Perhaps the end of the fall shots. I could see the wind yesterday taking the last of the leaves from the trees. At least I know we'll have it all to do again next year! (barring that whole Mayan thing of course. :) )
As heavy rains begin to set, CP 686 rolls into Milwaukee with a CSX MAC up front. Finally caught one of these.
Wandering Percher (Diplacodes bipunctata)
The first of these I have seen this season, and of course I didn't have my macro lens with me!
Ice-out in the marsh. The lake has finally cleared as well and the loons, as always, arrived immediately. It's been a long winter.
Explore #480 Well after about 45 days we finally got a sunset of any note. I looked out the window and squealed when I saw it, it was such an unfamiliar, yet comforting sight ;)
There is a series of new advertisements on the television here at the moment. They are about (un)complicating your life, (un)stressing (un)winding and generally putting more (un) into your life.
It goes on to say.... does it really matter if for one night in the week the kids have toast for dinner, or the floor does not get mopped for a few days (weeks...lol) but that is is more important to (un)wind...
I am really liking these ads for some reason, and I am not a TV ad junkie kinda gal. lol But the message there is solid and (un)deniable.... we do need more (un) in our life.
So what things do we need to (un) up in our day to day routines?? that will make our lives less (un)comfortable and more (un)deniably wonderful lol ...
see I am liking the (un)'s
Is it ok to sometimes say well I am sorry, but I am (un)able to do that.....and more importantly be (un)affected by that choice.
Can we just let ourselves be (un)armed and let go....and not have to have everything planned and in order...
I certainly do not think that that is (un)attainable :) In fact I think it is definitely not (un)relalistic to want that for ourselves sometimes.
If we have learned this behaviour of always having to DO, can it be (un)learned?
I do think this could (un)lock some of the daily stresses if we just let go sometimes and be a little more (un)neurotic lol Because are we really being the best we can when we are (un)rested, (un)happy and (un)fulfilled?
So here is to getting some more (un) in your life. I would like to be more (un) encumbered, (un)wrinked and (un)even lol just to name a few......
How about you...? What would you like to (un) ?
Think about it lol I promise it wont be to (un)comforting....
So here is to an (un)eventful Saturday , a (un)caring Sunday and a (un)Mondayitis Monday lol :) Car (ok I made unmondayitis up- sue me lol )

Had not been getting anything on our two small potted Lantana, no bees, butterflies, hummingbirds. Zippo, zilch, nada! :) Then I looked out to see this tiny skipper on one, finally! Only about 3/4 inch in length. Had to grab a photo. Hopefully others will follow. Normally get some of each of the above every year but not this year for some reason.
It took until November for our area to burst with the normal colors of October, but here they are at long last.

We've had a strange winter so far. Warm temperatures, sometimes even above freezing! I'm happy that we're finally getting some snow.

Took me a while, but I finally got a flight shot of Harlequin Ducks (Histrionicus histrionicus). These buggers are fast...I spotted these two drakes out of the corner of my eye, and had about 3 seconds to lock on and shoot before they blew past me. Wish I had some sun, but I'll take what is given!

For the past few days, this female Black-headed Grosbeak has been coming to the yard. I finally managed to get a few pictures of her yesterday on the garden gate as well as at the feeder.

I've been dreaming about this daylily since before it was created. When I was buying daylilies 8 years ago, I searched for a white one with yellow ruffles. There was no such thing. Now there is and here is its first blossom.
It's called Wedding Band.

The sun rises later in the mountains, and in winter, it doesn't rise at all in some mountain valleys. I started taking photos at 6:00 a.m., and a good three hours later, at 9:05 a.m., the sun finally rose over the Stucklistock (3,313 m).

It's been mostly Dark Sky July along the Central Coast of CA. This morning the sun finally broke through the gray mist. A pod of American White Pelicans (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) were feeding and I was ready; Sony a9; Sony 200-600mm lens at 543 mm; 1/3200 sec; f/9; 1600 ISO; Gitzo tripod; Morro Bay National Estuary; CA; USA
After weeks - at least in my mind - the sun came back and gave a a great light in the afternoon.
The Toni in the background is a university, the place in the foreground will receive a school house for first to sixth class, so the credit is approved in the voting next weekend.
The other day I noticed movement on the neighbour's driveway and thought bobcat ! But, no..... finally it's a coyote. I've been hoping to see one close enough to get a photo for ages....
We hear them and see them by themselves or in packs of up to 6 on the golf course; just trotting up and down the fence line from time to time.
I know they come out into our cul de sac every so often, but I've never been lucky enough to spot them.
This time I did, and ran for my camera....however, I was obviously too excited to get proper focus even with autofocus !! ...arrghhh..! however, the photos are good enough to document my beautiful coyote and I did get several.....
He/she stopped for this one when I opened the window and gently called to it ... it paused and looked at me for several seconds... then, made a little dive into the snow ... trying to look fierce ... and, perhaps hearing a vole beneath the snow.... but, then... just sauntered off across that yard and on to the next and so on down the block. I lost sight of it about 4 houses down ... and, of course have been wasting a lot of time looking out the windows ever since ..hoping for a second sighting.... so beautiful.

The man left the Ernst & Young office on a Saturday afternoon.
I've been waiting a long time for a really good opportunity to photograph this bird, a species that lives in my neighborhood but is one of the rarer visitors to the yard. Finally I got my shot when I came home from work today and--seeing a lot of activity--decided to spend some time yardbirding. This sapsucker came down to the fountain about three meters from me and spent several minutes bathing and looking right at me without any apparent concern. Aside from identifying a new species in the yard (I'm talkin to you, pileated woodpecker), nothing could have been better. Red-breasted sapsucker, backyard Olympia.
This F12 belongs to a University of Pittsburgh student and has been around Oakland since the late Fall but I've managed to miss seeing it on a daily basis despite living 5 minutes away from Pitt's campus. Luckily today my friend Jeff spotted it and sent me a text to let me know it was parked in a lot on campus. I grabbed my camera and jumped in the car and headed a few streets over as fast as I could. I'm so happy to have finally seen it, thanks again Jeff!!

Barred Owl with wild caught rodent. Cold outing today waiting for some owl huntin action. It paid off in the end.
I found this cute vintage egg basket on Etsy a while back, and I've been wanting to use it so bad! This is from a session a couple weeks ago - little Olivia, went from one prop to another - without even opening one eye!
Good morning everyone. And as the title indicates, I finally got some pics of a Red-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta Canadensis). Been a long time coming since I first spotted one a little over a month ago.
The day this was taken three appeared, but only briefly together. Plus with the colder temps they are now visiting daily. But you need to be there at the right time with camera in-hand when they do. Plus very patient as they are hyper little birds and rarely ever sit still for long.
Just two pics of the same bird on different tree limbs, of which the second one can be found in the comment section and my stream. And while it's difficult to differentiate between gender, I'm pretty sure this is a male.
Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you have a truly great day and weekend.
