I think I have better result after I bought a more powerful lighter after dinner. The visibility of the smoke is largely affected by the strength of the strobe. But if I set the strobe to full power then it won't recharge quick enough for continuous shots.

Fivepointville Fire Co in PA had an open house. Kids could climb into the fire trucks and they lined the equipment up to show.
The Fire Brigade were out in force. Minutes earlier, another engine had come down this way on priorities. This one cruised sedately down the street, then came back travelling just as sedately back. I almost expected someone to lean out of the cab and shout "where's the fire?"

I really wanted to wander through and snap photos of all the tents - there were hundreds - but fire camps aren't usually open to the pubic. (Edit: The more I look at this photo, the more I hate it. It's terrible. And only I know that I'm looking at tents. I need to be a better editor.)

The neighbourhoods of Jardin Del Mar and El Limonar were awoken in the early hours of Thursday morning, to the sound of explosions and glass smashing under the heat of a fire at the Centrocan pet superstore.
It is not yet known what caused the fire to break out which has completely gutted the building, leaving nothing more than a burnt out shell. It is hoped that the animals that are housed on the premises may have survived as the flames were concentrated on the upper floor of the building.
The Centrocan van was seen driving away from the property to a place of safety, which has given more hope that the animals may have been rescued. One witness said "I can't imagine what it will be like for someone who has left there pet overnight with the vet, only to return tomorrow to find the worst"
Smoke could be seen from miles around as the Bomberos tried to extinguish the flames. Explosions and gaseous flames hindered the progress, resulting in over an hour of fire fighting to get the flames under control. Firefighters were seen to be exhausted by their attempts, whilst both the Local Police and the Guardia Civil worked closely together to keep the gathering crowds at a safe distance.

Tonight we roasted hotdogs over a lovely fire. I roasted some veggie dogs. They were alright but I still prefer beef.

Built a fire in our outdoor Kiva fireplace. It was a bit warm considering the temperature was still around 78 degrees. The neighbors probably thought we were nuts!!

An overnight fire has caused extensive damage to an historic Mississauga home.
The Ontario Fire Marshal and Peel Regional Police’s criminal investigations bureau are investigating the blaze, which broke out at 21 Main Street in Streetsville at 1:45 a.m. on Sunday.
It took six crews to put out the flames, which took approximately 20 minutes, said Mississauga Fire district chief George Dean.
There were no injuries to report, as the building had been vacant and uninhabitable for several years.
Dean said the home had been the site of mischief and vandalism in the past, but there had never been a fire-related issue until Sunday morning.
Property damage is currently being assessed, as is the cause.
Listed on the City of Mississauga’s website as the “Heron-Dandie House”, it was built in the 1830s and was originally a hotel owned by the family of Patrick Heron.
It was transferred in 1882 to William Bamford, a builder, and designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.
