A pair of Ring Necked Ducks are on the move during a March snowfall.

I normally would shoot these BIF shots at a higher shutter speed, but these went from relatviely static subjects to fast moving ones very quickly and with the overcast low-light conditions I was shooting with, I was only at 1/500 and didn't have time to adjust. I honestly found the blur in the wings helped in conveying the element of movement though in the image.

Fledgling Burrowing Owl tentatively flies up from the ground, about three feet below, while a sibling looks on. "Once the babies hatch, mom stays with them while dad hunts for food for the family. The little owls will come out of the burrow two weeks to a month after hatching, but will go no further than the burrow's entrance for the time being. Now, both mom and dad will forage for food. The burrowing owl's diet consists of small rodents, reptiles, and insects. When the owlets are about 44 days old...

I dont usually do birds in flight, but as ive been not able to spend much money during lockdown.. Ive upgraded my Canon 7Dmk1 to a 7Dmk2 and the difference is huge! Im over the moon! Tracking birds in flight justs feels effortless compared to the mk1. So thought id share this photo taken with me new 7Dmk2 :)

The Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus) is is a communal bird in the winter months, when upwards of ten or more may be spotted searching the same field for mousy treats. These stunning and gregarious owls benefited greatly from mankind's agricultural revolution, as they adore hunts on such fields. In fact, whenever such a field exists, they'll even sleep in them during the day, nestled away in tall grasses. Sure, short-ears will roost in trees when absolutely necessary, but only begrudgingly when thick blankets of snow have stolen their grassy hillocks. Interestingly, their hoots have always sounded a bit like a cross between dog barking and cat mewling to me!
