Now, for the 3rd year running, we have another 3 young House Martins developing fast. These are the 3 egg shells found in the garden, 2 on the 29th May with an interesting fine pattern inside, (showing through the light) and the last one found 2 days later on 31st May with no patterning inside?
The shells are incredibly delicate and only the size of a small fingernail. Alas, since this photograph was taken, the birds have not visited again since 2020.

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. Flynn, my little gate-finder dog, is always keen to run ahead & wait by a gate... He was keen to "show" this one to me - even though opening it would've simply put us straight back into the same field we'd just left from another exit! I do prefer taking a circular route when out... but perhaps not one involving going around & around in a small loop, in one field!

One from a week ago today, wanted to share this as it is one of our special family moments. My daughter had just finished taking part in "Race for Life" 5k event, it had completely tired out the twins obviously, Roni was a little unhappy throughout the race as her Mommy kept running past her which she could not understand, lots of cuddles necessary at the end. Lots of money raised for this great cause, my Mom would have been very proud too, Cancer touches so many families it was wonderful to see so many taking part, and it was a very happy event.
The colours, the warmth, the fleeting light. Autumn memories on a wet, dark and cold evening at home again.

For Day 78/365 and FlckrFridays "Portrait"
My dog sitting on the floor trying to catch some of the sunshine rays coming through the window.
Rarely do I see Rooks posted online by wildlife photographers because they are common. But for me they are one of the most interesting birds we have in the UK.
A quick shot of the Orion Nebula (M42), one of my favourite celestial objects and a really satisfying target. I've been waiting a year for an opportunity to image this nebula again, this time with a polar alignment and guiding to enable much longer exposures than the 15 second subs I took last time and with a lower ISO to reduce noise. The next project with this is to either stitch two shots together or, better still, rotate the camera in order to fit both the Orion Nebula and the nearby Running Man Nebula into one frame.

21 x bias/offset frames (subtracted from flat frames only)

The Orion Nebula is one of the most scrutinized and photographed objects in the night sky, and is among the most intensely studied celestial features. The nebula has revealed much about the process of how stars and planetary systems are formed from collapsing clouds of gas and dust. I found this lovely small staircase going up into someone's garden. I hadn't really noticed it before, but it's lovely.

for 52 in 2012 #8 Going Shopping
Well, we don't actually go shopping this year! All our purchases come to the door! I have been let down by my veg delivery this week, by 2 different sources! This is my son's box, which gets delivered to us for convenience sake, plus an Amazon smile. I know! Using Amazon is not the most environmentally best, but it is the only way I can get some stuff quickly and easily!
I had waited for over 3 weeks to capture this image so the tide was high enough on a day I wasn't working, The visit I feel paid off. This image is exactly what I wanted to capture, no horizon as I shot from high up and a misty etherical feel to the sea to give an impression of mist or fog.
There's long exposures and then there's long exposures. This one was 751 seconds long, thats 12 and half minutes, it's the longest I have ever taken, this was only achievable by using a big stopper, or so I thought, however that wasn't giving me the time I wanted so I added a little stopper too, thus reducing the light hitting the sensor by 16 stops.
The image here is straight from the RAW file, no editing whatsoever, no adjustment of colour temperature just simply resized in lightroom and uploaded. I hope you like it as much as I did taking it.

Went for a nice drive over to Long Reef this morning, with the promise of approx 60% cloud. For once, the apps were correct, however....
The cloud was in the wrong place...
Yes, they were in the sky, just not the part of the sky I needed them to be in...
I wanted to be shooting from where the guy in the photo is standing. I waited, and watched, and waited a bit more, but from where I was standing (at the top of the hill, looking down towards the reef and water), there was just nothing in the sky worth shooting.
So, as to not completely waste the morning, off down I went to the bottom of the hill, and shot upwards, to where the clouds actually were.
Sometimes, you just have to make do with what you have been given...

This reminds me of a scene from one of my all time favorite movies: Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds.
I'm guessing that they are nesting nearby and are searching for food on the beach below - which explains the bulk of the flock.
No birds were added to the photo or cloned - I however cloned away a bird or two that were partially in frame... Shame on me. ;)
This was for the Gizmodo weekly challenge. The challenge was to be directly over your subject. I was pretty sure I would never pull this off, but ta-da!!! That is why I took all the photos from the front just in case I spoked her. However, this little gal was extremely photogenic. I was able to position myself directly over her after several other shots. She actually followed me around a bit seemingly wanting me to take her photo (as seen below). I used the Opteka 31mm tube as well as a Raynox 250 adapter. Why do I asume its female...... I guess because ive never seen a dude beg for a photo shoot.

For the 12 months for dogs toy challenge (& no, the puppy is not the toy :-) The big pig has always been Sibley's favorite toy, ever since her first Christmas with us. And Nancy (SantaFeFCRs) made sure that her daughter Dart would have her own little pig, & left it on the front porch, keeping a proper social distance for this challenging time---
This E9 was built for the Union Pacific railroad back in September 1955 as their UP 957 and served them well, until it's sale to Amtrak, where it would become their AMTK 430. Amtrak retired the classic streamliner in 1982 and it found it's way to Alaska working for the Alaska Railroad where it became their ARR 2401. ARR shed the locomotive and William Gardner of Northern Railcar Corporation picked it up along with ARR 2402 which was former Milwaukee Road 32A. The 2401 was patched and renumbered 10A to pinch hit for Mr. Gardner's Scenic Rail Dining train out of Brown Deer. After the Scenic Rail Dining venture went south, or west through divorce proceedings, Gardner was able to keep the 10A and 10C and they were painted into the beautiful crimson and gray scheme. A few years later, Mr Gardner added a E9 B unit to the consist, making it the finest looking executive set of locomotives around. After WATCO took control of the WSOR, they had no desire or need for the beautiful units and shed them. The 101 would go to the Friends of 261 where it wears a handsome pseudo Milwaukee Road scheme for their passenger operation. 102 ended up at the Illinois Railroad Museum where it remains in it's crimson and gray scheme. 103, former UP, AMTK, ARR 2401, WSOR 103, ended up as SLRG 103 on the Iowa Pacific. The 103 is now up for auction and the Friends of 261 would really like to add it to their collection to match the 32A. I can't get the link to work for donations there, but if interested go to friends of 261, so they can hopefully add this well maintained locomotive to their roster.
