Multi-flashes. This is the result of playing with multiple flashes - all off-camera. The primary lighting is from my ringflash held off to the right side. Backlighting from a diffused slave flash head, and finally lighting from the left from bounced light from a third flash. The conclusion - I have a lot to learn about studio lighting !

Second photo of three: Museum-quality mimetite specimen from Morocco, seen at the Tucson Rock and Gem Show this year. The entire piece is about 16" long and weighs about 8 pounds. See the other two images for more detail. This is the finest piece I've ever seen and for a mere $1,700 it could have come home with me. As usual my best collecting is with my camera.

This guy was the most photogenic of the bunch. His shirt exposed well, his hair always did dramatic things, and his arms and legs were everywhere. Here's my favorite of the night. Minor editing: denoise, levels, saturation, crop.

I used a SB-800 on a fine dinner (a 'sittning') I was attending during KVIT last week. That was a LOT of fun.

Weather cancelled my trip back today so I took advantage of an extra evening in Florida and did another sunset. Images and an animation of the omega sunset and subsequent green flash.
I think the juvenile got a bit too close and the older one kicked off.

First time using flash on snowflakes...i didn't know it'll turn out like this, I like it :)

Oh shit there's been a nuclear explosion somewhere ..,. hit FLATTEN 800-900 contracts , a couple hundred thousand lost in 30 seconds .. photon got the fill to the tick at the time ... only photon could do this ... must be a nuclear blast ... ended day unchanged ... sometimes your best trades are making back losses ... empowering yourself by making back losses, proving yourself ... all old traders have a thick skin

Macro Monday - theme: DIY
I made brackets like these for each of my flash units. When a flash is on an umbrella adapter with an umbrella, with this bracket it's flat and very close to the stem of the umbrella, aimed along the center axis (instead of 5"-8" offset in typical position on an umbrella adapter). Also, the weight of the flash unit counter-balances the umbrella better.
