As a punishment for getting to see me in my undergarments you get to read one of my long meandering posts (or you can stop here). Now I've been surprisingly motivated the last few weeks to dress at home (well I can't do it anywhere else) and did a both last night and Monday. I had a little wobble on Monday where all I could see was male me looking back in the majority of my pics (a bad selfie was the root cause) so therefore wasn't really feeling it last night. However inspired by the wonderful Anna Thorne (search her out on here and follow if you don't already) and her suggestion I record a longer video than the one I did last week, I did just that. I also followed (mostly unsuccessfully) a makeup tutorial for eyeshadow (which is one of my major failings) which I ended up happier with than eye expected (see what I did there).
Anyhoo as a reward for getting this far (you stopped reading earlier then skipped to the bottom didn't you?) I can inform you that I shamelessly ripped off Miss Thorne (in a blatant piece of plagiarism) and used one of our dining chairs to record a video in this very outfit. To which I dare say I'll get around to posting at some point, and from the title of this particular photo you may guess that it's a little bit more risqué than my usual fair. On that note I'll leave you, have a lovely weekend folks 💋

happy holidays!
There’s landscape – and then there’s architecture.
When the two come together as strikingly as they do in the chapel by Staab Architekten in Kesselostheim (Bavarian Swabia!), I can’t help but feel the urge to capture it in an image.
Clouds. Vastness. Contrast.
A perfect setting for a black and white interpretation – minimal, crisp, atmospheric. And the best part: despite it being a late Sunday afternoon, I had the whole site to myself. A rare luxury. It gave me the chance to explore the chapel at my own pace and find my personal composition.
It reminded me once again just how much joy black and white photography brings me these days – especially because it doesn’t require shooting in the middle of the night during blue hour. Sometimes, it's enough to just head out in the afternoon, observe, feel, and create.
Oh, and by the way – this was my third chapel out of seven so far. Let’s see what’s still to come...
Pheobe, our guest for Oct. and Nov. -- At first, she was afraid of us! Now, she is so comfortable that she tries to push her limits. She knows she is not supposed to get on the table!!! She is sweet, though! She loves to chase the laser light! And we got her a feather toy that she enjoys, too.
Our granddaughter is taking her final college class in France, studying under a Master Art Instructor. She knows her cat is in good hands.
Is she obedient? Most of the time!

Jean Jacques lives in a store in Paris and basically lays about in the storefront on a couch that seems fashioned for a cat specifically. I was recently honored to be able to take his portrait while in Paris and bask in his glorious presence. Jean Jacques could very well be the reincarnated feline version of Oscar Wilde, who was also long ago photographed in a reclining and indulgent state. Because we were separated by the storefront glass, I was not able to interview him. However, if I had, here's how it would have gone in my head:
Me: It's really an honor to meet with you Jean Jacques. I know you have many admirers and you need ample time to catch beauty sleep.
Jean Jacques: It is quite an honor for you, yes.
Me: Please tell me, what are some of your favorite things?
Jean Jacques: I am so very handsome and I enjoy being adored by many others. You, for instance, have traveled quite a long distance in order to behold my gorgeous orange fur. I would almost rather enjoy this admiration from guests than sleep. Though, typically when I sleep I dream of all of the people standing in front of my store and being in awe of my beauty.
Me: Can you explain why you have two names when most cats have only one?
Jean Jacques: I know this cat down the street named Jean and he isn't nearly as sophisticated. He doesn't have the fine dapper qualities that I possess. For example, his fur is often scruffy and not well brushed and cleaned. I felt the two names would be more regal and would help distinguish me as being a high quality cat.
Me: That makes sense, Jean Jacques. But what would you say to Parisians who prefer dogs instead of cats?
Jean Jacques: What is this madness you speak of? This is something I simply cannot believe or tolerate!
Me: Very well. Perhaps, they just need to meet you! Tell me, what are some of your favorite foods?
Jean Jacques: I like to start each day with some caviar. My second breakfast is typically salmon. I enjoy a snack of sardines in the afternoon and for dinner, a lobster bisque is suitable.
Me: You seem to be getting your nutritional needs met. If you were not a cat, what do you think you might be instead?
Jean Jacques: Very likely the President of France, though this might unfortunately reduce my lounging around time. I do like the idea of being important on a national level but I seem to already possess this. Perhaps, an ambassador might fit with my social aptitude and my natural likability. Though, it would be a shame to have to be human. I see so many of you suffering out there while I am relaxing happily. It looks rather dreadful, I must say.
Me: Indeed, it is so! Do you ever happen to get lonely and long for a feline companion?
Jean Jacques: There are days when I do feel a hint of loneliness and then I must search for a mirror. There really aren't any suitable companions out there but my own image is quite soothing to me when I feel the need for a friend.
Me: Are there any other cats you look up to?
Jean Jacques: Though his existence was before my time, I enjoy hearing about Behemoth.
Me: I didn't realize you could read!
Jean Jacques: Of course I can read! I am a highly civilized being. I can even understand up to ten different languages when the words are compliments towards myself.
Me: Do you ever feel like venturing away from the store and exploring more of the world?
Jean Jacques: That sounds rather exhausting. I'm quite comfortable in my home here. I have my own couch and those who gather to be in awe of my presence. I would hate to miss a nap or meal just to travel.
Me: Thanks for spending the time to talk to me. One last question: Do you have any regrets?
Jean Jacques: I regret nothing.
(Jean-Jacques: Je ne regrette rien.)

Well, the weather forecast for Kananaskis for yesterday, 24 September 2019, was not exactly accurate - sun, with cloud in the afternoon. They kind of forgot to mention the strong wind, light rain .... and SNOW! For a few minutes, it was one kind of weather, then a few more minutes of a different kind, repeated throughout the afternoon.
Our temperatures are falling - forecast for rain tomorrow, rain and snow the next day, then two days of snow with temps down to 0C and -1C. What a way to celebrate the first few days of fall. The expected snow will probably remove quite a few of the golden leaves, so I wanted anther chance to see and photograph them while I had the chance.
The sky was blue when I set out yesterday morning and I felt quite hopeful. When I go to Kananaskis, I always go south from the city. I had no idea where I would be going, but I knew that it wouldn't be as far as I would have liked. As it turned out, I had a few surprises along the way, so it was a real mixed day of photo opportunities - my favourite kind of day.
After stopping to take a few scenic shots on the way to the main highway through Kananaskis, I eventually reached the area where the American Pikas live. I really lucked out almost straight away, as the only few photos I took were when one Pika showed itself, and that was within maybe ten minutes. By this time, the wind was strong and it was snowing, and it was cold! Time to get out of there, as the scree slope is treacherous enough on a calm, clear day.
Driving further north, I was delighted to see a convoy of maybe a dozen beautiful old cars heading in my direction. Couldn't resist, so I followed them when they turned off into a small picnic area. I asked if I could take a few quick photos and they were happy enough for me to do that. One car owner did comment about blurry photos because of the falling snow, but surprisingly my photos came out sharp enough.
Further on, I made a quick stop at another pull-off and was happy to notice a few mushrooms. When I turned around to head for home, I was even happier. I pulled over to take a photo of one of the mountain peaks. One tiny white speck in the distance, just off the road, caught my eye. When I went to check it out, I found myself staring at a little group of Shaggy Mane/Ink Cap mushrooms. The largest one had already started the process of curling up the rim of its cap and dripping a black ink. So much rain this year has resulted in such an amazing fungi season.
Much closer to home, I decided to take a side road that has such beautiful hill and mountain views. An old wooden barn was a welcome surprise - I don't remember seeing this one before.
So, a lovely day out, driving 320 km, with such a mixture of weather and sightings. So glad I did decide to go - as usual, a very last minute decision, but basically, I just need to grab my cameras and go : )

Taken way back when we lived in Étampes. We had hills there too, but not quite as many as there are here - and I'm sure they weren't as steep!
These houses were halfway up to the plateau and all built upwards, as you can tell from the front steps.
Not sure I'd want to take the shopping up those every week. Plus we'd get ice and snow there too!!
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :)
Known for its agility and strength, the northern goshawk is one of the most effective and versatile hunters in the raptor world. Northern goshawks are found in forests across the Northern Hemisphere, preferring dense woodlands for nesting and hunting. They inhabit coniferous, mixed, and deciduous forests, often in remote areas away from human activity.
The northern goshawk is a versatile predator with a diet that includes:
Birds: pigeons, crows, grouse, and songbirds.
Mammals: squirrels, rabbits, hares, and other small mammals.
Occasionally: reptiles and insects.
They use their powerful talons and keen eyesight to ambush prey, often hunting through fast, maneuverable flights in dense forests.
For those of you that don't know. The Goldcrest is the smallest bird in the UK. Even smaller than the Wren. They're fairly difficult to photograph as they flit around a lot.
2023 appears to be the last year of existance for the De Wadden.
National Museums Merseyside plan to deconstruct this auxiliary vessel by the end of the year.
This will be the second preserved ship to be deconstructed (Why don't they use the word scrapped?) by the Merseyside Maritime Museum a decade or so ago the Weaver Packet WINCHAM was broken up.
The Museum appear to be planning a "contemplation space" which resembles a peculiar mausoleum in the bottom of the Graving Dock as part of a redevelopment of the area!!
Whilst there has been no money forthcoming for the restoration and maintenance of the DE WADDEN and also the WINCHAM millions of pounds have been poured into the Slavery Museum over the past two decades and the Museum of Liverpool was constructed a decade ago even though there was a perfectly adequate museum of Liverpool in William Brown Street.
More photographs of DE WADDEN can be found here: www.jhluxton.com/Shipping/Historic-Ships/De-Wadden/
The following notes are from Historic Ships:
DE WADDEN is a three-masted auxiliary schooner built in the Netherlands in 1917. She was built by Gebr Van Diepen of Waterhuizan, Netherlands, for the Nederlandsche Stoomvaart Maatschappij (Netherlands Steamship Company). This company commissioned DE WADDEN and her two sisters in order to take advantage of the very lucrative trading conditions created by Dutch neutrality in the First World War, and it is vessels like her which provided the foundation for the continuing Dutch strength in the European short-sea trades.
The world-wide shipping slump in the early 1920s forced her sale to Richard Hall of Arklow in the South of Ireland, and it is as an Irish Sea schooner that she is best remembered. From 1922 to 1961, DE WADDEN carried bulk cargoes such as grain, pit-props, china clay, mineral ores, and especially coal from the River Mersey to various Irish ports. Victor Hall, her longest serving Captain, commanded her from 1933 to 1954, and her finest hour was probably during the Second World War when she was one of a small handful of vessels which provided the vital lifeline of supplies to the Irish Republic, after many other ships had been taken up for the British war effort. Her crew consisted of only five men and a boy, and since she could sail, a qualified marine engineer was not required. She carried a motor winch in the forward deckhouse to allow the cargo to be handled without extensive shoreside facilities.
The motor was used almost all the time when she was under sail. This allowed the motor schooner to be built with a flat bottom and shallow draught for maximum cargo capacity together with the ability to enter small harbours. Without the push of the motor, this hull shape does not sail very well. Her original 125 hp 'SteyWal Dutch engine gave her a speed of five knots, but after a major failure was replaced by an 80hp Bolinder engine purchased from the Admiralty. In addition a 50 hp Kelvin engine was fitted on the port quarter to give additional power. These were both removed in January 1942 and replaced with a sic cylinder 150 hp Crossley DR diesel which was only replaced in turn by a 450 hp Caterpillar Diesel in 1980.
This combination of sail and motor remained economical up to the early 1960s when she finally had to retire in favour of a modern motor coaster. She was therefore sold in Dublin to Mr McSweeney who took her to Scotland for a new and varied career. Her tasks ranged from carrying sand to taking out fishing parties, and she even appeared in a number of films, including The Onedin Line for the BBC. She was eventually put up for sale by her last owner, Kenneth Kennedy of Dunoon, and purchased by the Merseyside Maritime Museum in 1984. In 1987 she was drydocked to allow an extensive program of conservation and restoration. In the early 1990s the Museum briefly ran some onboard tours and education sessions, before this was withdrawn to allow further necessary conservation work to take place.
In 2022, options were reviewed for De Wadden's future and in November a declaration of intent to deconstruct was formally published by National Museums Liverpool in conjunction with NHS-UK. For further details visit www.nationalhistoricships.org.uk/news/nhs/declaration-int...
Update, May 2023:
National Museums Liverpool’s Board of Trustees has approved the recording and disposal by deconstruction of DE WADDEN. A team is now reviewing the various options to record the vessel, from photogrammetry, to exploring what elements of DE WADDEN might be suitable to retain as part of the Maritime Museum’s collections or for other potential use. National Museums Liverpool is also committed to the recycling of as much of the vessel’s materials as possible. Deconstruction, which will follow a programme set out by National Historic Ships for the responsible disposal of ships, is due to take place towards the end of 2023. Playing PK and you can add your own portraits so took some shots in Skyrim to use for Wulver, who I am playing in PK as well as Skyrim. The ones I will use are the first two in this set since they match his rogue/mage look best. The others more for wallpapers or when I want a sexier portrait of him in the game (or when he gets wings at level 15).

Such tragic news this morning about the passing of Etva101, one of the most prolific and talented of our flickr friends. To lose two founding members of the Blind Pig Speakeasy group within a month must be truly devastating for Karen and all our members. Etva was an inspiration to everyone who was lucky enough to have her as a contact. Words cannot express our sorrow.....
Well, it's red at least and quite warm. Hope you're all warm where you are. I have to say, it's a challenge keeping warm here with the heating off. It's ridiculous how expensive EVERYTHING is now, and I live in a country producing ALL and more of it's energy in renewables (Scotland). It's at times like this, sitting here without heating, wrapped in many layers that my desire for an independent Scotland grows. Everything done by the UK in the last 12 years has been an unmitigated disaster. Anyway, enjoy the legs, you'll probably not see them until the spring!

One of several attempts shooting with a jeweller's eye-piece as a lens. I'm sure there were more productive ways of spending an afternoon but I was curious and got interested ... one for Dee.
Barbara's wonderful group has been hibernating for a couple of weeks but she's invited me to take it on for a while. It is, in my opinion, the best, high quality colour group in FlickrLand so I'd better not screw it up :-) Excellent images with great use of colour and super composition - that's the aim.
The craving for colour is a natural necessity just as for water and fire. Colour is a raw material indispensable to life. At every era of his existence and his history, the human being has associated colour with his joys, his actions and his pleasures. (Frenand Leger)

Why I'm using it?
Well, I'm on diet and using it means losing my appetite.
