An unusual sighting for the area. This Australian Ringneck Parrot was seen at Mt Macedon yesterday.
Shot in the rain and gale force winds with the 300 mm lens. My preferred birding lens was at hand but I wasn't going to change lens in those conditions.

Here in NSW, Australia we have been declared 100% in drought. This drought is very serious and shouldn't be taken lightly. The farmers have no grass only dust, their animals are starving to death or have died, young animals are vunerable because their Mums have died or are too weak to feed them. Hay is in shortage, this is a huge problem. Hay has been transported from Western Australia and Tasmania but this hay will only last about a week. The biggest heartache of this drought is the suicide rate in farmers. They just can't take anymore.
Here in Newcastle a man had a dream to take a truckload of goods to farmers In Coonabarabran. That dream became huge. About $80k worth, over 200 pallets of goods, and over 100 people helping him. 8 semi-trailer loads drove to Coonabarabran and visited 12 remote areas. The farmers are doing it real tough...they cried 😢 when they saw what had been donated.
I organised donations through my work and we took two car loads to the park where it was all collected. I stayed all morning photographing, watching the huge response.
One mans dream became a reality. Look it up up Facebook "Fill a truck for farmers".

2019-09-02, Day 1
Crow Lake catches noon-day sun beneath towering cliffs that reach up to a high-elevation plateau, Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, Montana.
At this point we had been hiking for almost 4 hours on our first day and the terrain conspired to teach us in no uncertain terms that we had severely underestimated its ruggedness. In a fit of questionable planning, the point where I stand is the end of the established trail in this direction, and also where we decided it would be a good idea to chart our own middle-aged course through the forest, up the drainage, and over an unnamed pass to the south. The benefits we anticipated included a general lack of company, spectacular scenery, and a considerable short-cut compared to the route the trail followed.
As the forest to the left of the frame suggests, it is healthy and full of interlocking branches and downed logs. As one might imagine, travel through its fastness is only grudgingly allowed. As I inspect my pack some months later, I am still finding needles lodged in every crevice. Fortunately, it is difficult to truly get lost in terrain like this, as the drainage provides a sort of topographic braille through which we felt our way ever upward away from the lake and toward the treeless heights. The final approach to the pass was steep, probably around 35 degrees, and we paused occasionally for breath and to feel the body humming perceptibly with exertion. Yes, next time more care will be taken in the physical preparation department...

While I was down at the estuary and Mini Marina last Sunday I found these delightful stairs going up to a very posh house.
Although I don't like stairs without risers I think I could manage these, especially as they have a good handrail and safety bars too.
Much better viewed large.
Thank you for your favourites. :O)
A very attractive house with a double staircase entryway. Posh or what?!!

Gweek (Cornish for forest village) is at the head of navigation of the Helford River, about three miles east of Helston in the west of Cornwall. It has been a port since Roman times and was a thriving port in the Tudor period with its own Customs House. During the mining boom, a tin-smelting blowing house operated at the quayside. In 1848 it was reported that: "The pilchard-fishery is carried on extensively, 200 boats being employed in taking the fish, which are cured in the various creeks and coves within the limits of the port. In addition to the fishery, the chief trade consists in the exportation of copper-ore, corn, moorstone (presumably granite), and oysters, and the importation of timber, coal, and limestone." Gweek is home to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, which attracts tens of thousands of visitors. More than forty grey seal pups are rescued each year. The aim is to release them back into the wild having given them the best chance of survival.

Outside of Washington DC's Union Station you can always see long lines of taxis waiting for fares. Back in my college days, I drove a taxi so I can understand how hard these cabbies work. They put in very long hours doing what can sometimes be a dangerous and thankless job. The next time you ride in a taxi, please tip your driver generously. They really deserve it!

A homework assignment for a photo/writing class that I'm currently taking. We had to create an image to compliment (not illustrate) a poem written by someone else. I made this photo to go with the following poem:
Perpetual Spring by Amy Gerstler
Gardens are also good places
to sulk. You pass beds of
spiky voodoo lilies
and trip over the roots
of a sweet gum tree,
in search of medieval
plants whose leaves,
when they drop off
turn into birds
if they fall on land,
and into colored carp if they
plop into water.
Suddenly the archetypal
human desire for peace
wells up in you. The lion
and the lamb cuddling up.
The snake and the snail, kissing,
Even the prick of the thistle,
Queen of weeds, revives
your secret belief
in perpetual spring,
your faith that for every hurt
there's a leaf to cure it.
SPROUT makes a break for it down my laptop screen earlier than usual in the season. I used a Lightroom Preset in this to flatten it out a bit,
For the one I love.
Lovely mini-roses.
So sweet and beautiful.
Have a wonderful day, filled with love and thank you for your visit, M, (*_*)

Hey everyone, here’s a vignette that’s been sitting on my desk for months and I finally found the motivation to finish it. It’s nothing too interesting but I had fun making the figures.
For Sliders Sunday
A quick fun snapshot taken at the Botanical Garden this spring. I walked around, noticed some motion on the surface of one of the ponds there, and saw this small shoal of small fish flocking together in a heart shape. They were being fed at that moment, I guess.
I had forgotten that the camera's aspect ratio was still set to 1:1 (there's a dial for the different aspect ratios on the fixed lens), so here 1:1 was more of an accident than actually intended (as was f14). Usually I won't use the preset 1:1 aspect ratio because the Lumix's 12.8 megapixels will be reduced to 10 megapixels then (it's got something to do with the LX100's "multi format sensor", apparently), but unlike with my OM-D, where I only ever use 4:3, and crop the image later in LR, if desired, I often switch between 4:3 and 16:9 on the Lumix.
Processed in LR and Luminar. The water had been very muddy and dull, so I thought that this needed some colour to jazz it up a little. I don't recall each step, as this is an image I've been working on from time to time. But as a finishing touch I used a slightly tweaked Luminar preset, one of Wim Arys' "Atomic Colours", Bismuth, if I remember correctly. Added a sky texture in ON1, too.
A Happy Sliders Sunday to you all!

My mother always loved her garden and her flowers and plants. She had a green thumb.

Sagres, Praia de Tonel, Elmarit 28mm.
Praia do Tonel is popular with surfers as it offers a brisk-westerly wind that often produces large Atlantic breakers. Also nice for sunbathing etc. because of the sheltered spots back towards the cliffs.
Thanks for all your visits, comments and invites on my previous photos and for all the support and friendship in the past "Flickr year", much appreciated!
For Sale at Amerhidl (Skoura oasis) ! (needs some work)
The oasis of Skoura's claim to fame is its long line of kasbahs along two seasonal rivers. Its appearance may be deceptive to many, being so long, it may recall images of a forest more than a huge oasis. Still it is even larger, most of the oasis runs north from the road.
The most impressive among the many attractive kasbahs is the Amerhidl, dating back to the 17th century. Its design and grand size made it fit to illustrate the back of the Moroccan 50 dirham note.

What I liked about traveling with my friend is that she is Fearless, whether it was driving one lane mountain roads or stopping and exploring a property! This little church caught our eye and it's for sale too! Wouldn't it make a neat house? I thought the windows were broken out but actually they are like a dark leaded glass and most of them were covered to protect them. In later research I did find out that this was the Ellisville Methodist Church and that it has been unused for 20 years, but I couldn't find any info on when it was built.
