Trindade Church is one of the most impressive churches in the city for its enormous proportions as it's integrated into a hospital of the Holy Order of Terceira Trindade (1755). It occupies an entire city block. It's neoclassical with baroque influences and is just in front of the rear facade of the City Hall, but forever hidden from the point of view of Aliados.

This is Scala dei Turchi. Italian for "Stair of the Turks". It’s a rocky cliff on the coast of Realmonte, near Porto Empedocle in southern Sicily, Italy. It has become a tourist attraction, partly due to its mention in Andrea Camilleri's series of detective stories about Commissario Montalbano. Fact toy: Andrea Camilleri is originally from Porto Empedocle.
The Scala is coastal formation formed by marl. A sedimentary rock consisting of calcium carbonate or lime-rich mud or mudstone with, a characteristic white color. It lies between two sandy beaches, and is accessed through a limestone rock formation in the shape of a staircase, hence the name. The latter part of the name derives from the frequent raids carried on by Moors.
In August 2007, the municipality of Realmonte applied for the inclusion of the Scala dei Turchi in the UNESCO Heritage List.
In February 2020, following years of complaints about the poor environmental protection of the site from erosion and tourist vandalism, Italian prosecutors seized control of the site. They ordered its temporary closure for monitoring, and announced that they were investigating a man who claimed ownership of the site in a dispute with the Realmonte local authority. One part is owned by the local authorities in Realmonte. Another part is subject of heated controversy, between the local administration and a man who claims to be the owner of a large area of the site, the one most visited by tourists. The prosecutor of Agrigento has announced that the man has been placed under investigation for occupation of public land.
Technical stuff
This panorama consists of 8 shots and spans roughly 188,93 degrees. The limited number of shot is due to the rather busy cliff and therefore not wanting to double up on people on the cliff. The shot have a range of 320ISO, f8.0, 1/2000-1/3200, -2/3 and 16 mils.
The initial pano was created with PS and post-production was done with LR. This included balancing the lighting condition between the white rocks and the surrounding areas. I also pushed the shadows al little so a lot of people on the formation are a bit more in tune. The original file was 17320x6816 pixels and 705MB (as I worked with only one layer). I resized it for Flickr to 3000x1181 (excluding the frame).
Finally, I added some copyright signs (in PS). The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the fact that my photos were frequently copied. So, don't bother commenting on that.

First of all, I thank all the friends of this Flickr community who have been concerned about my health and in all the ways they have been tempted to hear from me and have written words of affection and concern to me.

It has been a long time since I used the camera to take a photo to be published on Flickr, the last photo published dates back to January 13th. Since then there has been a sequence of negative circumstances.
It all started in December 2019 when I realized that the medicine I was taking to regulate blood pressure, a little high, did not work very well. After a couple of weeks of cardiology, radiology and so on, the doctors decided to change the medicine, same dosage but a different medicine.
At that time I had little free time and little desire for photos, but the problem was solved and now with the new drug I am much better.
Then, after over fifteen years of service, the computer monitor stopped working. I ordered a new monitor which arrived after a few days. But as soon as I connected the monitor I realized that the computer did not turn on ... The computer was also more than 15 years old, still with the XP operating system.
I ordered a new computer and the prospect of having to spend a lot of time setting up the new computer and including all the applications that were in the old one made me enter the mood of ... laziness ...
F ... O .. modern technology ...
Then came the Coronavirus. All closed in the house. Grumble !!!!
At this point I reflected for a long time on the oddity of our life and the life of our parents and grandparents. We have to fight a deadly virus that spreads all over the world but they had to face two World Wars in a few decades.
They had the courage and strength to resist and win, so we too must have the courage and strength to go ahead and fight this virus all together even if, ironically, we have to stay at least one meter apart. Physically distant but close in spirit and in the will to win this battle.
For this reason, when I read the theme of "Smile on Saturday" I immediately thought of the gesture that made Churchill famous and that encouraged millions of people to fight and win.

Taken way back when we lived in Étampes. We had hills there too, but not quite as many as there are here - and I'm sure they weren't as steep!
These houses were halfway up to the plateau and all built upwards, as you can tell from the front steps.
Not sure I'd want to take the shopping up those every week. Plus we'd get ice and snow there too!!

Pictured together for the first time are these four fine NCME Palatine-bodied Volvo Olympians. From the left, former Liverbus of Huyton 211 ‘Andy’ L211SBG, former MTL North ‘Millenium Fleet’ 0317 (R317WVR). Also from the Millenium Fleet, but in the guise of Arriva Merseyside 3312 (R312WVR). Finally, and most recently completed is former MTL/Wirral Peninsula Buses 0277 (N277CKB), a coach-seated long wheelbase example, new for the cross-river services between Liverpool and the Wirral. All four buses are part of the excellent collection at the North West Vehicle Restoration Trust, based in Kirkby, near Liverpool. Their annual running day event is pencilled in for Sunday 6th June 2021.

For CHIARA, an amazing 9-year-old young lady that I was lucky enough to spend time with on Sunday. She loves owls, so yesterday, I went down to Fish Creek Park to see if I could find an owl, big or small, to photograph for her. Saw this beautiful Great Horned Owl. You can see that one eye is just open a tiny bit, to keep an eye on us.
Overslept by an hour and a half, so gotta post and run and see if there is any way to find the group of people I'm supposed to meet up with this morning!
Later: I had been invited to visit friends on Sunday, east of the city. Spent a few most enjoyable hours, catching up on the last few years. One very cute little three-year old girl was very shy, as she hadn't met me before : ) Hopefully, next time, I will get the chance to get to know her much better. Chiara, about 6 years older, is a grown-up, very smart girl (just like her Mom!), with an interest in photography. Her camera, much better than mine (lol), is very heavy compared to mine, yet she carries it around with no complaints. She showed me some of her photos, including ones taken when she did a photography course this summer - wow!!! Had to smile when she showed her mother that she had found the Flickr app on her iPad mini and asked if she could download it, as it was free! How different kids are today, but even so, I was taken aback at how grown-up this child is! She likes owls and was wearing a beautiful owl T-shirt. Even the placemats on the kitchen table were covered in owls. I can only imagine the photography skills Chiara will have if she continues to have an interest in taking photos. Such a joy to talk to.
Thanks so much, Jenn, for encouraging me to drive out to see you all. That was so kind of you and so very much appreciated! Kevin, it was so good to see you after all this time - we had so much to catch up on. Thank you both for lunch, too - including the banana bread you made specially, Jenn. Thank you both for being so very welcoming! Definitely a day to remember.

A bonus for today, but in keeping with the theme, here's one of my favorite trees and the blossoms that it produces, Conus or the Dogwood.
The name "dog-tree" entered the English vocabulary before 1548, becoming "dogwood" by 1614. Once the name dogwood was affixed to this kind of tree, it soon acquired a secondary name as the hound's tree, while the fruits came to be known as "dogberries" or "houndberries" (the latter a name also for the berries of black nightshade, alluding to Hecate's hounds).
Dogwoods have simple, untoothed leaves with the veins curving distinctively as they approach the leaf margins. Most dogwood species have opposite leaves, while a few, such as Cornus alternifolia and C. controversa, have their leaves alternate. Dogwood flowers have four parts. In many species, the flowers are borne separately in open (but often dense) clusters, while in various other species (such as the flowering dogwood), the flowers themselves are tightly clustered, lacking showy petals, but have a wonderful scent. They are native to Eurasia, North America, China, and Japan.
The tree blooms at the same time that my two other favorites on Mt. Diablo, the Buckeye (flic.kr/p/2fMde4B) and the California Buckthorn (flic.kr/p/WmLQoq). These three bloom in May, have the most pleasing aroma, but none last very long. They attract more butterflies than any other trees, but for only two weeks. I have photographed Checkerspots,
Tiger and Western Swallowtails, and Monarchs within that two week window.

Have I missed my vocation as an estate agent?
Well, it's red at least and quite warm. Hope you're all warm where you are. I have to say, it's a challenge keeping warm here with the heating off. It's ridiculous how expensive EVERYTHING is now, and I live in a country producing ALL and more of it's energy in renewables (Scotland). It's at times like this, sitting here without heating, wrapped in many layers that my desire for an independent Scotland grows. Everything done by the UK in the last 12 years has been an unmitigated disaster. Anyway, enjoy the legs, you'll probably not see them until the spring!

Such tragic news this morning about the passing of Etva101, one of the most prolific and talented of our flickr friends. To lose two founding members of the Blind Pig Speakeasy group within a month must be truly devastating for Karen and all our members. Etva was an inspiration to everyone who was lucky enough to have her as a contact. Words cannot express our sorrow.....
This is my son and daughter in laws cat, Nibbler. He doesn't look really happy about being photographed, but he had such beautiful light behind him and I could not resist.

Kind of a quiet week with my girl. She is not interested in her food but will eat what we are eating. She seems comfortable enough thanks to the Librela injection. We took her to the beach yesterday as it was a beautiful day here. I was trying for a nice shot of Della by the reflections in the little pond behind the beach. I didn’t get what I was hoping for but I am putting up the photo of what I did get at that location in the first comments box.
I went with my almost silhouette shot from our little walk by the beach. Our silhouette shots are not as fun and wild as they used to be. Jumping for frisbees is not in the beach time actives anymore. However just a short walk along the shore can be very nice too. There was no fooling around with the colors in this photo, that was really what it looked like!
We took bloodwork on Della yesterday as she has been so sedate lately. I fear her kidney issues might be catching up with her.

For today's dog walk I decided to go to the wind farm and get some misty photos of the wind turbines, you can usually see them from quite a distance away but it was so misty that I couldn't even see them when I was stood right next to them. I have two versions of this photo this one and one without the dog took me a while to decide which one to put on here.
Barbara's wonderful group has been hibernating for a couple of weeks but she's invited me to take it on for a while. It is, in my opinion, the best, high quality colour group in FlickrLand so I'd better not screw it up :-) Excellent images with great use of colour and super composition - that's the aim.
