparts. The forehead is flattened, and the bill is strong and pointed. It looks very much like a giant Eurasian reed warbler (A. scirpaceus), but with a stronger supercilium.
The sexes are identical, as with most old world warblers, but young birds are richer buff below.
The warbler's song is very loud and far-carrying. The song's main phrase is a chattering and creaking carr-carr-cree-cree-cree-jet-jet, to which the whistles and vocal mimicry typical of marsh warblers are added.

The spiny seahorse (Hippocampus histrix), also referred to as the thorny seahorse, is a small marine fish in the family Syngnathidae, native to the Indo-Pacific area. It is classified as a Vulnerable species by the IUCN.
The spiny seahorse is a small fish that can reach a maximum length of 15–17 cm.
The body is slender, elongated and completely covered with thorns. These are sharp with dark tips, and uniformly sized on the prehensile tail. The trunk has long thorns which continue until the coronet, which has 4–5. The head is also provided with numerous spines especially on the forehead, the base of the cheeks, the nose and above the eyes. The snout is very long and tapered. Body coloration is highly variable to match surroundings and goes from grey to cream, and from bright yellow, to green or red and even brownish. In Greek mythology, Athena was believed to have been born from the forehead of her father Zeus. In some versions of the story, Athena has no mother and is born from Zeus' forehead by parthenogenesis. In others, such as Hesiod's Theogony, Zeus swallows his consort Metis, who was pregnant with Athena; in this version, Athena is first born within Zeus and then escapes from his body through his forehead. In the founding myth of Athens, Athena bested Poseidon in a competition over patronage of the city by creating the first olive tree. She was known as Athena Parthenos "Athena the Virgin," but in one archaic Attic myth, the god Hephaestus tried and failed to rape her, resulting in Gaia giving birth to Erichthonius, an important Athenian founding hero. Athena was the patron goddess of heroic endeavor; she was believed to have aided the heroes Perseus, Heracles, Bellerophon, and Jason. Along with Aphrodite and Hera, Athena was one of the three goddesses whose feud resulted in the beginning of the Trojan War.

The Yellow-throated brush finch ranges from Mexico to the mountains of W Colombia. All forms of this brush-finch have a white stripe down the midline of the crown from the forehead to the nape.
White-naped Brush-finches are found in subtropical to temperate elevations, from 1200 to 3100 m in elevation. They forage on the ground, often in family groups.

I thought I was seeing a Purple Gallinule on steroids, but the color was slightly off and the red forehead shield was more like the less colorful Common Gallinule. A park volunteer identified it as yet another Florida invasive species, the Gray-headed Swamp Hen (from Asia).
According to the Cornell Lab ("All About Birds"), this large, aggressive rail "escaped" captivity and has expanded its range beyond the south of Florida. In 2006-2008, 3187 swamp hens were culled by various Florida agencies, but it had no apparent effect on the population.
I photographed swamp hens in two locations, this one at Celery Fields, another at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Florida.
