Inspired by and Reimagined

"He bends the galaxies, not with might — but with will."

In the darkness of the stars stands the Arcanist — a being no longer bound by the laws of time or matter. His eyes burn like gateways to infinity, while he cradles a sphere of pure cosmic energy in his hands. Runes and circles of power orbit around him, and in the distance, planets and nebulae shimmer in eternal dance. This is no mere sorcerer of Earth, but a sovereign of the universe itself.

In the heart of a scorched world where skies bleed crimson and ash rains from above, the Infernal Core emerges — a towering cyber-demon forged in fire and voidtech. Clad in black armor engraved with silver filigree and illuminated by pulsating veins of violet and red energy, he walks with godlike menace through rivers of lava. Twin horns pierce the blood-lit sky, and eyes like molten suns stare with unrelenting malice. His body is a fusion of demonic wrath and advanced technology, built for destruction and domination. The earth cracks beneath him, the end is behind him, and war follows where he walks.

"You are not lost here. You are simply no longer being remembered."

Essence

A vast, frostbound plain where identity unravels in silence. The Pale Vale is not a realm of threat or malice, but of soft, inevitable erasure. To walk here is to dissolve, one memory at a time.

Environment

Endless fields of pale, silver-white grass that shimmer with lingering thoughts.

Crystalline trees with bare, ringing branches, grown from the bones of forgotten promises.

Snowfall made of mistflakes that vanish on contact, quietly taking pieces of one's sense of self.

Half-formed statues and echo-sculptures litter the land, their faces blurred or erased.

No wind. No sky. Only a pearl-colored void that pulses with forgotten longing.

Inhabitants & Entities

The Frostworn: Silent figures cloaked in drifting frost, formed from faded memories. They approach not to harm, but to reflect what you are losing.

The Veilhusk: Hollow remnants of beings who forgot their own names. They drift without purpose, vanishing if remembered.

Wailshards: Fragments of shattered memory-mirrors, whispering lost hopes in frozen tones.

The Last Echo: A presence that appears as someone you once knew, or almost did. It speaks with your voice, or one you miss.

Hazards

Frost of Forgetting: Prolonged exposure causes travelers to lose memories and emotional anchors.

Silence Pulse: Periodic waves of absolute stillness that freeze thought and unravel intention.

Echo Drain: Significant memories fade unless actively recalled and spoken aloud.

Mystical Features & Mechanics

Memory Stones: Pillars that can anchor parts of the self. Touching one and naming a truth protects that part of your memory.

Voice Trials: Travelers must voice a forgotten truth to pass deeper into the Vale; silence leads to partial erasure.

Themes

Quiet erosion of identity.

Peaceful oblivion vs. the will to be remembered.

The line between death and being forgotten.

Bathed in a vortex of crackling magenta lightning and cosmic fire, the Nyxar Highborn emerges—a warlord of a lost dimension where technology and arcane might have fused into divine terror. Their obsidian skin is etched with runes of power, while biomechanical armor pulses with living circuitry. Glowing eyes pierce through reality, a sign of their psychic mastery over thought and destruction. Twin horns curl like obsidian crowns, framing a visage both regal and wrathful. This is not a demon, but a god of war reborn in the age of dark stars.

Condemned by gods, forgotten by men — he walks the line between nightmare and legend.

Known only as The Masked Damnation, he is a soul bound in blackened steel, his visage sealed beneath a mask etched with ancient gothic filigree and cursed runes. His burning eyes, twin embers of unending torment, are the last light many see before oblivion.

The armor he wears is more than protection — it is a prison. Each engraved plate a record of sin, each silver motif a sigil of his eternal servitude. He is not death. He is punishment.

In crypts, battlefields, and silent sanctuaries, his legend endures — not as a hero or villain, but as a warning: never break the vow that forges the mask.

Title: Lord of the Withered Abyss

Realm: The Thirteenth Veil — a forgotten dimension where light is devoured and the screams of the condemned echo eternally.

Description:

Xar'Kul the Soulbinder stands as a relic of the first war between the Void and Flame. His cracked obsidian flesh is laced with infernal veins that pulse with imprisoned souls, glowing with a crimson fury. Twin blackened horns curve like ancient blades from a crown of calcified dread, and his eyes burn with an eternal hunger — not for blood, but for the essence of being itself. From the cavernous folds of his armored flesh writhe tendrils that whisper the names of those he's claimed, each one a prisoner bound to him through soul-forged chains.

His presence bends reality; shadows flee, and flame turns cold. In Xar'Kul’s gaze lies a truth older than gods — that death is not the end, only a beginning… in service to him.

A Dinkie Fantasy/Horror

"Some say you only live once. He knows better."

Born of fog and forgotten pacts, The Grim Meower walks the gravepaths between worlds. Cloaked in shadows, this silent feline reaper appears only when the last candle flickers, when the final dream ends… and when your ninth life quietly runs out.

His glowing eyes burn with the light of every soul he’s ferried beyond the veil. His cloak whispers secrets with every step. And the scythe he carries — forged from bonewood and etched with ancient runes — isn’t just ceremonial. It chooses when it’s time.

But don’t be afraid.

His purr is soothing.

His paws are soft.

And his lantern still burns…

But not for long.

Bathed in the burning hues of a dying sky, the Twilight Conqueror stands at the edge of dominion—a towering infernal warlord crowned in horned obsidian and woven shadows. His blackened armor pulses with arcane energy, violet veins glowing like the breath of a dying star. A radiant crystal embedded in his chest burns with forbidden power, while a crown of skulls and barbed steel marks his throne of terror. Wings like torn midnight drape behind him, casting ruin across the land. From the spires of his citadel in the distance to the fury in his eyes, he is the last echo of dusk before eternal night.

In the sacred gloom of a towering, violet-lit cathedral, two figures of immense power stand poised in silence.

Amon the Purple — vast, muscled, and runed with glowing sigils — looms like a god of forgotten realms. His eyes, twin flames of violet judgment, meet those of the Scarlet Herald, a red-skinned demoness whose baroque black armor is both elegant and lethal.

Between them, she offers a ceremonial chalice — not with fear, but with purpose. The blood within shimmers faintly, an offering, a seal, or perhaps the first drop in a pact soon to be forged. The air thrums with ritual tension; light spills through shattered glass above, casting divine contrast against infernal form.

This is no romance. No battle. This is the prelude to awakening.

The old gods may sleep, but Amon and his herald are stirring.

She is no longer what she was. The rites of ascension demanded sacrifice — of flesh, of time, of soul. Now she exists between dimensions, half-dwelling in the physical realm, half-draped in the folds of the Veil — the living quantum skin that binds realities.

The Veil-Spliced Empress is not merely ruler of her people — she is the anchor that holds their fractured realm from slipping into the abyss. Her form, sculpted by biomechanical sorcery and temporal grafting, moves with divine precision. Her armor is engraved with sequences harvested from collapsing timelines, and her gaze burns with the orange flame of stars that never rose.

The red mantle she wears is not fabric — it is a fragment of the Veil itself, alive, whispering across her shoulders like a tide of memory and silence. Her voice is felt more than heard, resonating like distant thunder behind closed eyes.

To speak her name is a vow. To look into her eyes is to glimpse the recursion of fate. She has no equal, only echoes.

Crownwraiths are ghostly remnants of monarchs who refused to release power — not out of ambition, but from a duty warped by obsession. They are bound to their regalia: spectral crowns, scepters, robes that drift like smoke embroidered with memorylight. They do not remember their names, only the weight of the throne.

Appearance:

Regal silhouettes cloaked in tattered ghost-robes woven from faded oaths.

Faces obscured behind radiant masks or shattered coronets.

Eyes blaze with vowfire — a pale, unwavering flame of remembered rule.

Regalia drifts independently of their form, orbiting like loyal ghosts.

Behavior:

Patrol fallen ceremonial grounds, especially near collapsed thrones or crown altars.

Will not speak unless addressed with a title they once bore.

Offer trials of succession — not for conquest, but to test worth.

Can bless or curse depending on whether one kneels or refuses.

Abilities:

Vowfire Halo: Projects burning memorylight to purge disloyalty.

Sovereign’s Gaze: Freezes movement with the weight of ancient command.

Regalia Requiem: Summons spectral objects (crown, blade, scroll) to reenact moments of lost rule.

Unyielding Mandate: Can possess empty thrones or those who falsely claim rulership.

Symbolism:

They represent the echoes of leadership — both burden and pride — that refuse to fade. Their tragedy is not in their power, but in their inability to rest.

Encounter Hooks:

Trial of the Last Crown: To pass, one must speak a forgotten vow aloud and willingly renounce it.

The Throne’s Hunger: A Crownwraith bound to a throne that feeds on false devotion.

The Broken Coronation: Interrupted rituals where the Crownwraith still waits for a kingdom that never came.

Anchor Quote:

“Some kings die. Others are never told they may rest.”

There were no stars here — only thoughts pretending to be them.

The Echozone was not a place.

It was a recording.

A scar of what the universe used to be — and a whisper of what it could become again.

Islands of broken gravity floated like memories refusing to be forgotten.

A tree wept metal. A machine grew moss. A god’s hand reached up from a sea of sky.

Kaelis moved slowly, each step watched by the Zone itself.

And the egg in his hand pulsed not with warning…

But with recognition.

Santa Monica Pier

November 15th, 2012

Santa Monica, CA

Finalized in December of 2012, the City of Santa Monica funded the LEDs project with a $668,000 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) award from the US Department of Energy. For the project, LEDtronics provided:

-LED Light Bulbs, S14 Style for the Looff Hippodrome.

-LED Post Top Lights in a pendant style with mogul-base fixtures for the outdoor, rest area.

-LED Post Top Pendant Lights for the Santa Monica Pier Boardwalk.

-LED A19-Style Bulbs were used in the hard-to-reach, beacon light fixtures around the Pier's perimeter.

"The old, fluorescent lights on the Pier burned out, left gaps in the lighting and were in a difficult area to maintain," states Matt Henigan, City of Santa Monica, Office of Sustainability and the Environment, Energy Efficiency Engineer. "With the new LED lamps in place, maintenance is minimal, and we have already reduced energy consumption by over 30%. And because the LED lighting is directional, it improves safety and enhances the Pier's appearance without causing light pollution for local residents."

Seated upon a throne hewn from black stone and the bones of vanquished kings, the alien queen rules in absolute silence. Her armor, alive with intricate filigree and jagged edges, mirrors the twisted architecture of her hall. Crimson embers glow from her eyes and crown, casting threads of bloodlight across the mist that swirls at her feet. Every shadow bends to her will, and every soul trembles beneath her unblinking gaze.

So here's my finalized GLaDOS... sort of. The base for now is just a placeholder until I can make a mor aesthetically pleasing one. Overall, I'm half pleased with the result. There were a few details that I hat to leave out, and I also had to scrap my original idea of having it support itself, but when it became to cluttered, I opted for it hanging by a string instead. The cables were especially hard to get right, and they are even harder to keep in the positions that they're in. But still, I am glad for the opportunity to finally have used that curved/segmented technique which can be seen on the large white plates of armor attached to her back.

In the heart of the forsaken realm lies Gravehollow, a necropolis suspended between mortality and cosmic ruin. Once divine, now defiled, its sky churns with a corrupted nebula — a spiral of ancient starlight twisted by forgotten sorcery. Towering citadels of blackened stone pierce the heavens, their gothic spires echoing with lost chants and spectral winds. At its center floats the Sepulcher Ascendant — a dread palace held aloft by dark magic and soul-bound wards, the throne of Obserina Hexveil, the Veilborn Necromantress. Below, broken monuments and bone-strewn altars whisper forgotten names into the green fog. Lightning streaks silently above like veins of a dying god, as the land breathes with memory, magic, and mourning. This is not ruin — it is reverent decay, the sacred seat of eternal death.

"He walks. Time stops. Names unravel."

A towering relic of rusted reverence, The Null Toll wanders the silent expanse known as The Null Reliquary — a sacred ruin where tombs record names that have yet to be lived, and the air hangs thick with erased intentions. His body is constructed from sanctified exo-plating and funeral-threaded cabling, woven with frayed mnemonic cords and scorched circuit-script.

Where a face should be, there is only a smooth, blank surface—featureless and cold—resonating with the weight of silence. His presence disrupts causality; memory softens in his shadow. Around him, time slows into stillness, and those who linger begin to forget not only why they came, but who they were before they arrived.

As he moves, name-glyphs flicker and dissolve—spectral fragments of identity unraveling into digital ash. Clocks cease their measure. Codexes become blank. Pilgrims fall to their knees in confusion, unable to speak the names they once held dear.

To some, he is a guardian. To others, a curse. But all know his name: The Null Toll, the unvoice of memory.

Aurexia Ny’rhal is no mortal being. She is a living interface between consciousness and cosmos, a divine construct born from starlight, logic, and memory. Forged in the core of a collapsed nebula and awakened by a dying civilization, she carries within her the encrypted map of time itself.

Her eyes shimmer with fractals of exploded galaxies, pulsing with information that transcends space. Her skin is stardust-bound in form — adorned with living nanolight patterns that flicker like constellations and move like breath. The cybernetic headpiece fused into her crown is more than armor — it's a consciousness expansion array, allowing her to translate cosmic radiation into visions and voice.

Behind her glows the memory of creation — nebulae swirl, planets orbit in silence, and forgotten gods whisper through the folds of space. Aurexia listens… and decides what survives.

She does not speak often.

When she does, empires fall… or are born.

"She is not part of the forest. She is the will that shaped it."

Deep within the breathing shadows of the world’s last untouched jungle stands Zarynth Vel'Quora, the Verdant Sovereign — a being older than kings and stronger than storms. Her skin, the color of sacred leaves and ancient stone, glows where the earth remembers. Her eyes, burning green fire, are said to have seen the birth of the Grove Flame — the source of all living energy.

Her crown is not a thing worn, but grown from her own soul, crafted from living obsidian, vines, and heartwood crystal. It pulses with the rhythm of the deep roots. Adorned in a woven mantle of forest dusk and adorned with living gems, she speaks in silence and commands through presence alone.

Legends say her voice can bend tree trunks, wilt steel, or call the breath back into dying land. Others believe her to be the forest’s vengeance in flesh — a goddess of balance and wrath.

Those who dare trespass into her realm do not find death.

They find judgment — old as stone, swift as a falling leaf.

In the heart of an ancient, mist-shrouded forest stands a mysterious and regal figure. Her eyes glow with a supernatural green energy — piercing, like emeralds holding centuries of secrets. She wears a hand-forged gothic black armor, richly adorned with esoteric symbols, golden accents, and living vines. Long strands of platinum-blonde hair cascade over her shoulders, partially covered in ivy and moss, as if nature itself were her ally.

Her crown, tall and intricate like the spires of a cursed kingdom, is adorned with a large green gemstone — the presumed source of her power. Her claw-like gloves resemble living roots more than metal — she is no ordinary ruler, but an ancient guardian of the wild. Everything about her radiates power, mysticism, and dangerous beauty.

“It is not a vessel. It is the wound she drags across the stars.”

Forged from the fractured remains of collapsed timelines, Nyrrh-Zhaloth drifts like a bleeding scar through the void. Its colossal hull is clad in jagged obsidian armor, spined with gothic towers and psionic antennae that sing in dead frequencies. Glowing with violet and blue warlight, the ship pulses like a neural engine — alive, aware, and vengeful.

Its forward arrays can erase fleets from causality, not merely destroy them. The sides bristle with biomechanical weaponry and hull-born organisms bred for war. At its core, an entropy reactor powers the ship through time-space ruptures, allowing it to blink across stellar systems without leaving a trace — only ruin.

It is not escorted. It escorts war itself.

A skeletal, monstrous creature the size of a kobold crouches low in a ruined dungeon of black stone and scattered bones. Its bones are gnarled and wet with rot, its claws like razors scraping the cracked floor. Glowing, molten-orange eyes burn from deep sockets, locking onto its prey with terrifying focus. From twisted, branch-like horns atop its head, twin streams of magical lightning surge upward — one crackling blue, the other molten gold — illuminating the cavern in violent flashes of arcane energy.

Its jaw gapes, revealing a row of massive, yellowed fangs glistening with magical saliva. Sparks dance across its skeletal ribcage and shoulders, each pulse igniting ancient runes carved into its skin. The Scrawl trembles, not with fear, but with thrumming, unstable power — the very dungeon stones quiver beneath it. In the air around it, faint voices echo

Wanted to finish the top contours before gluing in the neck.

...requesting a certified copy of the dissolution so I can finalize my name change. (The ex's lawyer never sent me the copy I suspect I should have gotten when the divorce was final, so now I have to pay for one so I can change my name on my driver license and passport.) (In fact, I didn't even know I was officially divorced until I looked it up online the other day!)

Yeah, you're right: my handwriting really does suck. *hehe*

"She does not command dragons. She is what dragons aspire to be."

Clad in molten emerald and hammered gold, Vaelmyra Sythrel rules from the throne of Obsidian Flame, where lesser queens kneel and fire dares not flicker without her will. Her skin is scale and starlight — patterned with ancient draconic script that glows with volcanic pulse. Her horns rise like thrones themselves, crowned in battle-forged elegance.

She is the Scaled Sovereign — the embodiment of dragonkind’s authority given humanoid grace. Where she walks, ashes remember. Where she gazes, hearts falter. Her armor is alive with enchantments and heat, layered with ceremonial plates etched in wyrmsteel and trimmed in molten inlays. Each gesture is a decree; each breath, a judgment.

The world once feared dragons.

Now it worships one.

As visitors emerge from the garden passageway and enter the second-term room, they will see an alcove set into the granite wall. This recessed niche implies an indoor setting. It is human-scale and private and appears to give passers-by a glimpse into someone’s home. In this room sits a sculpture by George Segal of an average-looking man entranced by the voice coming from his Philco radio. He is listening with intense concentration and hope to the words of his president. Sculptor Segal decided it was more personal to show a man listening to the radio speech then sculpting President. Roosevelt delivering one of the “Fireside Chats”.

It was through these “Fireside Chats” that FDR spoke with the American people. Hearing his voice over the radio in their living rooms, they felt as if he was visiting with them personally.

Steven Schoenherr describe the importance of FDR’s ability to communicate in his lecture FDR and the Media, which he delivered to the Smithsonian Institution in 1977:

“‘Fireside Chats’ were given their name by the press. Radio speeches given by FDR which were to be intimate talks with the American people to explain issues and their government were given this name. They were informal evening broadcasts to the whole American public. There were never formal announcements. FDR saw them as a way to educate the public and he loved to be the teacher. FDR often used analogy in fireside chats to make complex points or controversial points appear simple. FDR used the address ‘My friends’ to open the Fireside Chats and immediately bounds the friendship of his radio audiences. No president had ever addressed the public with this phrase.”

“I try always to remember that their deepest problems are human. I constantly talk with those who come to tell me their own points of view; with those who represent the farmer and the worker; and often with average citizens without high positions who come to this house. And constantly I seek to look beyond the doors of the White House, beyond the officialdom of the national capital, into the hopes and fears of men and women in their homes. I have traveled the country over many times. My friends, my enemies, my daily mail, bring to me reports of what you are thinking and hoping. I want to be sure that neither battles nor burdens of office shall ever blind me to an intimate knowledge of the way the American people want to live and the simple purposes for which they put me here.”

—Fireside Chat on Economic Conditions, April 14, 1938

The central focus of FDR’s second term was developing and executing the New Deal to bring the country out of economic turmoil. In this room, there are three scenes depicting the state of American citizens in the United States during the Great Depression.

The sculpture to the right depicts a man listening to one of Roosevelt’s fireside chats. FDR gave thirty public addresses over radio between 1933 and 1944, communicating directly with the American public for the first time in Presidential history. Over the radio, FDR spoke simply and clearly, addressing national issues with straightforward language and direct explanations. These broadcasts allowed FDR to intimately connect with Americans in their homes—he earned the trust of the Nation and reassured the country during times of economic upheaval and world war. This tradition is carried on to this day through the President’s weekly address, usually posted online and broadcast on the radio.

George Segal

George Segal was born in the Bronx, New York City, in 1924. His parents had immigrated from eastern Europe. George exhibited an interest in art early and won honors for his work while still in high school. George was raised in New Jersey, where his family settled, and he helped his parents with their chicken-raising business throughout his teens. Later, he took over the farm and still lives there with his wife Helen. Today, the old chicken coops house his art studio.

Everyday life and everyday happenings form the basis of George Segal’s sculptures. His pieces are cast directly from live models, mostly friends and relatives. George’s method of sculpting is unique. It depends heavily on real-life events and people said within environments which he constructs from real elements and furnishings. Segal’s work is therefore figurative but it does not romanticize or idealize the people whom he casts.

As the critic Phyllis Tuckman explains in the book, George Segal: Recent Painted Sculpture, “Segal’s figures radiate an aura of the familiar. They look like the kind of people with whom you come in daily contact…. These slices of life’s scenarios belie or masked other aspects of this haunting art.” Segal’s environments express more than what is visible on the surface. They dig deeply and say much about the universal elements of life through their focus on simple tasks.

It was for these reasons that George Segal was chosen to work within the themes of the Memorial. George has strong feelings and deep empathy for the Roosevelt era. He quickly selected three everyday images that were descriptive of the essence of the Depression years in our country, which had such a deep influence on the character and quality of our culture. Within these depictions the message is one of inherent individual dignity in the face of overwhelming odds.

George Segal developed his very personal casting technique in the early 1960s. He starts by dipping cloth bandages in wet plaster and then applying them directly to a body or to an object. He spends time working with his models before casting, describing the gestures he is trying to achieve and choreographing the positioning of their bodies in space within the constructed environment. Artist and model work together to finalize the pose before wrapping begins. Once the format has been fixed, the bandages are fitted around the various parts of the body. Hardening takes only minutes and then the bandages are removed by splitting them into sections. Later, they are reassembled to form the final figures or, as was the case for figures in the Memorial, they become molds for the final bronze sculptures.

In the heart of the accursed woods, she emerges — face veiled in shadow, eyes glowing with ancient fury. The air crackles with arcane energy as her blade hums with violet lightning, forged from a forgotten darkness.

You are not her enemy.

Not yet.

"To speak their name is to undo their absence. But by then, it may already be too late."

Essence

The Veilhusk are the hollow remains of those who have been forgotten by both others and themselves. They do not die. They unravel. With no names, no memories, and no tether to identity, they drift through the Hollow Veil like unfinished thoughts. Their presence is mournful, yet eerily passive — a quiet warning of what forgetting truly becomes.

Appearance

Empty silhouettes, translucent and wavering, like heat ripples in cold mist.

Their forms vaguely resemble who they once were, but distorted — faces half-formed, clothes frozen mid-motion.

Where their hearts should be: a soft, flickering light that dims with proximity to recognition.

Trails of silence follow them; their footfalls leave no mark, their presence erases sound.

Behavior

They do not seek attention. In fact, they retreat from recognition.

If you begin to remember one — even vaguely — they shimmer, destabilize, and vanish.

Some hover near memory-rich sites, drawn instinctively to echoes of what they might have been.

They never speak, but sometimes gesture — as if grasping at thoughts that no longer exist.

Abilities

Unpresence: Veilhusk cannot be perceived directly unless you forget something else in exchange.

Nulltrail: Their passage scrubs minor memories — a name, a word, a face — from nearby minds.

Name Collapse: If their true name is spoken aloud, they disappear instantly — and a fragment of the speaker’s identity vanishes with them.

Symbolism

Veilhusk are the embodiment of passive forgetting.

They do not punish — they remind.

To remember them is to risk erasing part of yourself in return.
