For the 12 months for dogs toy challenge (& no, the puppy is not the toy :-) The big pig has always been Sibley's favorite toy, ever since her first Christmas with us. And Nancy (SantaFeFCRs) made sure that her daughter Dart would have her own little pig, & left it on the front porch, keeping a proper social distance for this challenging time---

I was originally enrolled into the GETTY IMAGES collection as a contributor on April 9th 2012, and when links with FLICKR were terminated in March 2014, I was retained and fortunate enough to be signed up via a second contract, both of which have proved to be successful with sales of my photographs all over the world now handled exclusively by them.
On November 12th 2015 GETTY IMAGES unveiled plans for a new stills upload platform called ESP (Enterprise Submission Platform), to replace the existing 'Moment portal', and on November 13th I was invited to Beta test the new system prior to it being officially rolled out in December. ESP went live on Tuesday December 15th 2015 and has smoothed out the upload process considerably.
These days I take a far more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, and having moved from professional Nikon equipment to consumer bodies and lenses, I travel light less constraints and more emphasis on the pure capture of the beauty that I see, more akin to my original persuits and goals some five decades previously when starting out. I would like to say a huge and heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to GETTY IMAGES, and the 22.893+ Million visitors to my FLICKR site.

**** This frame was chosen on August 7th 2018 to appear on FLICKR EXPLORE (Highest Ranking: #80. This is my 103rd photograph to be selected, which for me is both amazing and exciting, as I never view my images as worthy compared to some of the awesome photography out there. EXPLORE is Flickr's way of showcasing the most interesting photos within a given point in time -- usually over a 24 hour period.
Flickr receives about 6,000 uploads every minute -- That's about 8.6 million photos a day! From this huge group of images, the Flickr Interestingness algorithm chooses only 500 images to showcase for each 24-hour period. That's only one image in every 17,000!..... so I am really thrilled to have a frame picked and most grateful to every one of the 17.950 Million people who have visited, favourite and commented on this and all of my other photographs here on my FLICKR site. *****

Looe, the Cornish for which is ‘Logh’, meaning deep water inlet, is a small coastal town and fishing port in south-east Cornwall.
In medieval times there were two towns on opposite banks of the River Looe. East Looe includes the fishing harbour, the main shopping centre and the sandiest beach. West Looe is quieter, but also has shops, restaurants and hotels, and leads to Hannafore with its fine views of Looe Island. The two towns are now one, joined by a bridge across the Looe river.
Looe is the second largest fishing port in Cornwall, supporting a fleet of trawlers, potters and netters together with an expanding number of hand-line fishermen.
The majority of the Looe fleet consists of day boats, meaning they go to sea and return each day, ensuring that their fish is fresh and of the highest quality (slush-ice bins are carried on board even the smallest boats).
Fish are landed at the market throughout the day and are stored in refrigerators until the next auction, beginning at 6.00am on weekdays.
The rainy season bringeth more than it taketh, but it doesn't come without its challenges. The answer to those challenges is to accessorize. I'm not talking filters or hoods or new lenses. Along those lines I think you need relatively few extras to be successful. I'm talking about accessorizing yourself. Seriously, one of the best things you can buy in terms of improving your photography is a good pair of shoes. If you are a city walker, go get something that will hold up for hours and miles. If you are a landscaper, waterproof boots will pay for themselves many times over. Sometimes a day out is make or break depending on if you brought a hat and gloves and not depending on which camera is in your bag. I was hanging out with a couple of fellow photographers this morning - Austin Granger and Justin Renault (you can find both of them here on Flickr). We were commiserating about fielding questions on our photos from people asking which lens was used or which camera was used. Austin made the remark that they should be asking what he had for breakfast that day as that had a lot more influence in how he photographed than the camera did.
In short, take care of yourself. Even in this rainy weather, a good pair of boots, a waterproof coat with a hood, even ...gasp... an umbrella and you'll find that it really isn't that uncomfortable to spend several hours out in the rain. And you know what happens if you spend enough time out there? You make photos. Hopefully ones you surprisingly find that you like much more than you expected to.
Forgive me for continuing this uploading of old stuff! Truth is, usually when I come home from a shoot, actually two or three days later, I go over the pictures and see a few pictures I like but only choose one to upload. This makes sure that I don't bore my viewers to death by uploading many similiar pictures at once, but on the other hand, I have a H U G E back-catalog of decent pictures that haven't seen the day of light, and probably never would... if I didn't upload old stuff now and a then. There's that, and then there's all the attention my aurora pictures get! You can debate whether that kind of attention is well earned or not, but hey, every visitor my aurora pictures bring in, sometimes goes to check out my other stuff as well.

For 'MacroMondays' theme of 'superstition'.
Isn't it a superstition, an irrational belief, that you must have flowers for a funeral. And the idea must go back a very long time. There is a Neanderthal grave in Iraq, within the Shanidar Caves where a group of ancient corpses had been surrounded in plant and floral remains.
We tend to remember the life and death of those we love and the final memory of them is set at a funeral service. Seeing our loved one surrounded by beautiful and heartfelt arrangements of plants and flowers can help create a lasting final impression that can bring smiles or tears.
For many of us the death of a faithful animal probably needs to be marked in some way. What to do with the remains - bury or cremate? A very dear friend of mine has taken her cat's ashes from house to house when she has moved. Reminded of this I have Joe's ashes in a decorated box - decorated of course with a plant tribute.

Riomaggiore (Rimazùu in the local Ligurian language) is a village and comune in the province of La Spezia, situated in a small valley in the Liguria region of Italy. It is the first of the Cinque Terre one meets when travelling north from La Spezia.
The village, dating from the early thirteenth century, is known for its historic character and its wine, produced by the town's vineyards. Riomaggiore is in the Riviera di Levante region and has shoreline on the Mediterranean's Gulf of Genoa, with a small beach and a wharf framed by tower houses. Riomaggiore's main street is Via Colombo, where numerous restaurants, bars and shops can be found.
The Via dell'Amore is a path connecting Riomaggiore to its frazione Manarola, also part of the Cinque Terre.
Riomaggiore is the most southern village of the five Cinque Terre, all connected by trail. The water and mountainside have been declared national parks.
Riomaggiore inspired paintings by Telemaco Signorini (1835-1901), one of the artists of the Macchiaioli group.

The theme for Happy Catuday this week is to show what cats do naturally. Well. Cats are great vomiters and love to eat grass to induce vomiting.
I put a brand new show-stopper of a collar on Ella (paid extra for the bow), took her outside and started photographing her. She rolled around on the sidewalk so her glossy black coat would have lots of dust and dirt in it and then started eating grass and gagging. If you look very, very closely, you'll see a couple drops of saliva above her eye from flicking her tongue. Lovely.
Happy Caturday: Basic Instincts
Something different. No bokeh today (sometimes I've got to do it). I had to stand in this spot for a while to get the path with no people on (there are some people in the distance though), but every time I tried to get a shot, someone would walk/cycle/skateboard into my shot. Now, if I trying for bokeh people, that would be fine, but instead, I probably looked like I was lost or something just standing there. :)
Happy Thursday! The weekend is in sight! I've looking forward to some quality time with my camera. I haven't picked it up for several weeks, and with the days getting really short, it's hard to find time or the light to get anything worth it. I always seem to be using the same lens recently, which is fine, but I do think I need to take some other lenses out for a spin this weekend. Maybe The Beast (macro lens)... or I might try and see if the garden birds co-operate with my big zoom lenses. We'll see... :)

"I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night." Sarah Williams.
For 3 years this photo has remained in my mind. In March of 2015 while exploring the paths near the road from Arcos to El Bosque, I found this view of the Sierra de Cádiz while I climbed an embankment near the intersection of Las Abiertas. That day the field lacked crops, it was a full moon night and the camera I had at that time could not stand high ISO. So I just took some pictures during the sunset, but I was convinced that I would come back one day to make this picture with better conditions to add a starry sky.
My knowledge during these 3 years has been increasing, to the point that I have learned techniques with which I could only dream at that time. Before facing this image again, I waited patiently until I considered myself capable of achieving the result I wanted and until the conditions were the best.
On this occasion, I have considered the state of the crops to photograph when the wheat was green, I have controlled the night sky state, photographing a night when the moon was only at the 7% and it was setting at nightfall, I have photographed from the blue hour to have a base photo on which I have added the more than 90 night photos of 30 seconds that result in the movement of the stars. And finally I have been able to correct the strong light pollution of the mountain villages that threatened to destroy my photograph. Maybe they are not the Alps, but the Sierra de Cádiz holds a great beauty for those willing to appreciate it.

thankyou so much for the comments guys, you've convinced me to load it public, shucks.

as you probably already know, i don't have my camera. it needs to be fixed and it should take a month. it's been one week already and i miss taking pictures so much. today, as i was going from school, the sun was shining. after extremely long time. the sun showed it's face i barely remembered and it made me happy. first thought was-i wish i had my camera. and it made me sad that i didn't have it.
why should not having my camera make me sad? i still see what i see. and it should still make me happy. i realized i take pictures because i want to share them. that's also good, but i don't always take them for myself, i think of sharing it first. i feel like if i don't share a moment, it's meaningless. i don't want to. i want to experience it, without capturing it, without sharing it.
so this month, is for myself. i won't be sharing. i share so much sometimes. i won't take pictures of moments, of feelings. i will experience it, i will feel it, i will live it. and for once, i will keep the memory only in my heart, not in a picture, not in a blog post, not in sharing. it will be fully mine.
some moments just can't be captured, or shared, or said. it has to stay unknown to everyone, but the one whom it belongs to. this month belongs to me and my heart. sharing everything with Him, in different ways than photography this time.

also, i have photoshop. and i have no idea how to use it, i seriously suck. i hope to get better. picnik was so easy to use and i had my way of editing. it's hard to get used to something new, but i hope to fall in love with it soon. if you have any tips, i'd be happy to hear them.
this will be replaced or reedited soon.

Friday's Food for Thought
Let's face it.... life right now is very tough and it seem to be getting harder everyday. If you are waiting for someone to rescue you in these times you will be waiting for a long time. We all want to live on easy street but getting there is not a smooth ride. I learned a long time ago that anything worth having is hard work. You will find you will have to do work in areas you don't like but if it will get you closer to your dreams you have to swallow your pride and do it! Yes you will have to deal with people you just don't agree with but if it will get you closer to your destiny then get along with them!
When I was growing up I had my plans in life all laid out and it all fell apart. I was frustrated and wanted to throw in the towel. But I remember my mom telling me this, "Son, do what you have to do in order to get where you want to be!" Everyday I live by this. Yes you are right to feel it is not right you have to struggle but sitting around complaining and doing nothing is not going to get you closer. Get in there, do the hard or boring tasks, and you will find you will come out on top.
(for English see below)
Klidně dva motoráky a třeba tři čtyři Balmy. To je ta slavná éra.
A pak je tu tohle. 64 let od objednávky první série, 61 let od začátku její výroby, 50 let od jejího (neslavného) konce. Dvaašenda znova - a asi doopravdy naposledy - v důstojné, rychlíkové vozbě.
---------------------------------------
When the ministry of transport ordered them, the key fighter aircraft od Czechoslovak Air Force was the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX. No war weary veteran, all of them were manufactured just a year ago.
Some 40 minutes after this picture was taken, a pair of JAS-39 Gripens roar in a low level flight just above this place. As if they were paying a tribute to some hero. Probably they had met with this train somewhere down the valley.
It is almost ubelivable that those two types of aircraft have both met the same type of train in - epic pause - active service.
M262 was a key type for Czechoslovak railways. Following the line of pre-war fast diesel railcars, it got some serious influence by German fast DMUs that ended up after the war in Czechoslovakia. Pretty conventional in appearence, but rather progressive in some solutions it was fist ordered in 1946, with production starting in 1949. it received mixed reviews in the early period, but proved sturdy, versatile and quite cheap later. With 238 manufactured examples you could meet it from west to east of Czechoslovakia, pulling the fast regional trains. Some of those had up to four coaches plus two or three railcars. Those glorious days in the 1960s and 1970s...
Having seen many iconic photos from this era, I would never belive I would have the opportunity of wittnesing this again in 2010. But hey, this is really the last game.
That year the last surviving examples, already ridiculously obsolete, were about to be retired, seeing just the limited use with inferior regional trains from Šumperk to Jeseník. But for a couple of days in September, the last glorious opportunity suddenly appeared. Due to the track maintenance, one M262 was literally closed in the nothern part of the track and therefore given a task of servicing all the fast trains on it as well.
So here she comes for the last time, at least for this day... Might she see those Gripens down the valley, coming for an unplaned tribute?

The Lessini mountain group in the Veneto Prealps, are the hills that rise just north of Verona and acts as a border between the Veneto Region and Trentino Alto Adige Region. The Lessini mountain group reaches to, just over 2000 meters a.s.l. and has multiple valleys and long ridges that descend down towards the Po valley.
The Lessinia is a zone of ancient origin, noted especially for its abundance of fossils. Significant traces of human settlement have also been discovered here.
