Another shot from my photo shoot with Ashley. Didn't think it was possible to look graceful, beautiful, and compossed in freezing-cold water. But she proved me wrong. Thanks again to her for being a champ.
We created a political art float with friends and neighbors for the 2017 Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade.
The Bamboodu Theater is a puppet show on wheels, starring Lady Liberty and Mr. Trump. Each time Trump says something wrong, Liberty hits him on his thick, bobbing head. A news ticker displays some of Mr. Trump’s latest fake news tweets.
Parade watchers will be invited to sing along the inspiring poem on liberty: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses …”
We built this float in my front yard with a wonderful team at the Mill Valley Community Action Network (MVCAN), a local political group which I recently joined to resist the conservative takeover of our country. Through this interactive art experience, we hope to engage people of all ages to get engaged in political action.
In this final session, we rehearsed our Bamboodu Theater performance and practiced our sing-along. We then loaded the float in a van, to transport it to the parade on Monday, May 29, 2017.

GeorgeFest, the second oldest festival commemorating George Washington's birthday and the longest running festival of any kind in Florida is sponsored by the Lake Eustis Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Eustis. The festival draws about 25,000 visitors over the 3 days. The many activities include outdoor dining, singing & music, fireworks, carnival rides, a float parade, and an annual 5km run.
In 2011, the Eustis Memorial Library staff designed an award -winning Library Float for the parade.
Figures, Chiesa del Purgatorio, Trapani, Sicily, 20 May 2016
These are some of the 20 floats stored in the Chiesa del Anime Sante del Purgatorio. Every Good Friday they are used in a 24 hour long procession through the streets. It takes 16 men to carry each float. Different trade guilds have their own floats, as can be seen from the labels.
The procession has been taking place for over 400 years.
