At the Manchester Flickr meet, I took a wander along the canal from the centre of town out towards Castlefield. Just as we approached Eastgate House I spotted the sun coming through and lighting up these arches and wanted to grab a shot to show off the brilliant warm sunshine coming through at high level.
The only way that I could get what I wanted was to take 5 exposures at ±0.7 intervals and then blend the exposures in photomatix rather than going for a HDR processing.
Import into LightRoom and then nominal tweaking to correct a small area of sky that had blown despite stopping down the overall exposures by half a stop before bracketing.
I'm really pleased with the tones in the arches as that's the part I wanted to catch as the sunlight had such a warmth for a few minutes which was not typical of the day at all.
This is the first public version of this tool. Please its very very beta.

I think I am about 4 years here, around 1981
This is a photo from a photo, since my scanner is so old that it does not work with OSes past windows 95 :)

I clicked on the MyFlickrYear link at the beginning of December and it gave me an accurate result for that time. But since then a different photo took off and made it into Explore on Christmas day, making it my most faved photo of 2024. I cannot find a way to refresh/update the MyFlickrYear link to reflect the current stats, so I’m making my own. Here’s a link to what is now my most popular photo of 2024:
It is true. I have made the decision that I am leaving the wonderful world of flickr. Things are so busy that I don't have time to keep up with it - and so I am removing my images and letting my account expire.

Well, I finally bought my first lens of 2012. I'm the new owner of a Sigma 30mm f/1.4! I was very worried with buying this lens and using it on my 7D because of a lot of focusing and quality control issues with this lens I heard of. After some micro adjusting tests and found mind to be best around +5. Though the difference was slight from zero. Needless to say I think I got a good copy. I'm looking forward to doing some portrait work to test it further and take it with me to Disney from some low light and ride photographs.

This picture turned out bad. The lights was so bad. Willow doesn't look into the camera and Kiwi just looks wierd. But the other pictures was horrible.
