On our trip to the Cotswolds in July, we had mostly good weather, but one Wednesday the forecast was for solid, steady rain all day. We could not get a taxi, so decided to make our way on foot with umbrellas from Moreton in Marsh to Chastleton House because we had seen it from a distance on our cycling trip earlier in the week and were intrigued. We had called ahead to the National Trust for timed tickets, which are essential for this property because only a specified number of visitors are admitted each hour. All of the National Trust volunteers were wonderful, and one local lady even saw us arriving on foot and generously offered to give us a ride back to our B&B at the end of the afternoon.

Photography is not allowed inside the house itself, which was built between 1607 and 1612, and remained essentially in the same family until 1991 when it was acquired by the National Trust. Each room has a volunteer on hand to explain and interpret the furnishings and contents. The Trust has tried to keep the house as close as possible to the way that it was when the Trust took over. One of the many historical details we learned was that the rules for croquet were first laid down here in 1886.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chastleton_House :

Chastleton House is a Jacobean country house situated at Chastleton near Moreton-in-Marsh, Oxfordshire, England (grid reference SP2429). It has been owned by the National Trust since 1991.

Chastleton House was built during the opening years of the 17th century for the wealthy wool merchant, Walter Jones. The house is built of Cotswold stone, round a courtyard.

The inside of the house is complex and quite bewildering as there are a great many rooms, the foremost of which are the Great Hall, with its ornately carved wooden screen, and the first floor's Great Chamber, with its ornate panelling and plaster ceiling. Most of the furniture is contemporary with the house being in situ since its completion.

the forecast for Albuquerque looks a lot better than for LA... that was not quite the plan.

still I guess it could have been worse.

Eugene started the week with nearly a foot of snow - a rarity there. It would be really really really nice if it were mostly gone when we ride there Monday. Three days of mid-40 degree weather will probably take care of that.

Circa 1950's...

It's been a while since a sunrise seemed to merit a walk to the dock...however, I've learned this to be a seasonal phenomenon, the most brilliant arising in autumn and winter. This morning, a long, thin line of red announcing the arrival of the sun, and memories of what might develop from such, encouraged the trip, tho it proved to be short-lived, conceding to the clouds rather quickly. Nevertheless, worthwhile...and I believe there is still a sunrise every day, nay?

I haven't done one of these for months. It's 87'F here at the moment. We're under a severe thunderstorm watch, this should be fun!

The forecast was not that good for today from the off but leaving work on the drive home I was convinced that, as usual these days the BBC forecast was wrong. The cloudy start was not going to be and so I went out for this. Its usual early departure from Barnt Green was to happen so I got into place here to find that, probably because I was ready for it this time, it was held to time at Stoke Works Jn. The sun as a result was a little more 'head on' than desired but it is still an acceptable shot in my opinion.

A rekky was required ahead of doing this shot because the last time I did this it was from the embankment near to the bridge. This time I needed my ladders and took it from the field to cut out the shadows.

WEST YELLOWSTONE, MT -- Snow surveyors with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and other cooperating agencies learn snow sampling techniques, cold weather survival, avalanche and snow mobile skills during USDA's annual Westwide Snow Survey Training, March 11-16, 2018.

The course is offered to snow surveyors who collect snowpack data at hundreds of sites across 12 Western states, including Alaska. As part of its Snow Survey and Water Supply Forecasting program, NRCS operates and maintains an extensive network of automated snow telemetry (SNOTEL) sites and manual snow courses throughout the West. The data collected at those sites are used by the NRCS National Water and Climate Center (NWCC) to generate a variety of forecasting products—including detailed streamflow forecasts for the spring and summer.

Because the vast majority of the water supply in the West comes from snowmelt, these forecasts are critical in helping agricultural producers and communities plan ahead and make informed decisions related to their spring and summer water supply. While the forecasts are primarily produced for agricultural use to help farmers, ranchers and irrigators plan their water use, a variety of other stakeholders rely on these forecasts for operating hydropower generation, reservoir management, fish habitats, and outdoor recreation.

Here's the final shot of the completed forecast painting.

I'm just hoping that this light bulb thing is not going to become an obsession because they are a pain to cut the stencils.
