See Jan Groover's work. It's not the planes (as such) as much as the reflective surfaces.

I have never seriously tried to photograph butterflies in flight but a large number of Brimstones when I was at Rutland made me try. Brimstones are rare where I live in the Pennines because their foodplants (Buckthorn/Alder Buckthorn) are absent, so I rarely get photo-opportunities with them. But I wanted to capture the elusive upperwing, which is always clamped tightly shut when they rest. I managed a couple of shots where they were fluttering at a flower, showing some upperwing, but this is a full-on upperwing shot in flight. It is a male, with sulphur yellow wings, after which it was named Brimstone. The female is more of a pale green hue.

They apparently overwinter as adult butterflies among thickets of ivy, and are usually the first butterflies to appear out of hibernation during the first spell of warm weather after winter. Though in my area I usually see Small Tortoiseshells or Peacocks first.

Up, up, flight I dream.

This is straight from the camera, with some cropping.

I like this, but debated posting. Comments, good or bad are greatly appreciated.

Have a great day everyone and thanks for the visit.

On my morning walk today I was enjoying the crisp clear air and colorful Sycamore leaves when a Flicker flew by me flashing his brilliant salmon colored wings. What a delight!

So, i got a new toy, one of my first flights and only really just getting the hang of it. Lots of ideas... :-)

A trip out to the Chilterns in Oxfordshire to photograph Red Kites with a couple of my photo buddies. We just happened to pick the hottest day in 2020 with no clouds in the sky.

Beautiful little Finch in flight. House Finch? Purple? Either way, beautiful!

Continuing the story. Did everything go wrong that day? The balloon shown in the previous photos has failed.

When, like other viewers, I moved away from the take-off site, I saw numerous balloons in the sky. The starts from the remaining places were successful. The sight of numerous balloons in the sky compensated for the earlier disappointment a little.

The photo shows one of the many balloons flying over the city.

In this approach, I also liked the consistency of colors - a yellow balloon for warm air, a yellow t-shirt of a random passer-by and all this decorated with warm yellow light of the late afternoon.

I end this photo with a series of balloons.
