This is the canal towpath that I always visit at every time of the year. I was feeling a bit depressed and sad these days due to my sister's health problems, now in the ICU at the hospital. The walk here made me feel a bit better, even though autumn is not showing its best colors due to the dry weather. I took a photo of the area with the most colorful trees. I hope it brings you peace and serenity, too.

Rachel using the Zenit-E kindly supplied to me by Wayne - Dragonfyre20 (Wayne). It is the exact model of 35mm film SLR I used when I was Rachel's age, and it is a wonder to me that she wants to find out what photography was like before anything automatic or even battery powered existed on camera. That's Historians for you!

Oh boy. This is a tough piece of advice to follow. I know I have been "accepting" what our lives have become with the pandemic restrictions; like not seeing our family or travelling. But to actually find joy in what I am doing instead is not always easy to do even after months of practice! I noticed even with photography that many people have turned to new lenses or tried out new techniques to keep the joy of photography alive. I must admit that I am finding some renewed joy in my macro lens and the new flowers in my garden. Then we had two baby Chickadees trying out their wings for the first time in our garden today. I guess I would have missed this event if I was off travelling somewhere. Still, I hope we all get to live our new normal soon.

Greetings Flickr friends -

Just a quick note to say I’ll be stepping back from Flickr for a little while. My husband is coming home from the hospital this Wednesday after a major surgery—and I’ll be focused on his care, keeping everything spotless, and making sure our dogs stay clear of his stitches.

I may not be posting or commenting much, but I’ll still be editing when I can—it’s my stress relief and creative escape. Thank you for your understanding and for being such a kind, inspiring community. I’ll be back when things settle down.

I am so excited, a local food photographer is hosting a 3-day workshop about creating a cookbook. A few years ago I put together a blog of my extended family's favorite recipes. I tried to make it special by adding videos and images but they were very amateurish. After doing some real soul searching, I discovered I want to make meaningful photos that tell stories and connect people. What better way to start than with my own family?

It's funny but I look back on my diary entries from when I was a kid and I always mentioned what I ate. I have disparaged and discounted the meaning and memories and now see that food has been important to me in ways I didn't honor or recognize. I love the way Andrew Scrivani speaks about food if you get a chance to watch he has a few you tube videos that are great.

It's been one year of social distancing and not hugging my adult children and grandchildren. Now that I'm days away from receiving my second vaccination, I find myself filled with anticipation of joy-filled moments with those I love. One way of saving my sanity was in painting with watercolors and ink. Here's to all of us moving toward happier days and calm nights. Best wishes to us all.
