-- I stopped for a break but I fear I took too long, trusted the weather too much, expected to come out to clear skies. As I walk out i'm confronted with a beautiful sunset but looming clouds overhead that tell a different story. My heart skips a beat as I rush back to my journey hoping that I can beat the tempest brewing. But it's clear I will not, my skin crawls with the thought of the storm to come as I look up and realize that today comes with a dark forecast.--

I had a quick look at our weather and as you can see we are in for a cold Saturday and a snowy Sunday, we are above 1000m so it's going to snow here right in Oberon, I have to see it to believe it. It sure would be nice if it did, Photo opportunities.
this flower is so tenacious. the leaves have all fallen off the trees, there is frost on our windshields in the morning and some very chilly days, but here she is. hanging on
So after making the extra effort to triple-check the weather forecast for our preferred Perseid location we still got clouded over, but I refused to give up on the shower.
I pointed my camera at the shower radiant and hoped some meteors would be bright enough to shine past the nearly full moon and cloud cover... and I was rewarded with this nifty Perseid image that is quite a bit different than the usual fair. I guess it just goes to show the old lemons to lemonade adage applies to photography too!
Shot Notes: 642 shots at 19 mm, F/5.6, 13 seconds, 2000 ISO, and this was the only meteor I caught! ;-)))
I used the image with the most moonlight on the foreground to lighten it in the meteor frame and used a bit of light painting on the dead tree. Agonized over cropping off a sizable portion of the top, but decided to post un-cropped. Thoughts?
This was taken at the summit of Mt. Crested Butte. I really like how it loos like a beautiful day on one side and pouring rain on the other!

Bird migration forecast maps show predicted nocturnal migration 3 hours after local sunset and are updated every 6 hours. Colorado State University and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology currently produce these forecasts.
This is a bar and PMU ) where you can make some forecast with horses race. It is often the opportunity have a drink and as you can see the typic French bred called "baguette" is present on the table because you play forecast at the end of morning and people use to buy their bred for the lunch at this time too.
Have been attrative bu this man with the hat and concentrated reading the forecast in the newpaper. This scenery is usuel in France on Sunday at the end of the morning, it is why you can see the bred bought for lunch.
Was there too drinking a glass of white wine called "muscadet", have made my forecast but I have lost :-(

The weather forecast segment of CBC's (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) daily Toronto evening news is hosted by weatherman Jay Scotland. Recently he has asked viewers to submit weather-related photos to be posted during the nightly news. If the photo is selected, the photographer's name would be put into a lucky draw for some CBC souvenirs.
During a recent photowalk with flickr friend Will and Ipernity friend John, I took a photo of the foggy High Park. After I got home, I thought perhaps I can try my luck on the competition.
Well, don't ask me why, tonight I had a hunch that my photo might show up, so I set up camera just in case. Well, my sixth sense was right!
There was a brief interruption, and a click, in the middle of the video, as I also wanted to take a photo in case the video doesn't turn out. My camera allows a photo to be taken during the video-recording.

Fall migration runs from approximately 1 August to 30 November (though some species migrate earlier and later than this window) in the contiguous U.S. So we are well into fall migration. The cloudy, rainy weather in Oklahoma will put a damper on night navigation for the coming week, but when the sun comes out, and the nights are clear with a north breeze, be ready. Well I was shooting fall colors in Zion National PArk when I saw that they had forecast snow for Bryce Canyon, so instead of heading back to LA, I headed out to Bryce Canyon! And I was treated to snow, sun, clouds, snowstorm, and then a glorious sunrise over the s-capped hoo-doos in Bryce! :)

Epic Zion winter snowstorm!
The forecast was for a warm day, highs of -2° C, and lots of wind. But somehow we dodged the bullet in the wind department and had a fine snowshoe. It's called Horton Hill because Tim Hortons has a summer camp at the base of this prominence, on the other side from where we were exploring. We had had a good dump of snow, likely more than 2 ft / 70 cm's, which made the snowshoeing good.
The weather forecast was iffy, and we considered hiking another day. THANK GOODNESS we went, because it was a perfect day's hike: not too hot, not too cold; a little breeze to keep things fresh; and a trail with snow nicely packed down, but not icy. It was a bit unusual for us, because we could see from the cloud movement there were big winds afoot, but this time, they were from the north, and we were completely sheltered from them the entire hike. An odd thing happened as well. Early, we met a fellow descending on a mountain bike. He looked a little worried, because he lost track of his dog Cypress. When we returned to the trailhead, we saw that his car was gone, so we're assuming there was a happy ending to his story. Total return distance, 7.4 km's, total elevation gain, 706 m's, moving time, 2 hrs, 27 minutes; total time, 3 hrs, 17 minutes.

Extreme Cold Warning 😢issued at Thu 4:39 AM 11 Jan. 2024. "The latest forecast issues a bold warning for Calgary, Alberta, anticipating temperatures not seen since January 24th, 1954. Friday, 12 January 2024, is poised to become one of the coldest days in recent memory across Alberta, as models project daytime highs struggling to surpass -30°C." The Weather Network.
After a few weeks of amazing, mild winter weather and only three or four snowfalls, we had a drastic change of weather a few nights ago. Everywhere is covered in snow, with maybe 3" or 4" along the top of my fence. So thankful I have the luxury of being able to stay home. More snow tonight and the next two days. We have plunged into very cold weather. Late this evening, the temperature is -24°C (FEELS LIKE -36°C). Forecast for 12 January is -31°C (FEELS LIKE -41°C).

"After two whole weeks of not getting a chance to go anywhere, including looking for Snowy Owls, I finally drove SE of the city yesterday, 13 December 2016, for a few hours. The weather had warmed up a little, after we had been getting windchills down as low as -34C. I just don't see the point of risking getting stuck along some country backroad during a deep-freeze. As it was, I did have a few minutes of panic when I couldn't get my car to start after getting out to take a few photos. The message on the start button said "Power is on", yet it would not do anything. When I pushed the button again, all the usual things came on, but the car still wouldn't drive. Eventually, after quite a few tries, I did get it to work, to my enormous relief.
My whole drive was along roads that I had driven before, some only once. Last winter, I had driven part of this area and saw several Snowy Owls, but they were no more than the tiniest white specks in the distance. In fact, during the winter of 2015/2016, I didn't see a single Snowy up close anywhere.
For most of yesterday's drive, I didn't see any, but then my luck changed, and I ended up seeing the owl in this photo, plus another one. After driving quite a few backroads, I spotted this first one along a main road; the second owl was along a backroad.and further away. My fully zoomed photos of both owls are still not close. Unfortunately, I was not the only one to find this owl - a large flock of 50 or 60 Snow Buntings had also spotted it and were harassing it, making it fly off before I got the chance to get better photos.
After stopping to watch this first owl, I went back to the side roads, where I came across the second owl, perched on top of a tall power pole. Though it was a long way down the road, it flew a few seconds later, landing near the top of a huge, bare tree that was even further away. I've only ever seen a Snowy in a tree a few times.
"The regal Snowy Owl is one of the few birds that can get even non-birders to come out for a look. This largest (by weight) North American owl shows up irregularly in winter to hunt in windswept fields or dunes, a pale shape with catlike yellow eyes. They spend summers far north of the Arctic Circle hunting lemmings, ptarmigan, and other prey in 24-hour daylight. In years of lemming population booms they can raise double or triple the usual number of young." From Cornell's AllAboutBirds.

Feeling happy to have found two of these gorgeous birds, I decided to drive to see two favourite old things - the little country church at Dinton, and one of my favourite barns. I love photographing these old structures. Actually, the tiny church in Dinton was also used in a movie - Brokeback Mountain.
Happy with my findings, it was time to start on my homeward journey, as I didn't want to be on the main highway in the dark. There was just time for me to call in quickly at the Saskatoon Farm, only to find that the restaurant had closed about 20 minutes early, so I was out of luck for my usual Quiche and Sweet Potato fries. Saskatoon Pie was still available, which nicely filled the void, having missed my lunch. A cup of coffee came in handy for my drive home, too."
I modified Stefanie Japel's Forecast pattern quite a bit to make this cardigan. I used cables from Elsebeth Lavold's Viking Knits, and changed the background from garter to reverse stockinette.
