Brighton is a Day Trip away from mainland Europe. Many school parties from France, Holland and Germany come to gawp at the decaying 19th Century splendour of Brighton (all originally funded by slavery, industrial revolution and Empire) - as well as peering bemusedly at their English counterparts lying drunk and stoned in pools of their own vomit in the gutter.
On this occasion a group of clean limbed, fresh faced European Mainlanders get caught out by a spot of flash flooding - as a road turns into a river - caused by Brighton's unique micro climate.

An accidental discovery. I was out trying to get a shot of the full moon and playing with the settings on the G11. The flash went off and illuminated the branches of one of the trees in the front yard. It was a neat effect in the twilight.
Led flash diffuser. This diffuser will be built Into the LED flash module. I have a gap of 38mm stamped for the Mitutoyo lens.

Softball is a 12 inch type, not 9 inch as market on the picture!
PCB for Cree led flash module. Inside the opening for the Mitutoyo 10X lens. The 12 power leds are not solderd but connected via 24 x M2 brass screws which press on the led contacts. I can even modify LED types with the same module. Soon there will be another picture where the LEDs are mounted.
The 12 LEDs are divided into 6 groups. Each time there are two LEDs connected together on the PCB. LEDs shine through the 12 holes of 8mm diameter each. Each group can be controlled separately. The direction and amount of light may be a result set.

when I popped the flash up the shutter speed has stopped at MY "flash sync speed" of 1/250th, so not only has the flash come on to illuminate the foreground, but more "ambient light" is being recorded at a slightly S L O W E R time (think about it)

Spent the day yesterday at the Pittsburgh stop of the "Flash Bus" tour with Mr. Strobist himself, David Hobby, and world famous photographer Joe McNally. I can't say that I learned a great deal (which is good I guess) but it is always inspiring to see these guys at work. Well worth every penny.
This was taken with the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye and de-fished in DxO Optics Pro. I also used this as a bit of a Photoshop experiment since it was a pretty drab day.
I've never before seen flash lightning this sustained or widespread . Shot looking east from San Diego. This lighting was going before an hour pre-dawn walk and still going after the end of the walk. A tremendous amount of energy release.
Hurricane Hilary is forecast to arrive with wind and rain tonight. This lightning could be part of that system.
A good possibility these flashes are the "sprites" recorded by an astronaut aboard the ISS, associated with hurricane Milton and Florida, at

These are tiny (under 4 inches) Godzilla vinyl figures from Bandai in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Flash Mob is meant to be fun but I saw some kids in the States use it to grab and steal in a flash…. Terrible!!
no flash, so movement is captured, but faces are rather blurred, nice strobo-light effect, though. I don't know, which one is better.

- 20 steps @ 15 um -> Zerene stacking.
- ControlMyNikon software to connect the PC.
Here I need a lot of rings to mount the componon lens. The Original DIY adaptor was designed for the 62mm front on the macro lens.
Made from a cardboard box, aluminum foil and wood glue. It is designed for two flashes to be placed at either end, but only one flash is used in this photo. The backboard of the ring flash consists of three layers of cardboard glued together for extra strength. The front panel and side panels are just just one layer thick.
This is my Flash micro hero I made. I have already made a Superman based off his appearance in the upcoming movie Man of Steel. This is what I think Flash would look like if he ever had his own movie or if there was ever a Justice League movie.
