It's all the rage in my neighbourhood to have a fire pit and enjoy a summer's evening pretending you're camping.
Why is it we're so fascinated by fire? And why does it have to start so young? We had another bonfire tonight, trying to get the garden back under control, and I took the opportunity to talk to my seven-year-old about fire, about respect for it and how dangerous it can be if not controlled. He's a good boy and he listened, and was lecturing Mrs Mac about it over dinner, so I have some hope.
No boys were harmed during the making of this photo...

This is a picture that was taken by a friend of mine in British Columbia. He lives in the Okanogan (sp?), and this was last summer when there was, not only a lightning storm, but a forest fire in progress.

This is a gas flame going into a hot-air balloon as it is about to lift off over Kenya's Maasai Mara at sunrise.
This one shot at night reminds me of the head of a dragon, emerging from the chaos and steam resulting from lava entering the ocean. Amazing display of power again, day or night, I think I am addicted to lava :)

Fire in an old-fashioned fireplace presenting a cosy image for a cold winter's day. Just the thing to roast your chestnuts on!
