what does our friend the wooly bear caterpillar ( larval stage of the Pyrrharctia isabella ) tell us about the upcoming winter? according to the farmer’s almanac the caterpillar’s relatively narrow brown band ( it’s hard to tell from this angle that’s narrow ) means we’ll get heavier than normal snow and its not particularly fat or fuzzy which means we’ll have a relatively mild winter in terms of temperature. so, snowy but not too cold. sounds perfect!

we’ll check back in the spring and see how accurate a forecaster our wooly bear caterpillar friend was.

It was to be sunny and dry and later in the day that did happen but the morning was cold and dull.

It was in 2011, in south India, a few days after Christmas. Thane initially developed as a tropical disturbance, it rapidly became a Cyclonic Storm and then a "Very Severe Cyclonic storm. The information on television or meteo forecast mentioned winds around 50 km/h, but they were wrong, it went to 165 km/h !! 400 000 trees has fallen in Pondicherry.

The Thane cyclone was one of the most dangerous cyclones in indian history.

-- I stopped for a break but I fear I took too long, trusted the weather too much, expected to come out to clear skies. As I walk out i'm confronted with a beautiful sunset but looming clouds overhead that tell a different story. My heart skips a beat as I rush back to my journey hoping that I can beat the tempest brewing. But it's clear I will not, my skin crawls with the thought of the storm to come as I look up and realize that today comes with a dark forecast.--

At first, the weather forecast for the OFT-2 Starliner launch was at a 40% probability of favorable conditions. Even when it improved to 50%, it still seemed most likely that at the scheduled launch time of 2:53 pm on Friday, storms would be in the area.

What would end up scrubbing the launch was much less predictable than Florida summer weather. As we were waiting at the gate to LC-41, the MLM that had just docked at the International Space Station fired its thrusters. This was entirely unplanned, and the Space Station began to pitch about .5 degrees per second. To counteract the thrust from the MLM, station controllers fired engines on the Service Module and later the Progress spacecraft. Mission Control would describe this as a "tug-of-war" as they attempted to maintain attitude control. Eventually, the MLM ran out of fuel, and the engines shut down, and ultimately, attitude control was restored.

There's lots of good reporting on today's events, so I won't go into greater detail, but I'll say here that the men and women of the ISS program are badasses for how they handled themselves today.

It was odd following along while sitting a few hundred feet from the Starliner, what was supposed to be the next scheduled spacecraft to dock with the Space Station. Ultimately, it was decided not to send another spacecraft to station until the team knows more about what happened today, so tomorrow's launch was scrubbed.

The next option for launch is August 3 at 1:20 pm.

Another dodgy weather forecast but desperate to be out, I decided to do a short (4 miles) walk between Great Rollright and Hook Norton.

Getting off the bus I decided to do a mile detour to a favourite viewpoint and found this group of lovelies in the way straddling the footpath. I gingerly fished my camera out of the rucksack to get a shot and despite giving them a fairly wide berth, one decided to follow me at quite a trot, and had nearly caught up before deciding I wasn't worth the effort. Got to the view but it was disappointingly flat and grey but blue sky on the way. Then I had to cross the field again to resume my walk. Luckily on the return trip they ignored me.

That clearing didn't last long so we hustled down to the pier for our morning constitutional.

The forecast promised snow all day. Thankfully it didn't materialise as I don't like the rascals missing Mondays, their only full day at school, the car needed to go to the garage, and i had a governor-type school meeting. The school budget is shockingly tiny, and isn't helped by EU imposed regulations

Weather Underground Forecast

Whew! It's hot outside already coupled with the humidity it's really going to get uncomfortable. We have very little air pollution in this area. Makes me happy that our air quality is always good here otherwise it would feel more like it was in triple digits!

The forecast was for a very pleasant afternoon in mid-March so we set up a small group shoot at a parking garage in downtown Boise. The weatherman lied. It was bitterly cold, windy, and then it snowed a bit. The poor models froze but toughed it out.

Sammy is a real trooper - she is definitely petite but full of adventure. She was shivering almost the whole shoot but never complained - and she looked beautiful doing it. I love shooting with her and we just click. The cool thing about this shoot was right at the end Sammy was so cold she grabbed her dog blanket for the car and we made it work - and it kept her warm. Life is good!

Forecast isn't too bad for tomorrow, no work on the immediate horizon, light rain clearing to give sunny spells. Think I might have to head out for a walk with the dog.

Oh, hang on a minute, I don't have a dog....

We were iffy about going, because the initial wind forecast was for steady winds of 17 km / hr, with gusts of up to 50. But we thought the day was too nice to waste. There were breezes and gusts, but not what they had predicted. This 7 km return distance scramble up Wasootch mountain, where we gained about 900 m's, took us 4 hours.

this flower is so tenacious. the leaves have all fallen off the trees, there is frost on our windshields in the morning and some very chilly days, but here she is. hanging on

I had a quick look at our weather and as you can see we are in for a cold Saturday and a snowy Sunday, we are above 1000m so it's going to snow here right in Oberon, I have to see it to believe it. It sure would be nice if it did, Photo opportunities.

BIG! • waddya do when it's rainy and you just watched a depressing movie? A funky shot! So here, lot's of makeup, crazy hair, wear a piece of fabric and create a little fake wind. Taaadaaa!

Alright. Actually, I'm pretty bummed 'cause I'm suppose to have a shoot tomorrow at that fab location, but rain is in the forecast so I think will put a raincheck on that (hehe, see what I did there?)

Er... Ya... *ahem* that's all.

A weekly forecast with a chance of rain every day doesn’t have to mean dressing in head-to-toe rain gear or putting away the bike until the sun comes back out. Between the showers is the perfect time to get a quick ride in, for errands or for fun, as long as you prepare for puddles and occasional sprinkles. A short trench coat covers the sprinkles, and tall boots and cropped pants protect from the puddles of dirty water. The sunny attitude about risking getting a little damp is completely up to you.

This is a bar and PMU ) where you can make some forecast with horses race. It is often the opportunity have a drink and as you can see the typic French bred called "baguette" is present on the table because you play forecast at the end of morning and people use to buy their bred for the lunch at this time too.

Have been attrative bu this man with the hat and concentrated reading the forecast in the newpaper. This scenery is usuel in France on Sunday at the end of the morning, it is why you can see the bred bought for lunch.
