PLACES: NYC, USA

While shooting with my Canon DSLR, I discovered its amazing video capability. Hypothetically, if I shoot at 24 frames per second, that means that I can have thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of frames as material for still images from just a few minutes of video, after the visual effects are in place. This body of work is about the places that I visit in NYC, with my camera for photo opportunities.

"The essence of cinema is editing. It's the combination of what can be extraordinary images of people during emotional moments, or images in a general sense, put together in a kind of alchemy."

- Francis Ford Coppola

This is what my life will consist of for the next few weeks. I have lots of work coming up in film class (editing the rest of my 7 minute film and going through my production portfolio).

I really do enjoy editing films, especially color correction.

Two weeks. TWO weeks! Wow... I have been so... away!

This photo was taken a few days ago... when I was finally seeing the end of the project that has consumed the majority of my waking hours over these last couple of weeks. It's not like it's some great shot... it's my excuse for not being here! =)

I created a DVD project that involved working extensively in Photoshop and Motion (Apple's fantastic motion graphics software) with a stop or two in Soundtrack Pro and iMovie along the way... all ending up in Final Cut and iDVD Pro. Whew!

Thing is... I truly know enough about all this cool software to be dangerous... you know... to really get myself into trouble! So in many cases... I figure it out as I go along... which is both good and not so good. Thankfully... I had the top notch expertise of someone 'in the business' (and you know who you are, Philip Wallis... thank you!) to wrap up all my pixels in motion... and to make sure I had a master disk for duplication that worked as it should! The technical proficiency side of all this fun... well... it's not my strong point.

A LOT of work. Made into even more work by not fully knowing my way around all the software (yet). But in the end... I am satisfied. And that works!

Oh... and I'm glad to be back! =)

i have been editing the music video for snake and jet... taken several days for what will be a video that is just over two minutes... labour intensive and time consuming but it's almost done... a fair amount of jerry-rigged animation, jump cuts and lots of layering... amateur stuff, really.

the entire video was shot on a pocket sized canon ixus digital camera.

the number is called favorite and it will be released on december 21, 2006.

i have to get out of this chair now, and do something else... pack the apartment, for example, and head over to amager to start painting the other apartment...

.... so much easier thanks to my new Keyboard overlay

We did the editing for a semester work during two summer nights on my PowerBook G4. It was so damn hot these days that I've put a towel to protect the notebook from my sweat...

This was my first time ever doing a stop motion video. For some reason the quality isn't as sharp as i would like but now I know how to do things differently.

Episode 4 for Pedal involves a lot, a lot of old footage from "back in the day"... it's proving to be quite tedious... :P
