ENGLISH:
The 2017 annual theme chosen by the La Unión Church in Mar del Plata, Argentina was “Reconciliation: with God, each other, oneself and Creation”. On 28 October, they joined efforts with Christian Surfers Argentina and the Christian group Kairos to collect litter from the La Perla beach. For two hours, 35 people aged 6 to 70 collected 32 bags of litter, plus three containers filled with sharp objects; part of these were sent for recycling.
Jon Terry, pastor of La Unión says, ‘We were greatly motivated by discovering together as a church that God calls us into reconciliation with him, with everybody else, with oneself – but also with the whole of Creation. Like Christian Surfers and our friends at Kairos, we think that cleaning up a beach is an important part of this reconciliation; and besides it is also a way of loving our neighbour, with whom we share the beauty of the sand and sea of our city. The experience was even better than we thought! It was such a great joy to see how everybody got together in the same effort, sentiment and passion. The beachgoers that were enjoying their day there cheered us on and thanked us, and even cleaned up a bit. I think it helped them take conscience of the need to care for and heal the beach we all share. We were even surprised by being filmed for the city’s TV news! Well, we’re just getting started, there’s much more to do but we’re excited and thankful to the Lord for this opportunity.’

This is where we filled our tanks after our first dives that day. It's a place called "Jerry's Dock" and it's up river in Milwaukee. Check out the air compressor in the little trailer. At this point, it was over 100 degrees and those tanks got hot when were filled up.

Here is under the bridge plate after I drilled out for the new bridge. I also decided to make this a string-thru, so that is what the 6 smaller holes are for.
Here are the holes being filled. I sanded them down a bit, and they turned out pretty good

One of the greatest lessons I learned early as a photographer was from photographer Ray Pfortner. He is an absolute stickler for clean backgrounds and edges and I picked up his habits. I hate little bits of buildings and cars and people sticking into my frame. Nothing is more distracting. Instead of looking at the subject, I'm distracted by the people or objects in the background, since I can never quite tell what they are or what they're doing in the frame. No professional photographer consistently uses busy backgrounds or edges as an effective tool. It only draws attention away from the subject. To combat this, fill the frame and take pictures in empty, controlled environments. Henry Cartier-Bresson did a fantastic job of finding simple and striking compositions with clean backgrounds that elevate the subject instead of distract. Even in cities! Additionally, Edward Weston's work almost unanimously fills the frame with the subject.
