An eastern phoebe launches from its perch in pursuit of a fly. This was a lucky shot and not perfectly in focus, but I do admire my flickr friends who manage to catch small birds in flight in perfect focus.

I think this is in subfamily Anthracinae of the Bombyliidae "bee fly" family. Possibly Anthrax sp.

I was pretty happy with this - never caught a fly in flight before.

Fly with Water Drop I think??????

I saw this fly by chance on the kitchen window ledge.

I was lucky to get my camera & take a very few shots.

It was taken hand held. No time for tripod or monopod

& I have shaky hands especially as close as this

I am overwhelmed by your response to this image

Please accept my thanks for all your faves & comments

2/19/2022 WWII Trainers, guess they were enjoying a beautiful day here in Dallas. Always recognize their distinctive sound, so I was able to get out and get a shot.

Fly agaric

(Amanita muscaria)

Famous, enchanting and highly toxic. Fly agaric is the home of fairies and magical creatures and a lover of birch woodland, where it helps trees by transferring nutrients into their roots, but if eaten can cause hallucinations and psychotic reactions.

Winged Maple seeds look so beautiful - ready to fly away and make a new tree!

stable fly

The calf stinger looks harmless like a house fly, but, as its name suggests, it prefers to sting people in the calf. If it is warm and humid, the stable fly multiplies rapidly.

Happy Fly Day Friday to all!

A Bombylius major in the field, for Fly Day Friday - HFDF!

“What is it to discover you have wings?

What is it to be afraid of your wings?

What is it to discover at the end of your life that you had wings and never flew?

What is it to find out that you were hidden from yourself?

What is it to be forgotten?

Each day we are forgotten by ourselves

through ourselves,

For we do not believe, in who we are.”

― Mimi Novic, The Silence Between the Sighs

I'm not sure if this is a fly or not, so I will put into the FDF group but I will remove if not a fly once I can confirm (or someone can confirm for me) if it is a fly or not? HFDF
