back to Tokyo for one more day and the crazy runners at the Tsujiki Fish market. These guys stop for nothing or nobody. They´re probably the single most dangerous element to visiting the market. You always have to be on yr toes with these guys as they zoom the fish purchases to the trucks awaiting delivery.

Flowers. Caryota maxima Blume ex Mart. Arecaceae. CN; [Malay - Rabok gunung], Giant mountain fishtail palm. Distribution - Mountain forests of China, Java, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia and S. Thailand. In peninsular Malaysia distributed in montane forest at 1000-1500 m of the Main Range. Solitary fishtail palm to 30 m tall; A bottle-shaped single trunk with annular rings and a brown to cinnamon color. The big leaves have brown velvety sheaths, and the leaflets resemble a fishtail. Fruits are pinkish or reddish.

Mt. Machupuchare, also knows as the fishtale, is THE landmark of the Annapurna circuit, near Pokhara.

'Giant Fishtail Palm' seedling, a palm species from the northern mountains of Thailand. It's been in the ground for two weeks already and has already produced it's second seedling leaf. This palm can grow to spectacular proportions. Here is a picture of an adolescent example of this species.

 

Another great thing about this plant is that it can tolerate occasional winter dips into the 20's F (below 0C)
