Wood floats, but the ability to stay upright does come into question, some additional work needed, before it is allowed into the centre of the lake.
Pulled on a string is some fun, but you really want to see if it will sail on its own.
If it sinks at the edge, it can be saved as the water is only about six inches deep.
Wellingtons take on water once you get further than three feet from the edge.

This photo is from the 2nd parade at the Mazatlan Carnival in February 2009 - it goes along the Malecon back into downtown Mazatlan. The parade is pretty comical - the actual parade is preceded by about 20 minutes of floats loaded with gorgeous women riding beer floats waving at the crowds. This photo is from the actual parade. What a very interesting parade!
Floats used for marking the position of lobster creels. A good way of recycling plastic drinks bottles.
Vicenza community members participate in the Family Float Nite held at the Villaggio pool Aug. 11.
Many children and adults enjoyed the last family night at the facility.
After Aug. 22 the Villaggio pool will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
It is closed on Wednesday for maintenance and it will be closed for the season on Sept. 4.

This summer I got to work with Rock Paper Robot on their Float Table. Magnetized wooden cubes and steel cables hold the pieces together, and can support decorative items up to five pounds. This playful piece merges high design and classical physics.

Float planes are are a vital part of life in the north. You can fly out to an outpost camp or a full service fly-in lodge in a float plane. Take a tour of the town you are visiting for a different perspective.

In December 2012 I visited the Dallas Arboretum for Chihuly Nights, the night time exhibition of the world famous glass artist, Dale Chihuly. You could purchase a ticket either for a daytime visit, or one of the illuminated night visits called Chihuly Nights. These works of art were scattered over the 65 acres of the Dallas Arboretum. You had to purchase your ticket in advance online and no refunds were given for inclement weather. I was fortunate. The weather was fantastic on my chosen night, right before a big cold front moved through the area.
Washed up on the beach by the Ogden Point Breakwater (top right). Unfortunately for me there was another photographer shooting this float during the entire "sunset" so I didnt get in on the action until the light was essentially gone. I still like the B&W conversion though.
