Yet another shot from the DDO, when it was time to look through the telescope the lights got turned out, except for red-lights that don't affect your night-vision. The way they illuminated the telescope made for some really unique shots.

Our new idea for 2025 is showcasing Fashion Forecasts for the year - January is a cooler time with the deep winter in our Eastern states so time to cozy up with a wool coat and hat for all the winter time fun.
Mei is sporting this latest matching coat and hat that has a wonderful retro feel. Anything goes in the fashion world of the 21 century!
With the colds of winter it's also fun to sport brighter colors and Mei is matching with our fun Amaryllis that just started blooming.

I saw this aurora right outside my hotel in Kaktovic. I almost missed it! I checked the short term aurora forecast right before going to bed and it showed a 0 out of 9 on the Kp scale. Just to humor myself, I looked out my window and saw what looked like glowing clouds on the horizon. As I watched, I noticed that light was flickering and moving - I knew it had to be the aurora! One of the nice things about being this far North, is you can see the aurora even when there is hardly any solar activity. This is probably one of the few times I'll photograph the aurora while facing south. There was a half moon that night which you can see starting to encroach on the left side of the image. The tracks you see in the snow are polar bear tracks.

Well I was shooting fall colors in Zion National PArk when I saw that they had forecast snow for Bryce Canyon, so instead of heading back to LA, I headed out to Bryce Canyon! And I was treated to snow, sun, clouds, snowstorm, and then a glorious sunrise over the s-capped hoo-doos in Bryce! :)

A cold week ahead in Wisconsin, USA.
-- I stopped for a break but I fear I took too long, trusted the weather too much, expected to come out to clear skies. As I walk out i'm confronted with a beautiful sunset but looming clouds overhead that tell a different story. My heart skips a beat as I rush back to my journey hoping that I can beat the tempest brewing. But it's clear I will not, my skin crawls with the thought of the storm to come as I look up and realize that today comes with a dark forecast.--

My final shot from yesterday (15 August 2018) was taken from Llanstephan beach looking across the Afon Tywi to Ferryside in Carmarthenshire; unfortunately, the weather was getting worse with the forecasted rain arriving a number of hours earlier than I would have wanted. The light was failing, I had to use an ISO of 1600 and to get the image I wanted, a fairly substantial crop was required and this took more processing than I would have liked, therefore, this image is quite noisy. Perhaps I will try again if we are fortunate to have a sunny afternoon and I am available!
Putting all those negative comments aside, I think that this is an interesting image, the tide was out and parked on the beach may be seen a number of 4 X 4s with boat trailers attached, I hope that the owners returned before the tide did! The section of line featured here is about 100 yards south of the delightful Ferryside station and behind is part of the village. As luck would have it two trains passed here, the Class 175 is working 1W20, the 15.10 Milford Haven to Manchester Piccadilly and the 158 (fairly unusual in this part of Wales) had charge of 1V40, the 11.30 Manchester Piccadilly to Carmarthen.
At first, the weather forecast for the OFT-2 Starliner launch was at a 40% probability of favorable conditions. Even when it improved to 50%, it still seemed most likely that at the scheduled launch time of 2:53 pm on Friday, storms would be in the area.
What would end up scrubbing the launch was much less predictable than Florida summer weather. As we were waiting at the gate to LC-41, the MLM that had just docked at the International Space Station fired its thrusters. This was entirely unplanned, and the Space Station began to pitch about .5 degrees per second. To counteract the thrust from the MLM, station controllers fired engines on the Service Module and later the Progress spacecraft. Mission Control would describe this as a "tug-of-war" as they attempted to maintain attitude control. Eventually, the MLM ran out of fuel, and the engines shut down, and ultimately, attitude control was restored.
There's lots of good reporting on today's events, so I won't go into greater detail, but I'll say here that the men and women of the ISS program are badasses for how they handled themselves today.
It was odd following along while sitting a few hundred feet from the Starliner, what was supposed to be the next scheduled spacecraft to dock with the Space Station. Ultimately, it was decided not to send another spacecraft to station until the team knows more about what happened today, so tomorrow's launch was scrubbed.
The next option for launch is August 3 at 1:20 pm.

In November 2005 weather forecast was fine for the eastern alps so I decided to go to the beautiful mountains of Hohe Tauern over a weekend. At this time of the year, you must not be afraid of crowded mountains. Quite the opposite, I never met another person when I was hiking there.
My first impressions where the nice autumnal colours when I was driving in the Großglockner region. I had to stop and take some shots with the Mamiya 7 on Fuji Velvia. I'm pleased with the results and the first reactions after uploading the picture indicate that some of you are pleased too, what is a real joy for me.

A cool northerly wind is driving our daytime highs to unseasonable lows on a grey overcast Monday morning following the passing of another big low pressure system. Temperatures overnight will dip to a possible record low of 46F.
All this after a rainy Sunday night, our first rain in over a month as a burn ban continues.
Normal averages are said to be 88F for a high & a low of 57F!
The forecast promised snow all day. Thankfully it didn't materialise as I don't like the rascals missing Mondays, their only full day at school, the car needed to go to the garage, and i had a governor-type school meeting. The school budget is shockingly tiny, and isn't helped by EU imposed regulations

Once again the forecasters made a complete hash of it, with no hint of any sun forecast today and it was sunny here all morning and half the afternoon in the end!!
In some welcome crisp winter light 'Lord Nelson' still looks very tidy after almost four weeks in traffic now since returning from it's repaint. Let's just hope Crown Point can continue to keep it up!

The forecast was for a lot of lovely sunshine today, but actually not much. This little chiffchaff brightened my walk (easy social distancing) and I watched it flit around and sing for quite a while.
BIG! • waddya do when it's rainy and you just watched a depressing movie? A funky shot! So here, lot's of makeup, crazy hair, wear a piece of fabric and create a little fake wind. Taaadaaa!
Alright. Actually, I'm pretty bummed 'cause I'm suppose to have a shoot tomorrow at that fab location, but rain is in the forecast so I think will put a raincheck on that (hehe, see what I did there?)
Er... Ya... *ahem* that's all.
My favorite sunrises are by far the colorful ones, but even though this morning was virtually guaranteed to be cloudy and likely rainy, I got up early because I wanted to see if there might be some magic in the clouds. Besides, I had the photo club meeting at 10am so I figured I might as well make the most of the morning.
It started with a 5 minute drive down to the shore to see what it was like over the bay. Right away I noticed it was pretty windy, with consistent waves and spray blowing on the beach. And rather than a flat gray sky there were distinct patches of darker and lighter gray...perfect for picking up the patterns in long exposures.
So I quickly got back in the car and took the back roads up to one of my favorite early morning beach locations, Brownie's Beach (also called Bayfront Park), just south of Chesapeake Beach, MD. The waves weren't very large but they were non-stop, producing a significant froth and spray that required constant attention to ensure my camera didn't get wet with salty mist.
I tried shooting in several different locations and may post some of the other photos later but this was the last spot I settled on. It's actually the last shot I took before leaving the beach.
