Sprotbrough Flash
Sprotbrough Flash (4)
Sprotbrough Flash lies in the gorge of the River Don and is a favourite for Yorkshire naturalists.
Our Rating:
This 28 hectare reserve is managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and is located only 1 mile from the A1 (junction 36) just south of Sprotbrough village itself.
The focal point is the lake, however this reserve also includes grassland and woodland that provide habitats for many wildlife species.
Getting there is pretty straight forward by bus, car or even boat should you wish to arrive at Sprotbrough Lock. There are limited car parking spaces on Nursery Lane, however the The Boat Inn kindly caters for those visitors to the Flash who intend to enjoy some food or drink after their walk.
The footpaths are a mixture of public and permissive trails and 0.5 miles of footway are considered wheelchair friendly. Dogs are required to be kept on a lead.
The reserve is open at all times and if you would like further information contact the YWT Reserve Manager at info@ywt.org.uk

Tired of those dim dark northern winter days? You need a Big Bright Light!
Seated in front of a flash powered soft box. No other effective illumination due to the power of the flash.

Definitely having issues with my fill flash. For some reason it's only lighting the top half of the frame, which happened to look cool for this shot, but absolutely terrible for everything else.
Strobist setup: SB-900 with a CL umbrella softbox camera left. Sun right of model. Triggered with Skyport. ND filter for 3 stops.
Introduced in the early 1950s , for use with the larger reflectors .One side clear transparant plastic ,for protective purposes in case the flashing lamp might shatter , the other less transparant side for the same purpose but also serving as a diffuser for the flashlight .
The RES 'Blue Flash' logo and Rail express systems branding on the side of 94302. RES had a very short life from 1991 to 1996 when the company was bought by Wisconsin Central which absorbed RES into English Welsh and Scottish Railway.

I recently bought an Ã…lienbees flash unit and have been trying to figure it out. It's kind of hard to do solo. Lot's of shoot, get up and look, adjust, shoot get up and look, etc., etc.
Technical Notes: An SB800 on 1/32 power in a beauty dish with a translucent cover about 6 feet away and about 6 feet off the ground. I had a silver-side reflector below (at about chest level) and a 500 watt shop light slightly behind me. I used a the PC cord that came with the flash unit. I shot it it with a Nikon D80, 105/2.8 at 1/200 with an aperture of 7 on ISO 100. (check the properties for more). I shot this in a 36" wide hallway with cream colored walls, so that probably bounced all kind of light around. I was sitting at the end of the hall, just inside the door opening.
