this week, my jeep turns 11.... my first and only car i have ever owned...
she has been to both the pacific and atlantic oceans, been four wheelin at 13000 feet, raced a baby moose at flaming gorge, transported around 8 or 9 people around grand teton for a friends wedding, drive-in'd, drove the vegas strip, parked in manhattan, cruised the california coast, plated in colorado and california (soon illinois), rolled safely into the butte after an insane crossing of wolf creek pass... oh god there have been so many more good times in this truck...
156 thousand miles on her and she is still going strong.
Brockys Big Day Out

Theoretically I could reconstruct the vehicle as an original, just using this item. I'm thinking about it. The paddock bomb served me well, I guess, but then I wanted to get on the track. I had a great hunger to get on the other side of that guardrail. ...' [0]
Noticed in the paper yesterday that the Peter Brock Big Day Out was being held in Hurstbridge, not far from where I grew up. So I just had to go. It featured the first outing for Brockys original Austin Seven Paddock bomb he had as a 13 year old. I grabed a picture of it, 2006SEP120955 from the TV interview with Peter Thompson replayed this year.
Here was my chance to get a photo of the thing before it gets restored and displayed at the Winton Speedway at sometime soon in the future.
While the paddock bomb looks in bad shape there is not much to be done to get the engine running and restoring the machine to *original condition*. In the first incarnation the jallopy had no brakes so Brocky learnt to slide it to stop.

Yep, inherited the silver rabbit and painted it blue. Drove this my Sophomore year, age 16, until it died the middle of my Junior year. Note the NJROTC t-shirt.

As my previous car suffered from major exhaust pipe injury (see here) and the repair cost would have exceeded its current value, it was time to get a new one…
I found this one on the BMW website, so I called the dealer (BMW Eichhorn in Obernburg/Bavaria) and traveled there on Saturday morning to do a test drive. I bought the Bimmer one hour later. :)
The 320d was officially my first car—at least regarding the title. :)
Lookin' forward to the first ride.. ! Tried that yesterday, stalled lots, didn't go so well - he should be ready today, though.

The hatch is a pretty rare body style for my Civic. I had a guy come up to me once and ask "how much?" I didn't want to sell it!
John's Brother Peter stood with his first car. He was probably he brightest person the family ever produced, and earned good money in the thirties, as he was commissioned into working on early-warning and RADAR rather than being allowed to join the usual forces.
After the war he left for America where he worked for the newly formed NASA space agency assisting with the space-race against the Soviets.
When the US public enthusiasm for space flight dwindled in the 1970's, he left for the nation with the next largest space agency. This was the USSR of course, but unwilling to join those he helped to defeat in the space race, he turned to Canada.
There he stayed until his death in 2008.
