My little sister got her license last week and picked out her first car today. I must say I'm quite jealous and sad at the same time. Jealous of the car, sad to see her grow up into an amazing person. For someone I used to shove around when I was little now I enjoy every minute spent. I love you baby sis!
I'm not sure which is more embarrassing: the picture or the conversation I had with the photographer where I shared my artistic vision.
The very first 3200-series car is currently assigned to the Orange Line, seen here arriving at the Washington/Wells station.
Overhauling the brakes on Mum's old car.
Which she only drove once! While I was teaching her to drive, the steering wheel came off in her hands! We were crossing the rail bridge at Wahroonga station, I grabbed the wheel and stuffed it back on and continued across, whereupon she gave up driving..
I was 18 and one year into a new job and career, I used it for a few years to go to the beach, Palm Beach, Sydney, and to a few dances, Young Legacy parties, Church(would you believe), and movies....Then I started Caving!! and bought a Beetle.. www.flickr.com/photos/spelio/2174392966/

My youngest daughter picked up her first car today! She bought it on Sunday. She's still on L Plates for now but she's doing good!
A 1941 Plymouth Coupe, the same as my first car right down to the color (pictured in my People and Vehicles set). We were both 16. This one was for sale. I exercised great restraint in not asking the price. Kind of wish now that I had but do I really need a third car?!? Hardly put any miles on my present two. And yet...

This was my first car. A complete beast. It was so "uncool" it actually became cool HA HA. Sometimes I wish I still owned this car. There was that one time when...
My first car I got around 1989... I miss it! Ford no longer makes these anymore... It's a shame, because it was a great car. I had it for about 10 years and it never had any problems, except for a few minor things...
The first 3200-series car stopped at Washington/Wells. A Pink Line train is off in the distance, waiting to make the turn from Wells westbound onto Lake. The Orange Line train will stay in the Loop, turning east on Lake.
Hannah asked if she could crawl inside for a photo. I told her, sure I would love a picture of her inside the car, then I teased her that this would be her first car. She thought that was comical, but wouldn't it be something if I was able to restore this old junker to it's formal glory and present it to her on her 16th birthday? Just a thought.
It was the summer of 1969. I just turned 21 going into my senior year of college. After working the summer at the Chevy engine plant in Flint, MI I could afford to buy my own car. It was 6 years old and cost $450 but I was as proud as could be. Mine was white and didn't look this good but other than that it was the same as this. Ahhh memories. I traded it in March, 1971 on a Nova. I would love to have that car back.
A vintage picture of a car belonging to the Gama Pinto family of Anjuna along with the family members, attired in the prevailing popular fashion of the day... the period hats (including the Hindu gentlemen with his own black cap). The car is parked in front of a premier photo studio - Reis da Costa - way back more than a century ago in Mapusa, Goa. The rare black and white photograph blends two distinct aspects of Bardez; while the Gama Pinto household was prominent in Anjuna and the first one to possess a car in the village, every other newly wed couple posed proudly for their memorable wedding photograph, in the entire Bardez taluka in Goa, probably at Reis da Costa (Artista, Fotografo Premiado), in Mapusa town at that time. The coastal village of Anjuna and its beautiful beaches, of course, form the haunt of every world traveler today. The rare, beautiful picture was certainly captured by the lensman of "Reis da Costa". Brockys Big Day Out
'... This little trinket is the radiator surround off my paddock bomb I built when I was 13-year-old. Little Austin 7 bit. Theoretically I could reconstruct the vehicle as an original, just using this item. I'm thinking about it. The paddock bomb served me well, I guess, but then I wanted to get on the track. I had a great hunger to get on the other side of that guardrail. ...' [0]
Noticed in the paper yesterday that the Peter Brock Big Day Out was being held in Hurstbridge, not far from where I grew up. So I just had to go. It featured the first outing for Brockys original Austin Seven Paddock bomb he had as a 13 year old. I grabed a picture of it, 2006SEP120955 from the TV interview with Peter Thompson replayed this year.
Here was my chance to get a photo of the thing before it gets restored and displayed at the Winton Speedway at sometime soon in the future.
This particular shot is of the Austin Seven in its unrestored state looking from the radiator. Note the bare frame, no seats. This is a bare metal hand built paddock bomb.

This is me with my first car, a Toyota Tercel. I had just returned from a trip to New York to see my dad, and had just met the man who would become the love of my life, and the great tragedy of it. This was taken outside my friend, Bunny's house. Bunny took the pic.
I was 33 at the time.

This is a photograph of my girlfriend (now wife) that I took 24 years ago. I was 17 and she was 16. She's standing next to her first car, the Dodge Colt.

Note there is no seat here. A lot of professional video production going around to the left of the shot, no doubt recording the event. There's not a lot of stock footage of Brocky as it's tied up with commercial interests but this machine, captured on super-8" way back in the 50's shows the great spirit of hacking something togther out of nothing. Read the references to understand what I mean.
Brocky built his understanding of cars from an old Austin Seven, literally hacked the body off with his mums wood chopping ax and created something to play with. You can learn a lot from this. For me it was a great opportunity to see the car before it gets restored.
More to come.

2001 -- fresh with my learner's permit my sophomore year of school! I inherited my dad's 1990 Toyota Corolla, affectionately called the Red Bomb, and drove the wheels off that thing. By the time I got a new car (another Toyota Corolla!) in 2004, the Bomb had more than 202,000 miles on it. Win!
