As big as its name. My first car, from my dad. That thing was a great big ol' boat. Great for getting me and my friends around. =)
Its story
You can see a couple of the stickers that were previously hanging on my wall here on this bumper.
Brockys Big Day Out
'... This little trinket is the radiator surround off my paddock bomb I built when I was 13-year-old. Little Austin 7 bit. Theoretically I could reconstruct the vehicle as an original, just using this item. I'm thinking about it. The paddock bomb served me well, I guess, but then I wanted to get on the track. I had a great hunger to get on the other side of that guardrail. ...' [0]
Noticed in the paper yesterday that the Peter Brock Big Day Out was being held in Hurstbridge, not far from where I grew up. So I just had to go. It featured the first outing for Brockys original Austin Seven Paddock bomb he had as a 13 year old. I grabed a picture of it, 2006SEP120955 from the TV interview with Peter Thompson replayed this year.
Here was my chance to get a photo of the thing before it gets restored and displayed at the Winton Speedway at sometime soon in the future.
Note there is no seat here. A lot of professional video production going around to the left of the shot, no doubt recording the event. There's not a lot of stock footage of Brocky as it's tied up with commercial interests but this machine, captured on super-8" way back in the 50's shows the great spirit of hacking something togther out of nothing. Read the references to understand what I mean.
Brocky built his understanding of cars from an old Austin Seven, literally hacked the body off with his mums wood chopping ax and created something to play with. You can learn a lot from this. For me it was a great opportunity to see the car before it gets restored.
More to come.

I love this picture, he looks so proud. It took a few weeks to save for his insurance and he could only look at it during that time.
My first car, A243ASJ, looking across the Tay from Fife. Bought from Invergowrie Motors in October 1994, just after I passed my test.
Owned until approx March 1996, and did 29,000 miles in it. It was a Ford Fiesta Popular, which was very basic, but a great car at the time...not sure what I'd make of it now!

The Nova runs strong with a new 5-speed tranny - Bobby is replacing the rear Quarter-panel so the car is dusty .
This is a picture that my mom took with her camera in April 2009 when I brought home my first car from the dealer. I only obtained a copy of this picture a few months ago, so I decided to post it here...and give it some retro processing to make it look like how I pictured a "first car picture" would look!
My oldest daughter Stephanie turns 19 this summer and has been woking this past year (took a year off after graduation) saving to go to college and decided to get her own car, with alittle help from Mom and Dad. So here is her new ride a 2007 Chevey Cobalt.
About 1978, Craig Knapp with First Car, 1976 Dodge Dart at home on Riverside Drive, along the Saint Joseph River in Constantine, Michigan.
Dogtowning it on the driveway with my bro on our first skateboard. We have longboards now but I think we'd both rather have that homemade deck in our collection now than any big name board.
This pic was taken by Dad in May of '82 and rescanned from a print recently. I thought it was a blast when I found it on Mikey's crackbook page. There's so many little hints and reminders of our childhood in here-- things I had forgotten.
That's my first Civic in the back, A 77, our "Happy Honda"... Because of growing up with it I have a lifetime thing for Hondas. Since then I think I've driven every model year of the Civic from 91 to the current 08s... Not that I was driving at the time, just riding shotgun and queueing up the 8-Track. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was one of only two tapes we had. The other one was "Country Roads".
I also see signs of our parallel development in this photo. Ultimately I chose cars as my vehicle and conveyance of choice. But he can't stand driving-- just loathes it. It's bus or longboard if there's no other ride. Course he lives in VC where there is almost (not quite) a longboarder lane. (Wouldn't that be nice? Sheez.)
It is a limited edition 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee in Forest Green with tan leather interior. In fantastic condition...the couple that owned it used it only for road trips outside of town.
You did good Ashley for your $$$.
