My trusty old M51-copy from Ben Sherman drew it's last breath during Mods vs Rockers in Stockholm this weekend. Luckily enough I came home with a genuine reissue american military M65 in size small (I've been searching for one that's reasonably priced for a while now). I got it from a friend. Almost unused too.

The Machapuchare, seen from Pothana, Nepal 2011

If you get up at sunrise to see Fishtail, and you linger, you will see the mountain gradually disappear as the haze seems to cover it up as the sun rises. Consequently, even on clear days, there is an invisible cloak over the mountain and it can't be seen. One afternoon, the cloak had 'disappeared' and we saw the mountain visible during the day. Our guide said this is unusual, but here it is: Fishtail in the afternoon

This image shows one of the flow structures generated from the collision of two impinging jets with radius of 420um. The rapid flash illumination reveals a fish-like formation for dilute polymer fluids: the oval sheet with rims corresponds to the fish head, drops on thin ligaments to its body, and bigger free drops at the end to its tail. The viscoelasticity of the polymer in the fluid resists detachment of the drops from the ligament. This image was adjusted for hue and contrast, and rotated by 90 degrees for effect.

Sungjune is doing a PhD at Engineering department.

"We are particularly interested in the formation of a liquid sheet which then breaks up into a regular succession of longitudinal jets and droplets, a so-called "fluid fishbone". The fishbone phenomenon provides a simple and visual tool to evaluate the properties of inkjet printing fluids with which the fishbone structure sensitively varies."

The image was taken using a Nikon D40X with a 105mm lens and a Xenon flash lamp with ~1us duration.

Fishtail was given its name because the peaks represent the split tail of a fish. It is traditionally seen in the highlands of Nepal, but only at dawn, because the cloud cover causes it to "disappear" after sunrise. The mountain is frequently photographed at dawn, hence the dark sky and the glinting sunlight.

During the waning of the Pleistocene in South America, human populations had to deal with the harsh rigors of the prevailing climate and, perhaps as a consequence, occupied different parts of the great continent at intervals. In some regions, the occupants coexisted with such soon-to-be-extinct animals as mastodons and giant ground sloths, and the tools they used were of wood, bone, and stone. Parts of what is now Chile were inhabited, with living sites at Monte Verde (10,500–9500 B.C.) in the south-central region and Fell's Cave (9000–8000 B.C.) in Patagonia.

Fell's Cave, a rock shelter in the valley of the Río Chico not far from the Strait of Magellan, was initially occupied by hunters who left behind an impressive layer of refuse. Sealed by hundreds of pounds of debris from the fall of the shelter overhang, the hunter's refuse included firepits with the broken bones of native horse, sloth, and guanaco as well as stone and bone tools. Among the stone tools were fishtail spearpoints, a form of stone point found in many places in South America. Fishtail points are flaked bifacially (that is, worked on both sides) and have pronounced shoulders above a clearly shaped stem. Some are fluted with small channels removed from the bottom. In 1936–37, the discoveries in Fell's Cave represented the first evidence of early humans in South America. Since then, older sites such as Monte Verde have been identified.
