Today I headed over to Inverallochy / Cairnbulg, East of Fraserburgh to capture a shot of the decaying Sovereign BF30 Fishing Vessel that ran aground near to the Briggs light beacon. It happened on a stormy night on 18/12/05 . All crew were plucked to safety being airlifted by the RAF sea-king. For developing and Processing I used my new lightroom CC HDR merge function for the first time to try it out. It is thought that this wreck inspired the artwork for the movie "life of Pi"

A ride with local fishermen in their boats sharing the traditional experience and skills of these men who live in harmony with the Nile. Shot from Besaw island some 100km north of Aswan.

This is a hut from Dungeness, Kent, taken a few years ago. I saw a recent image by Dave Seargeant which shows the same hut very much in decay. Sad. So I thought I need to get my photos out which I took over the years and post them before they show "ancient" history. All the wooden buildings seem to come to the end of their lifetime and nobody seems to put anything new up. Which is probably a good thing. Here is a link to Dave's photograph:

Roxana City is known as the seafood capital of the Philippines

Cala Figuera is a district of Santanyí on the island of Majorca, in the Balearic Islands of Spain, around 60 km to the south east of Palma. Cala Figuera is a small traditional fishing community. The town of Cala Figuera stretches from high cliffs to the south of the town to the fishing harbour at the end of a Fjord-like inlet which holds some of the most picturesque traditional buildings in the whole of Majorca, as well as a number of millionaires' mansions overlooking the scenic harbour entrance.

There were lots of folks fishing on the Fox River at McHenry Dam State Park, Illinois, when I stopped by on a recent afternoon. The more lines one puts out, the better one's odds of a bite, I suppose. I liked the way that the backlighting brought out the pattern of the crisscrossing lines in this scene.

Off Mulinetti, under the fading twilight of the Gulf of Paradise, a fisherman steers his small blue boat into the night. The nets await to be collected with their precious cargo, among the gentle waves, while the sea breathes in its slow, ancient rhythm. A daily ritual, suspended between silence, labor, and wonder.

Every year during the monsoon season Tonle Sap lake, Cambodia overflows and floods the surrounding low lands. To cope with this annual flood, people build their houses on high stilts, or establish floating villages that migrate from the lake to the surrounding rivers as the waters rise and fall. This image of a fisherman in his dugout canoe is from Kampong Phluk stilt village on the Tahas River, during the monsoon when Tonle Sap overflows into the river.

From Chaos, Order

In fishing nets and ropes lies an entire world – a story of hard work, of the sea that gives and takes, of life always seeking balance.

Chaos and order – two faces of the same truth.

Kaos i red

U ribarskim mrežama i konopima nalazi se cijeli svijet – priča o mukotrpnom radu, o moru koje daje i uzima, o životu koji uvijek traži ravnotežu.

Kaos i red – dva lica iste istine.

Abandoned and weather-beaten on Dungeness Beach.

Recently demolished.

The characteristic huge fishing nets (the so-called "retoni") that can be found at the mouth of the Arno river create a suggestive scenario, especially in cold winter months. It is as if time has come to a standstill, the palafitte huts remain as proof of the tradition of Pisa fishermen: fish is sold fresh.

Mooching around Newlyn harbour I came across containers of new nets and floats waiting to be loaded on to a trawler, getting funny looks from the deckhands, I mooched on.....

Deep trawling...of my hard drive of course.

Hard to believe this was Spain just a few months ago.

Take it as a visual metaphor for the current times we’re experiencing...although it may look like a right royal mess at the moment, once we plateau the virus, we should get back to some version of normal.

Fishing boat safer on dry land??

Kilnsea

Apologies for the overload of groyne picture, but I walked the three mile stretch of beach from Kilnsea to the end of Spurn Point and back. Every set of these structures are just slightly different and I think make for a good photo.
