The fall of 1972 was the first Float-a-Thon race on campus. The race requires students to hand- build something that will float down the Huron River. The floats are made by different student organizations on campus, such as Greek Life and dorm halls.

Experiments with beer continue - after having beer floats in San Diego, I'm trying to recreate the deliciousness at home - and encourage the bars restaurants I frequent in NYC to add them to the menu.
In a conversation with Garrett Oliver, the brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery (who is one of the few people so far to not be at all freaked out by the idea of adding ice cream to beer...) he recommended adding coffee ice cream to his award-winning Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout.
Unfortunately, the deli around the corner doesn't consider "coffee" to be a popular enough ice cream flavor to have on hand - round here, looks like "Mango" and "Dulce de Leche" are more popular. Come to think of it, maybe coffee was there and it sold out, leaving mango behind in the freezer. Oh, well.
Vanilla worked just as well - swimmingly in fact. Until I get my hands on some coffee ice cream, this is perhaps the best combination of beer and ice cream I've tasted so far. (with the Mother's Milk Stout running a close second). Don't believe me? Get yourself some Chocolate Stout (any brand) and some vanilla ice cream and try it on your own.
Oh, BTW - You're Welcome!
The Aomori Nebuta Matsuri is held in Aomori City in Aomori Prefecture, Tohoku Japan during August each year. Nebuta are giant, wire-frame, paper lanterns shaped in various legendary and macho characters such as samurai warriors, demons, and gods. They are fantastic works of art dramatically illuminated from the inside. The floats are paraded along the main streets of the city near Aomori Station every night of the festival.
